I get that there are people that haven't ever pirated anything in their lives. They do exist, without a doubt. They generally fall into 1 of 2 categories:

1) Don't know how to pirate anything, at least not safely (worried about trojans, worms, etc.). I understand these people. I'm related to several of them, and I regularly fix their PCs with a re-install of Windows XP Lite or Windows 7-Lite, written by hacker/pirates and available on your favorite torrent site.

2) Taking an actual moral stance against pirating anything, anywhere, anytime, for any reason.

The people in category (2) I don't really understand. It seems almost like following a religion - they do it without really understanding why they're doing it or the deeper implications behind their stance. After all, the companies that they so eagerly defend in their stance don't follow anywhere near the same moral code as they do. They've essentially allowed those music/movie/software companies to dictate to them what their moral code SHOULD be when it coming to sharing 0's and 1's, rather than what would actually make sense.

Hey I'm just waiting for your Bible to be released on iBooks. Make sure you post about it here. On second thought, don't bother. I'll just download it from a torrent site. ;)

The battery time remaining option is gone, you can have icon and percent remaining but not the time. You can click on the battery to see the estimated time remaining. I know I for one will miss this option.

Great :( I much prefer having the 'time left' option to any of the others. Have you tried Option-clicking the battery?

yes that only adds the battery condition. You can still see the time remaining you just have to click the battery. I am not a fan of the change either.

Also a nice solution. Thanks.

You can also place your Library folder as a shortcut in your Finder sidebar.

I noticed since DP4, even if the folder is unhidden, you cannot double click the folder to open it. You have to right click, then select "Open".

----------

The way fullscreen works with spaces would make that confusing as hell. Apple seems to think of fullscreen as a form of presentation rather than a way of working.

Hmmm, interesting point. Personally I dislike the iOS "Spaces" and have been using "TotalSpaces" which brought back full 10.5/6 grid "Spaces" to Lion and Mountain Lion. It's free now, bought out from the developer (who still works hard on it, even though it's 100% perfect) by BinaryAge, the makers of "TotalFinder". Highly recommend it.

I truly don't use Fullscreen for a lot of reasons, but I see its benefit with one display systems such as notebooks and iMac's. On two displays, it negates too much desktop screen real estate.

Works perfectly over here.

Really? Double clicking the icon in your home folder opens it without needing to right click and select "Open"?

Hmmmm, wonder what is going on. I've noticed this for a few hidden folders that are now displayed through Terminal's defaults write command.

How the heck? :( On my 2011 MBA it was always lightning fast. I've never experienced any kind of lag (save for Safari's top pages screen :()... Now I'm pretty sure that Lion really needs SSD to perform perfectly... and a clean install!

Maybe Mountain Lion will be better optimized to work correctly on hard drives as well.

I actually bought an SSD because of my frustrations with Lion. I'm waiting for ML so I can do a clean install and keep my HDD in the optibay.

Works fine here too.

Where are you getting those prices from? A full licence of Windows7 Home Premium is available online for about £55 (roughly 85 american dollars)

You can go from XP to that (or even earlier theoretically)

From microsoft's website: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows/shop

That's the price for Windows 7 Ultimate, and that's what you need to pay if you're upgrading from Vista. Sure, you can update from XP as well, but the only option if you want to upgrade from vista is this.

I'm comparing with Ultimate, because that's the full product without cutting any features out. OS X only has a "ultimate" version since it always comes full featured.

edit: And even if you compare to the cheapest option, it's still more expensive at: $119.99

As I said in the previous post, the latest 3 versions of OS X combined cost $78.98 and you can install them in as many macs as you have. As opposed to only 1 PC for windows 7 ultimate, and there are no "Family Packs" for this "flavor" of windows.

Noes, really? I don't see the reason behind this...

Argh. Double clicking on shown hidden folders won't open them, I'll have to figure this out. Thanks guys!

No need to use defaults write for folder visibility, use "chflags nohidden" instead. Start troubleshooting your problem by removing the defaults you added.

What's changing in ML? Are they brining it back?

I think someone already replied .. but essentially it's mission control with a no-grouping option. Which is fine. Honestly, it's what I expected we'd get the first time round (ie. the ability to see all open windows AND spaces at once), and the removal of an ungrouped window feature really was upsetting.

Now... there's one last thing... does anyone know if they returned the ability to hit space to preview a window and use the arrow keys to scroll through them quickly / hit enter to go to that window?

You know what the right price for it should have been?

$0

Integrated airplay is worth $20 alone. Heck, the entire OS update costs less than the Airfoil program by Rogue Amoeba. For others, some other feature is worth $20. This is not a service pack. It's not a huge release by Apple standards but Microsoft never provided this many new features for free.

I can only hope. My go-to machine is a 2011 maxed-out quad i7 MBP HR, and on Lion, it both boots and runs considerably slower and groggier than Snow Leopard ever did. Add to that the loss of the simple & effective expose/spaces in exchange for the crippled Mission Control, the botched multi-monitor support and never-ending network problems... Lion has been a net-negative experience. Every time I jump on one of our SL machines, they're crisp and fast and reliable and colorful.

Since I use Parallels daily, I'll be holding off on the new install. If a fresh install of ML doesn't at least catch up to where SL left off, I'm downgrading back to SL, and there I'll likely stay.

Okay, quick question... Clean install, or should I go the easy route? Could I eliminate some cruft?

----------

Lion only took 1 week from GM version to be released to public.

I'd much rather they wait, and perhaps resolve the annoying launchpad moving icons bug... :(

I did a clean install and used my time machine backups to restore what I needed.
