Read the iphone manual; that's a feature they added to make it easy to get to.

I just want to you to know that the person was saying that you have to press the home button quickly, then press it again longer to get to the search. I tried it while I was in messages and it DID work, but I don't think they intended it to work *that way*, however, if you're already on the first home screen and tap home once, it will bring you to spotlight... I know that's a feature. The way he was saying it, it didn't sound like he was at the home screen already.

Yes, this is what I meant. Wherever you are on the iphone, it works. Even if you are on the home screen. Press it twice and it takes you to the search function. Press it once and nothing happens.

Pressing the home button once from the home screen takes you to Search. You don't have to press it twice.

You can press it twice from any app to go straight to Search if you have it enabled in Settings > General > Home. For example, in 2.2 if was common for people to have double-clicking home set to go to iPod. Now you can have it set to go to Search.

Has anyone mention the fact that you can use a two finger tap on a block of text to automatically select the whole paragraph? Pretty sweet.

Ah.. thanks for pointing that out. Along the same lines, is there a gesture to select an entire SMS conversation?

when you hit the 20% and less mark of your battery and you have the numerical percentage display activated it also turns red when its against a grey status bar

Previously, when creating a new contact, you had to tap the "Done" button for the contact to be saved. This has bitten me a few times, because after already confirming the person's number (or whatever), it isn't apparent (nor intuitive) that you still have to tap "Done." In the past, I'd look for that contact -- but it wouldn't have been saved.

Well, just now, I did it again: I didn't tap "Done." But upon realizing i hadn't, I searched for that new contact -- and it was there!

It's possible this sneaked in in 2.2.x (and if so, please correct me). But I'm thinking it's more likely this is a new enhancement in 3.0.

This is new. You are the first to post this.

I have done this numerous times. After entering in all the contact info pre 3.0 and just hitting the home button the go "DOH!", try all over again.

Did anyone notice the new transition between apps and the home screen? When you quit an app by tapping the home screen the app flies back (like time machine) and fades away. It didn't used to fade like it does now, it's a very minor change.

Apologies if this has been said before. When you press the home button twice consecutively (first time for a short period and second time for longer) the search function comes up.

The iPhone registers a home button click as complete when the click is lifted (in order to facilitate Voice Control).

If you double click home and hold like you are, the OS sees this as nothing more than a second click from the home screen. If you hold long enough however, it will think you want Voice control.

What I found is a little different: If you use a two-finger tap, the iPhone will highlight all text between the two fingers.

As others have pointed out, this seems to work only for selecting text you can edit (e.g., on a Notes page or composing an email) but not for text you can't edit (e.g., a web page in Safari).

This works awesomely. Thanks.

I almost wonder if someone should start a mini-thread for listing all of the changed text auto-correction behavior. There's been a lot of helpful (and some less so, but still useful) changes observed, some not so obvious to others.

My latest find - one of the only one that drives me crazy on a regular basis - is that it no longer wants to correct "kinda" to "kinds."

I've been trying to keep up with the thread, and I don't *think* anyone mentioned this one yet.

Couldn't see this earlier in the thread, apologies if it's a dupe.

I regularly fill up my 16gb phone because of too many podcast subscriptions, when it happened today this popped up. Definitely new :)

I really couldn't be bothered to look thru 34 pages especially on my iPhone, and it's not exactly a feature, but when you delete an email, the bin no longer wobbles, it just closes. Shame, I liked the wobble

That warning dialog is not new. I remember getting that on my iPod touch back in 1.1 days.

and it also will no longer autocorrect "texting" to "testing"

Apologies as I don't want to read 31 pages, but how do I get a percentage indicator of my battery?

I'm wondering how a fellow 1k+ poster hasn't grappled the concept of the search function...

But to answer you question, since I'm already here...no, the 3G can only display the % after JB. Or you can get an app that tells you, FreeMemory I think (but only inside that app).

Buy a 3GS :D

I own a 3GS, and I remember on my 3G 3.0 beta, the percentage sign was activated.

1. Jailbreak your iPhone
2. Open /var/mobile/Library/com.apple.springboard.plist in Property List Editor and add "SBShowBatteryLevel" with a Boolean "Yes"

Then restart your iPhone. If you have no idea what I'm talking about, then you're not ready for a battery percent indicator.
