My favorite "little" things:

1. Holding down Option in the File menu turns Duplicate into Save As.
2. Resume is disabled by default.
3. Option to ungroup application windows when in Mission Control.
4. Animations and overall feel are MUCH smoother than OS X Lion.
5. Apple has made it harder to remove items from the Dock accidentally.

About this whole debate on whether Finder is needed and the file system in general.

What people seem to be forgetting (or not knowing) is that all computers file systems are essential, they are at the core of how they work. Mac OS X is UNIX and as such it is the mother of all file systems, EVERYTHING is a file.

Granted, to some users (but I would NOT say most) the Finder may indeed not be used ..often, but for many it is an essential tool, despite the fact that it's no where near a decent file manager.

I feel that for Apple to make OS X more like iOS and 'hide' the file system from the user all-together would be a mistake; the OS X is intended for computers, not mobile devices, and managing files is part of most computer users do (and similarly is not such an issue for mobile platforms).

I myself would much rather have access to my files (through Finder) rather than have to get to them through an app.

I understand the two sides of this debate have very strong feelings on the matter, I just wish to explain that there ARE those that use Finder and it's pretty ridiculous to think that Apple would do away with it.

A minor note (or maybe a major one): when you have no apps open, when it's just your desktop there, you are in fact in Finder. In essence: the Mac OS X GUI is Finder (on top of the UNIX OS)--which is why Finder's menu is the one present with no app selected.

Steve Jobs was right about the file system in some respects. It makes sense that you open Mail to read email, you open iPhoto to browse photos, or iTunes for music.

But for Documents, the distinction isn't always that clear. Did I write that letter in TextEdit or Pages? Was that slideshow a Keynote document or a PDF? Or, perhaps I want to manage my documents by project instead of file type - or what usually happens is I want to seamlessly browse documents of different file types (pdfs, keynotes, pages, even pictures) related to a single project, all in one place, without having to toggle between apps.

Small one:
App Store finally has fullscreen mode. Was surprised that that wasn't incorporated into the release of Lion, to be perfectly honest. Would be nice to see it in a few others for consistency's sake- for example, in System Preferences.

It also now supports two-finger swipe left or right for browsing the history of the App Store:)

When you rollover on scrollbars they appear bigger, this is system wide!

In Mail when you click the top bar of the mail column it scrolls to top!

Safari has a completely redesigned web inspector. Along with dimensions for divs and etc.

Date & Time Preferences has a redesigned calendar

When you download from safari the icon now flies to the download folder and with a progress bar and both on the main folder and on the icon while you can cancel the download right from the files icon with the X mark!

Trash got a redesigned icon.

The running apps light indicator is now positioned at the front edge of the dock.

Selecting a file and choosing "new e-mail with attachment" only opens the mail app if closed, and doesn't do anything if it's open. No new mail created... Is it only me?

no linen in safari 6!

anyone notice reading list no longer has a linen background?! it's been replaced with a very subtle leather texture. so happy (I'm using safari 6 on lion atm).

Clicking on the apple then software update opens the whole app store instead of just searching for updates.

It's a small thing but I prefer the battery life percentage to be on the right side of the battery symbol (also in parenthesis) rather than on the left like it is on ML :(

I'm on Lion still and upgraded to Safari 6. Anyone know if tab expose is ML specific? Or do I have to activate it somehow?

Option clicking the notification icon (next to the spotlight one), disables notifications for a day (it will show a greyed out notification icon).

I think they slightly re-arranged the printing options in preview.

Unfortunately, there are still no options to print specific pages (with comma seperation).

I have a pre-unibody MBP with 4 GB RAM, 2.5 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo. Running on 10.7.4 (Lion) right now. I'm a little concerned this baby won't be able to handle Mountain Lion. Any thoughts?

Isn't that the idea behind "Documents in the Cloud"? Every app that implements it will show all your documents right in the app. I'm not saying it's perfect, I just think that's Apple's thinking/idea.

Early "08" 20-inch iMac, 2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo maxed at 4GB RAM and running 10.7.4 with same question,.....

When I switched over to Lion I noticed it took half my memory (2GB) just to run without any apps launched.

Guys this is all the little things in Mountain Lion, not "will Mountain Lion run fine for my mac" thread. I'm running ML on my early 2008 macbook pro with 4GB ram just fine, better than Lion in fact.

Now to go back to the topic, in Mail, when you are scrolling the message list, you can go back to the top of the list instantly by double clicking the "sort by" bar. It's similar to how Safari in iOS scrolls to the top when you tap the menu bar.

Late '08 MBP (check my sig if you want more deets), I'm updating right now. I'll let you guys know how it goes. I've got more RAM than you, but I'll check if that 2GB worth of RAM problem is something my MBP experiences too.

probably been mentioned already but the change at the bottom of the dock to show with apps are in use!

Did I miss the fact that the resolution can't be pushed to the max for retina displays in ML?

I can still do it with the 3rd party tools of course...

Just wondering.

Anyone tried to install and run vmware fusion 4 or parallels 7 on a mouton lion clean install?

Vmware doesn't run and parallels fail to open my xp virtual machine!

I use Virtual Box from Oracle - it's Free, just as good (if not better than the paid for offerings) and the latest version works under Mountain Lion too.

I noticed that when you open notification center while on the desktop, the wallpaper image sitting behind the menu bar (when the menu bar is transparent) get's stretched out to preserve the look of the transparent menu bar. I only noticed this because with the default ML wallpaper, a few stars get stretched out and its easy to see (I was actually trying to figure out what it was for a while), whereas other wallpapers, I wouldn't have noticed.
