Has anyone found out yet that tapping the Wi-Fi icon gives you a numeric signal strength indicator? And Macisgr8, I was still able to take a screenie of the in-between pages. :p

You wouldn't happen to have a jailbreak iPhone?

Well, it was jailbroken on 2.2.1 before I upgraded it, but I've always thought that upgrading legitimately would knock out any jailbreak settings you had. But no, I haven't jailbroken my iPhone yet since I upgraded to 3.0.

On 2.2.1 jailbroken, the numeric Wi-Fi was different: it had the Mbps speed at which you were connected (54, 36, 11, etc). But now it shows the numeric signal strength. However, tapping the E or 3G icons doesn't do anything.

That didn't work for me when I tried it.

Also, since I haven't seen anyone mention the less-known new YouTube features yet, I figured I'd do that.

This is the initial screen after viewing the details of a video (tapping the blue arrow). This is largely the same, only you can now add the video to a playlist if you have a YouTube account. What's also new is that you can tap on another blue arrow on the video to see more details, including viewing and adding comments and ratings, and viewing a complete description of the video.

Here we have the full description of the video, the option to view more videos and, if we scroll down (as in the second screen), read comments and add a rating or a comment, or to flag the video as inappropriate.

Should you choose to comment, flag or rate, these are the screens you'd be presented with. Of course, you can't actually submit it without logging in first, and you'll be prompted to do so if you haven't already.

Here's a list of most of the other new YouTube features, but most of them require you to sign in to a YouTube account first.

iPod App now reconizes Japanese hiragana and lists it in the right order if you insert the spelling into iTunes.

Although the contact App already used it since 2.0, concerning the iPod App it's a new feature in 3.0.

That's a great find. It'll help me out.
Even if you have your OS in English will it show up hiragana as well as English letters.

Found one! If u hold a finger down in Safari it comes with a magnifying glass like in txting that u can move around

I found a really cool feature. When you go into Safari and type in an address and hit Go, it goes to the address you typed in.

Exchange global addressbook now searchable

Previously, iPhone 2.2 would search your Exchange global addressbook, if you started typing a name into an email's To: field, but now you can search the global Address book directly from your Contacts app, and get telephone numbers too!

Photos Zoom

I'm not sure if this has been mentioned in the thread but it's not in the original post - you can zoom further into photos in the Camera Roll then you could with 2.0.

When the is iPhone vertical, videos played through the iPod app will fit to screen. In 2.X they always played as if the iPhone was horizontal.

Default plays music in shuffle, not alphabetical order.

This is probably my single most wanted feature. When you have finished an album or are switching on the device for the first time. Double-clicking the home button and hitting play whilst the device is asleep or awake will 'Shuffle All' songs and not just play all your songs in alphabetical order. Regardless of whether shuffle is on or not.

This is fantastic as it made me become absolutely sick of the first 5 songs starting with A on my iPod when I was in a rush and just hit play.

Nice topic.

At the end of one video podcast episode it will now play in the next episode available in the videos section of the iPod app.

Time elapsed and time remaining in songs, podcasts, etc. are now always displayed in double digits. For example it will display -02:45 instead of -2:45

I totally agree. Sometimes I've missclicked and the song I was listening to stopped and the first song on A started playing. I'm also pretty sick of it by now...

Don't know if someone's said this already, can't be bothered to read through everything, but when you're scrubbing along a video or song, the lower you move your finger down the screen, the more precise it scrubs. So glad they've put this in.

Didn't read thread but didn't see it in OT. Nor did I know if it could be done in 2.0 . But I found it today either way and I'm happy :).

Instead of swiping to move between your home screen and pages of apps/spotlight you can just press the screen on the lower right or lower left above the dock. Perfect for the people that detest incessant swiping.

iPhone Synergy!

Hello

Haven't seen this anywhere (and like others haven't read through the pages of comments, just the Opening Thread).

Since OS 3.0 we now have multiple calendars and contacts.

I have my iPhone 3G configured for Mobile Me as my default for mail, calendars and contacts. Pre OS 3.0 I couldn't view my Exchange calendar because it was set up for Mobile Me. I couldn't browse the Exchange address book (even though it would search it when sending an email through my Exchange account).

Now I can browse my Exchange calendar and merge it into my iPhone calendar showing my Mobile Me and Exchange calendars.

I can also browse the Exchange Global Address Book through the Contacts app.

Sure I haven't seen this mentioned anywhere and it's almost there against the Palm Pre ... The biggest thing that was going to make me switch!

Apologies if this has been mentioned somewhere!

Tons of these "hidden features" are either not hidden (they were announced at some point such as during the developer preview) or are not new at all.

Will anyone be making updates to reflect that?

give me a break. it's not like there is a group of people doing this, it's just one kid doing it in his spare time. i know some of them were announced but some people get all pissed off if you don't put the feature they "found" up there. and about the ones that aren't new at all, i don't have an iPhone so you could basically tell me anything is new on the iPhone and i wouldn't know if it is or not.

Didn't see it on the first page of this thread, but the ability to disable the SMS preview no longer requires a password lock to be enabled, and has been moved to the Messages settings.

Sorry but I know that was there in the last iteration (2.2.1), cause I used it alot.

Hi.

I am from Denmark and now I can type the danish letters ÆØÅ directly in messages instead of holding A down og scrolling.
