Emacs

I know almost no-one cares anymore but could someone check if Emacs has been updated from 22.1 after six years untouched? It'd be great to see Apple keep their bundled software on the closer half of a decade old. :(

A couple of questions about Messages:

  • Have the annoying sync bugs been found and squashed? I'm talking about messages syncing out of order, and needing to close and reopen the app for them to appear correctly, or just needing to do that to make new messages appear at all.
  • Does Messages look any different to reflect the changes in iOS 7?

1. Fixed in 10.8.4
2. No.

If someone comes across using Mail sending a message to an outlook client: Is that font formatting issue still there?

For years now messages from Mail look messed up in Outlook, e.g. Helvetica 12 displays as something like Times 16 or so. Also body and signature show up differeny.

The new Activity Monitor has options to view processes by hierarchal views. In other words, processes that were spawned by another parent process are shown in a sort of "tree" structure. It's pretty cool.
And it is also pretty old because it has been there in previous versions of OS X like 10.8, 10.7, 10.6 and 10.5. It might look different because Activity Monitor got a make over. They rearranged some parts but they've added very little. Nonetheless the hierarchical view of processes is useful at times. On the cli I use pstree or htop for that.

Launching apps and quitting feels very fast. I am running a WD on USB 2, and it feels like 30 percent or faster in these operations compared to running internally.
I am sincerely sorry if what i'm about to show has been noted. But here goes.

Notice how the app isn't even running, Apple said that we would see this for web notifications but it's nice to see it across apps:

Exporting as PDF's (this is big lol):

In reminders instead of a pdf we get .ics, so just double click to import and you can choose to import as a reminder or new list.

On Mavericks DP1 there is no option to change how many top sites are displayed in Safari, the default being 12. However, after upgrading from Mountain Lion with Safari showing 24 Top Sites, that setting is preserved in Mavericks:

(thumbnails still loading in the screenshot)

EDIT: there is indeed an option to change how many Top Sites are shown - it was just relocated into Preferences.

Actually, if you go to Safari settings and hit the "General" tab, there is an option to choose how many top sites appear.

I'm sorry for spamming all threads by the same thing but: Is jabber supported in iMessages.app ? Thank you :)

I've seen you everywhere in the forums mate. So to answer your question, YES. But you have to add it via the Accounts pane in System Pref and you add it as an Other, iMessages account, then you can add Jabber, Yahoo, Google Talk, or AOL account.

Thank you for detail description! :) And I've been asking everywhere because I don't want to use multiple IM clients ;)

DP1: Transparent Dock bug when entering Mission Control

Nope. The upcoming iBooks Store will also look the same.

Actually, I've just had the pleasure of helping out with a new iMac purchase - replacing a 12 year old eMac with 256MB RAM of all things  - and as such gotten to try ML a bit more. The MAS UI isn't so bad there as it was in SL! I guess the smaller traffic lights allowed them to fit back/forward underneath instead of beside, and that makes it a lot nicer and more consistent, I have to say! It's really looking good for UI consistency with Mavericks at this point :).

When closing tabs rapidly in Safari 7.0, the tabs do not immediately resize to fill the whole bar. This allows you to quickly close multiple tabs without moving the cursor.

Yeah noticed that yesterday, very handy.

When scrolling in PDF's there's an annoying slight side to side jerk, on my Macbook.

On my 2011 Macbook Pro the F5 and F6 keys for controlling the keyboard brightness arent working. When I press them I get the onscreen icon with a circle and cross at the bottom.

One thing I'd like to know more about is 'AppNap'.... I like this resource tool which I think is a steroid enhanced add on for the activity monitor?

How long will Apple keep supporting ML (OS updates) before they kill it like they annihilated Lion?
