I hate the full screen thing, how it makes the second monitor almost obsolete unless the app you're using has other windows. When it said 'go full screen on any display' I though that fixed it... Turns out it just makes the first monitor useless!!

Love dictation though... :D

if I install mountain lion would it erase my files? like would it format the computer?

I really don't want to do a back up and I was wondering if installing the new OS would erase my files or not.

thanks

Do the upgrade and not fresh install and your files should be fine. Always have a back up though.

Mission Control & Multiple Monitors

Question for you folks w/ ML (still waiting for my up-to-date redemption code. grrr) and more than one physical monitor:

When in Mission Control, can you now drag a window (or window group) from one physical display to another? Or can you still only drag them between spaces on the same physical display?

When swiping for Notification Center, the wallpaper extends in the menubar. You can see this best with bright wallpapers.

You can no longer display how much time is left on a charge.

I've been wondering how the two finger left swipe will work for Notification Center while Safari is in the foreground. Right now the two finger swipe is to go forward a page.

It works fine because the gesture is that you have to swipe left from the edge of the right side of the trackpad, so, basically, I start the gesture while my fingertips are still on the aluminum casing and then swipe left until the notification center appears. By the way I used the new feature, dictation, to type this post with only a few typos. Pretty cool. :)

when downloading an app or update, the progress is shown in the dock and launchpad, a nice feature that I was ironically hoping for this morning before updating

Not sure if anyone else has noticed this but

1. Software update is now integrated with the App store.
2. It no longer tells you how big the update is. (which is annoying for me because I usually use the size to determine when to download an update)

That's been there since Lion, at least for me.

Safari - Notifications?

Can someone help me with understanding how this will work?

Which websites has been established to work with this? (if any)

and what exactly does this mean?

I have downloaded ML but it is still "sitting" in the application folder waiting for tonight... One question though about installation process... is there an option to upgrade from 10.7 or a clean installation over Lion is the only way possible?

I'm shivering to the thought of having to reinstall ALL my applications, and passwords, and preferences ...

Just install it. It took about 45 minutes for me on my MBP. All settings, files, passwords and even the desktop picture stayed the same. Good luck! :D

A small annoyance, on a laptop, you can no longer set the battery status icon in the top bar to show the estimated time remaining, only the percentage. You must click the icon to see time remaining. This was always my favorite display option but it seems to be missing from ML.

They've also switched which side the percentage appears.

This is for the website enhancements, soon they'll be able to create websites that also sends out notifications and location information provided your safari app is open

Something like twitter or facebook website..or many be going forward company websites, etc

It would be nice to see if MacRumors would do something like this for Quote and PM notifications.
