A few visual changes: Safari didn't open the sidebar with the new tab page for me. The system is a WHOLE LOT faster, and uses a LOT LESS CPU now. Memory is about the same, though. For me, ~4GB.

In DP2, the finder selection corners are a lot less rounded. Looks better, IMO:

Finder now saves the state of show tab bar option, in DP1, if you close the finder and open again it would open without tab

Can anyone try MPlayerX on DP2 ? Please, let me know if it is working under DP2, in the DP1 it doesn't.

Thanks.

i was asking to install latest beta of maveriks and test if there are any improvements in gaming (blizzard games esspecialy because seems they are taking serious macos like windows) or other demanding graphic card applications and see if there are differences between 10.8 and 10.9.

And i ask those who actually tried, there are? because i can't install these days beta mavericks

Nope, not working crashed upon start. My guess it's an issue the MplayerX folks need to fix.

No even if you delete the app and reinstalled under DP2 ? :(

Can you try this one : Mplayer OSX Extended (same engine as MPlayerX).

Thanks.

One thing I'd like to know more about is 'AppNap'.... I like this resource tool which I think is a steroid enhanced add on for the activity monitor?

How long will Apple keep supporting ML (OS updates) before they kill it like they annihilated Lion?
Why do you say that? Lion is still getting updated with 'security' updates, and still runs the latest Safari, iTunes, etc.... It's Snow Leopard that I fear Apple will stop updating in one or two years (which is not the same as 'killing').

Another question

Has Apple finally added the ability to decrypt external drives holding your home directory before trying to log in to your account? It'd be nice to actually benefit from the ability to encrypt external drives.

If not could someone please file a radar (or twelve)?

Is it just me or the font in the login screen and initial setup screens have changed? Looks like helvetica.

I had a weird issue where after my initial boot on DP2, the entire system font was actually Helvetica. The text in window titlebars was very different. The menubar's clock had helvetica font. The system menus on the left hand of the menubar ("file, edit, view, etc.") were the same as always. I know the menubar is mainly controlled by a Carbon app, which can't use custom fonts, so if Apple decided to change the default font it'd have to be done in code as a permanent change. I guess they could always do such a thing before Mavericks ships. I have no idea why it happened. Logging out and back in fixed it. Maybe Apple is experimenting with giving OS X a more modern font just as they decided to do with iOS 7. Or it was just a weird bug. Unless somebody else claims to have seen the same thing, I'll keep my mouth shut on speculation. Still, OS X very badly needs a facelift for its the system font -- looks the same as in 2000.

Lucida Grande is a very nice font for non-retina screens. I don't think iOS 7's helvetica neue would look very good on them, it's too thin. I could see apple either A) switching everything to normal helvetica, like iTunes or B) waiting a few years till everything is retina and then switch to iOS 7's look.

I've tested dozends of fonts regarding readability of short texts because I wanted something newer than Lucida Grande for a FileMaker interface. But it's unreached. Helvetica isn't good to read, the only ones coming close are the newer webfonts like Open Sans. But they arent really pretty.

I wonder why Apple hasn't yet come up with their own awesome font...

With DP1 my Bootcamp disk showed up as a folder in the Finder sidebar, with DP2 it has returned to the regular drive icon.

Also, if you hide all the tags from the sidebar the Tags title will also be removed.

Welcome Windows SMB 2 to the Mac :) first person to find it I think :)

Not to be mean, but you may actually be one of the last. This was noticed almost immediately when the WWDC concluded. It's very cool for anybody who has to work in an enterprise environment.

Very good catch. This was not in DP1. To extend on this, for basically any section where you hide all subitems in Finder's preferences (such as "shared" items), the group disappears from the sidebar. Finally. It always irked me that this wasn't the way it behaved until now. I love finding little things like this that cause somebody with OCD like myself to smile.

Helvetica was developed in 1957. Would that be more modern?

Of course there's Helvetica Neue. But the thin version is too thin for a system font, I think.

Control+Option+T to bring up special characters doesn't seem to work i dev preview 2. Strange.
