Has this one been mentioned?

When you hold down your finger on a link a menu will pop up and allow you to either copy the URL or open it in another window.

yea it's on the list. but the only thing i don't like about this is that previously when you held down on a link a little bubble came up showing the link title. this was good when you weren't zoomed in and and you wanted to make sure you were click the right thing.

Can someone tell me how to use street view? I cant find this at all

first drop a pin in maps. you'll see a new orange icon. if it's grayed out (like the first image) then street view isn't available for that area. if it isn't grayed out (like the second image) then tap that icon and you'll be taken to street view

I always wondered how to do that, Thanks! :)

I thought that you can enable it again after turning on Airplane mode. So that one can use WiFi on the plane.

yep that's what I meant, I was asking if there was a way to make it so that airplane mode only kicks you off the carrier and leaves the wifi on

It still auto kills wifi whether you have it on or off. You have to re-enable it after you turn on airplane mode.

I had it on in the pic just because I was in an edge area and all the speakers I was passing by made that weird noise that they do.

ah ok, at least I won't have to find that next week when I get 3.0 \o/:)

I noticed when a ringtone has a long name and is assigned to a contact instead of cutting off the name of the ringtone it just makes the text smaller

I dont think OS 2.0 did not have this feature.
As you can see from the image, the phone tries to auto-correct Korean words if anyone can read it.. haha...

I use 2.2.1 and have tested this in French, Japanese and (Traditional) Chinese. They all auto-correct to aid text input, just as English does.
It is not a new feature in this regard and should not be included in the list.

THAT IS, unless khong1010 meant that Korean itself now has auto-correct; I tried using the Korean keyboard but have NO idea as to how it works, so I can't verify if it does or doesn't work in 2.2.1.

E.g.:

Oh by the way, this is my first post here.
I love reading some of these threads.
I might as well get to working on my signature and profile pic... ha.

Hmm, what happened to repeat (1x and all)?

not sure. guess you have to do it manually now??

also another thing i have noticed, its not really a feature but when you enter passwords letters seem to remain visible for longer before they turn into dots. could just be me though

thanks for testing that out. i removed it from the list.

in 3.0 you can now type all of the emoji icons in landscape. previously, the landscape keyboard would cut off some of the emoji icons but now it shows them all. that was really annoying in 2.x.x

EDIT: sorry for the double post, i didn't realize it at first

I don't know if this is addressed already, but the force-quit information in the OP is wrong. Now, instead of holding down the home button, you hold down the sleep/wake button until a red bar appears on top of the screen, and then hold down the home button to force quit the application. They just changed it becuase of the new voice control.

if you only have one iTunes account tied to you're iPod/iPhone, you can still re-download apps on the fly without paying again. rumors said you would have to pay for the app again if you re-downloaded on your iPod/iPhone even if you only had one account tied to the device.

From my tests, this is not true.

I only have one account tied to my two iPhones - same account on my original iPhone, same account on my iPhone 3G. Apps I downloaded with my original iPhone can be redownloaded for free on my original iPhone but I must download and sync with an authorized PC when using my 3G. The reverse applies to the 3G.

In other words, the applications you download are locked to the phone you used to download them. If you switch phones, swap phones at a Genius bar, or upgrade to a new model iPhone your apps will have to be downloaded and sync'd from a computer authorized to download that application.

there is now no way to completely close apple applications from within the app. previously you could hold down the home button and it would completely close the app and stop it from running in the background. this no longer works. also apps like MemoryInfo will not close these applications.

This is also not true and has been covered above.

Hold down the sleep/wake key until the "slide to power off" screen appears, release. Next, hold the home button until you are kicked back to the home screen. The application has been force quit.

This way works even better. When the new menu pops up asking if you want to Open, Open in a New Window, Copy or Cancel it shows you the actual address of the link. So you still get the info you did before but the added option of opening it in a new window or copying it.

am i missing something with the double click home button? in settings i set it so it goes to search but i also set iPod Controls on but it brings up the iPod controls even when a song is not playing. i even force quit the music app to be sure it was stopped and it still brought up the iPod controls. the only time that it will actually go to search is when the iPod Controls can't come up (i.e. the now playing screen). this is really stupid and it shouldn't bring up the iPod controls if no music is playing.

thank you. i was wondering why the took that out at first but i guess they didn't. i corrected it i the list and gave you the credit.

noticed when i was making a genius playlist via iphone it has little dots instead of letters for every second letter

not sure if this was there pre 3.0 or not but thought i'd post anyways.

You can now close the last browser window you have open even if there is only one open. It will close it and then open a new blank window. This is in Safari under the same area you use to switch between multiple windows.

This isn't going to be a major issue for me and I'm sure I'll get used to it, but I'm not a big fan of this change, the dots make it stick out more, I was fine with the letters, but at least this is a minor thing.

I know this doesn't qualify as a feature, but it is *part of one of the new features and something that really doesn't sit well with me.

When sending an SMS, as soon as you hit "send" the message goes up into the conversation window even if the message fails to send in the long run. They added the little clickable red exclamation point to bring up the option to retry but my major bicker about this is the sound. The little "whoop" sound that plays, in the past, played when the message sent and went into the conversation window. Now it just seems out of place without the message moving with the sound...

Does this bother anybody else or am I being nitpicky?

I don't want to read through this thread, but I may have found a new feature.

When you receive an extremely long text message, this is what you see.

I don't know if this is new in 3.0 or not, but I have never seen it.

I think that's always been there.
