When you hover over a scroll bar after two finger scrolling (When set to show scroll bar only when scrolling) it enlarges to make it easier to click and drag to scroll. In Lion it stayed the same size when you clicked it as it was when two finger scrolling. Neat feature, I always found it difficult in Lion of click and drag the scrollbar to scroll through long pages

Actually it probably has considering his join date. The "Reopen windows when logging back in" checkbox was fixed in 10.7.4 so if he purchased a mac in the last few months he's correct.

Considering 10.7.4 came out in May, and he quoted a post I made in February...I'm gonna say I'm still in the right.

It would be nice to see if MacRumors would do something like this for Quote and PM notifications.

That would be pretty kick ass.

I know this has probably been asked before and I'm sorry but where are my RSS feeds? I know they were removed from mail but did I lose them all totally?

IMO airplay is a MAJOR failure. I was trying to watch MLB from my imac into my apple 3. Herky jerky. Air parrot works a lot better. Second, if you try to let your screen go to sleep, the video stops.

Earlier I commented on how right clicking on a file an choosing "new e-mail with attachment" didn't open a new e-mail, only the mail app.

Now, that option is completely gone from the right click menu. Could anyone verify whether it's just me, or if they've actually removed the option?

---

Ah, forget about it. They just moved it from the bottom to the sub menu "share"...

Option-click the Notification Centre icon in the top-right of the screen, and it greys it out - I assume this turns it off.

Doing it again turns it back to normal, and on again :)

EDIT - Confirmed, this is a shortcut to quickly deactivate NC.

it only deactivates it for 24 hours. It's effectively just like opening NC and flicking the "Show banners & alerts" switch to off.

Thanks for clarifying :) The switch does in fact go to the 'Off' position after doing this shortcut.

Yeah, but I only want turn off the icon in menu bar, not full notification app.

I can use macbartender but I don't want to use 3rd party apps for that.

Why would there be no underlying desktop? While you can have lots of desktops, their icon contents will be the same on each one. It would make complete sense for me to want to drag an image from Safari in full screen onto the desktop, but it's impossible because you can't show the desktop while in full screen.

The problems with full screen in Lion are:

  • Can't show desktop
  • Can't show dock with Wacom Tablet (because of absolute positionning)
  • Quitting and reopening an app will always bring it out of full screen mode
  • Full screen apps create more desktops, so if you already have loads, swiping from desktop 1 to desktop 5 is a huge pain with 3 full screen apps and 5 desktops in between
  • Slow animation that brings the app in and out of full screen
  • Activating Mission Control while in a full screen app will show Desktop 1 - why? I completely lose track of where the hell I am
  • Putting something in full screen places it on the far right if you don't check "Automatically Rearrange Desktops"

… so I never use Full Screen, I really hope ML addresses most of these...

It's not impossible to drag an image from Safari in fullscreen mode to the desktop, all you do is drag the image to the side of the screen and you jump to the next space or desktop. As my Safari window is usually in the first space it is really quick to get back to the desktop. If you want a clutter free Desktop to drag stuff too just use one of the blank spaces.

If I need to use an app with the desktop or multiple windows I usual turn off fullscreen mode and return to a window environment.

Full Screen mode is just a handy way to move apps out of your desktop windowed environment, the perfect example is Skype as it is always on but I don't need to see it unless I'm using it, also the fat interface is no longer an issue as i always put it in a space.

I agree that it would be nice to load apps always fullscreen and even set what space they are in, maybe next time we will see that update?

1. Have the incoming and outgoing mail sounds been removed? Just sent an email and didn't notice it 'swoosh', also didn't get a ping when I received an email, just a notification. Sounds are set to on within the Mail preferences.

2. Is there a trackpad gesture to open notifications from anywhere on your screen? I know you can three-finger swipe down when hovering over the icon, but you may as well just click it (easier/quicker too) if you're up there anyway.

2 and 3, you can't do. That's how it is for both of them.

As for 1, I don't know - but I daresay it's stuck there too just like most other system icons. I'd love for it to be removable too, since the trackpad makes it much quicker to access anyway.

That and I'm used to having spotlight I. The far right of the menubar

Man I hate that Notification icon in the right corner!
I always blindly pressed the spotlight shortcut for search. Grrr. :)

Also trackpad is lagging like hell!
A lot of people have that problem.

Been using it for a day so far, without any problems..

Running ALOT better than Lion's .0 release.

New feature i spotted (i think), is that quicklook now shows size of folders. Really good, when you are cleaning stuff op.. the CMD+I became tiresome.
