Thats not the problem. Locking and unlocking files so that versions doesn't hold the temporary edits when the file is reopened is the problem. I am constantly checking and editing files sometimes making a change or an edit to compare and I have no desire to save that file so I close without saving changes... however when I am ready to save I prefer the old command save. I really would like to simply disable versions either by app or globally. Don't get me wrong I like it for some apps just not all. I was hoping for more customization or the ability to switch. I already have the hotkey re-mapped.
Thanks

Oh I see, it's an issue with versions. Well, dunno how to help there. :)

Smarty Pants

Mavericks converts quotes and apostrophes to the curly style in most apps. Though not Safari text fields (sorta makes sense).

Tested so far in Notes, TextEdit, Messages, and Mail.

New Folders

The folder icon has seen an ever-so-slight adjustment. You'd never notice it unless a MoLo-style folder was placed right next to it. Because of DropBox, that happened:

Yeah, Versions is the main thing that drove me from OS X in Lion. Can it be 100% turned off now? I hated not knowing what version of a file I was actually saving/sending and having to do extra work to not save changes.

It's pretty upsetting that Skype doesn't work for 10.9 yet. Every time I accept calls, it quits :(

I am not sure if this was there before but....

When you start searching in the safari bar, it shows iCloud tabs, which I am presuming is history from other devices.

Task Switcher & Launchpad

MULTITASKING/LAUNCHPAD:
It seems both task switcher and Launchpad aren't "abiding" by the display assignment configuration.

Thus, when I assign the primary display as the native display, I'd expect both Launchpad and task switcher to appear on that screen. Instead - either may appear on another screen.

The good news - when summoning Launchpad - only ONE display is affected. This greatly improves response and eliminates the need for redraw for wireless displays, et al.

THREAD EFFICIENCY:
At first look - processor usage/efficiency seems improved. Could be related to AppNap and other new clock-efficient technologies.

bring back transparent dock please.

great wrap up thanks,

My one complaint is the loss of translucent dock on sides. I'm a recent convert --- Lifelong windows user. to mac. Win 7 had semi-transparent windows and task bar. Aesthetically speaking I do miss that a tad. I don't miss Windows land at all though. Well, maybe the registry editor, how i miss that (yes I'm joking) LOVE me OSX but would like more slick interface and ability to change colors of app windows. it's the artist in me.

What did I buy? 15" Retina Macbook Pro 500GB SSD 16GB Ram

What do I love?
The Terminal UNIX! oh DOS see ya
The OS - Stable as a brick wall and intuitive
The retina Display - same reaction i had when i got my first HD TV from tube tv. Its that crisp and so choice.
Unity - no bloat ware,
The Unibody - i can drool over this all aluminum chassis. All my former PCs had some cheap plastic on them.
The Keyboard - a pleasure to type on. (the wireless external key board is even better. Why are the feeling of typing on the keys slightly different?)
Time machine - wow
the genie effect - beem me up.

But I digress from this forums topic sorry.... off to bed.

***Updates in red***

I've complied a list of everything in this thread (I think). It doesn't include:

- big features shown on the Mavericks Preview on Apple.com
- bugs
- Things that haven't changed since 10.8.4

- The linen backdrop has been removed from the OS
- Battery drop down shows Apps Using Significant Power [Pic]

I won't be going into too much detail as some others have covered "all the little things" rather well.

Very briefly. 10.9 is so very smooth. It is enjoyment using it. There are some bugs, but that is ok for an early release. There is plenty of time left for testing and bug reports before GM goes out.

I am sure that the power users will enjoy all fixes (unda-da-hood)...

More importantly, I believe that most people (your 'normal' users) will enjoy the overall experience. Mavercks has that feeling of 'being-just-right'. I did not have that with a new release since 10.6...

Power management on this thing is fantastic...

All in all, very nicely done by the ∞ team.

One very small, but convenient change. Adding a google-account now allows you for native contacts sync. In earlier versions you couldn't sync contacts directly. One used to have to open the contacts app, in there choose to sync google contacts to ones local contacts.

User Login @ GREY SCREEN

Members,

From power up - I have three login options:

1) User 1 (Standard)
2) User 2 (Admin)
3) Disk Password (CoreStorage, Encrypted Volume)

This is a new observation. Normally, I'd be prompted with a disk password, then prompted by the grey/linen login screen.

Is the boot-login a new "feature" or a function I need to address.

Thanks!

I don't have it. Just my users. Interesting "bug" maybe.

I can't see any difference? Maybe I'm not looking hard enough :p

---

Does Activity Monitor still have the option to show RAM usage as a pie chart in the dock, and if it does, does it look any different? (In ML, it's in the menu View >Dock Icon > Show Memory Usage)

Thanks :)

Quick question about Safari 7

If you zoom in on a webpage (cmd+) a couple of times and then quit safari and then reopen it, does safari remember the previous zoom level, or does it revert back to the default actual size?

This was one thing i liked about Chrome and have had to use a safari extension on safari 6 to correct.

Thanks

Safari 7 does not remember zoom in between sessions.
