If you read, travel and mostly consume media, the 11" is great. I had a 12.9" and it was too big for travel and reading books. I was also using the 12.9" when they came out with the capability to use it as a 2nd monitor, but found it too buggy to be useful.

This is how I feel. For travel 11 is perfect. 12.9 would be if I was using it as a laptop replacement. The mini is great too for ultra portable travel but may be too small for many.

Also the second screen thing is way more usable after some updates on MacOS and iOS. I almost never run into an issue anymore.

You really want me to justify why I like something? I find it interesting to read why people prefer each one and interesting to see the data results. Hope that's sufficient.

Perfectly fine if that floats your boat. I was just surprised to have it labelled as the greatest thread ever.

Agree. . . I currently have a 12.9. Will likely get the smaller one when I purchase my next one.

Based on what I’ve read in various threads over the years, I’m thinking there were 12.9 owners who changed to the 11 but never changed their vote. 😉

Agreed. I still find Sidecar to be buggy and I don't hold out much hope for Apple fixing it.

However, I use the 12.9" iPad Pro and Duet Display with a USB-C cable and that combination is pretty stable, so that is a possibility to consider if using it as a 2nd monitor is important to you, like it is to me

Maybe 12.9 users also went that way for the mini led display. Now version both models will have the same screen which will be good

I’ve had both. I honestly can’t remember which way I voted in here because it’s been a while, but I think the 11” is probably the better all around device. I currently have the 12.9 and wound up buying a mini because I just couldn’t get comfortable using the 12.9 with the MK anywhere other than a desk or table. I have used it in my lap occasionally with the keyboard, and although it’s doable, it’s not really comfortable.

That said, I think the 12.9 makes more sense for me because I use it as my only computing device. Since I type on it a good bit, and do other “computer” things with it, it makes sense for me to have the larger keyboard and screen.

For travel, I take the mini.

Seems like most of us are leaning towards the 11” iPP (at least on this page). However, the poll shows a clear 50%-50%

My vote is for the 11” for the mobility, lapability and convenience, and with the upcoming OLED models, the differences between the two screens will be only the size.

11" for the tiny footprint.

12.9" would be a choice for me if it was the main device and possibly replacing an entire Macbook. Though at that point once you factor in the mouse, keyboard, USB hub and so on, the weight and space it takes up is too close to that of a faster and in many workflows more versatile Macbook Air. (And for me, the Mac is still needed for syncing and offline backups, at which point I might as well just use the Macbook...)

I'm still solidly good with my M1 12.9 and wouldn't consider moving to a smaller size.
Same, I'd actually consider moving to a larger size as my main iPad. But I am a multi-iPad person, so I also have the 11 (for use on the go) and the mini (for use in bed and some other specific uses), but at home it's 12.9 all the time (or larger whenever it arrives)

I also have a cellular Mini 6 as a companion device - great combo and both get a lot of use.

I currently have the 2018 iPad Pro 12.9

Have been debating getting the 11 for a while now

Recently I've also been thinking about the iPad mini though. Main reason is I fly to NY in a few months, so no big rush to get it, however not a great fly, and I want to be able to try and switch off by watching my own stuff on an iPad device. Do people find they have much space on a flight with the 11 inch iPad, or is it maybe too cramped at your seat (like I imagine it would be if I used my 12.9)

I don't even find the 12.9 cramped on a flight, it's perfectly fine

Hi, I voted "both" because both have their own uses. 12.9" is for people who use it as a desktop computer (like keeping it on a stand/trickle charging), 11" is for people who use it as more of a laptop (with a keyboard case and pencil).

I've just purchased the M2 iPad Pro 12.9" after selling my Tab S8 Ultra. For me personally I like the screen estate for Stage Manager and multitasking. I love big screens, I have the iPhone 14 Pro Max for the same reason and the Apple Watch Ultra. IF Apple announce the long rumoured 15" MacBook Air at WWDC, I will buy that and replace my 13" 2019 MacBook Pro (not just for the size reason but because I want better battery).

What made you get rid of the ultra?

OS mainly, but I also missed Apple Pencil and apps like Procreate.
Funny how I sometimes consider getting rid of my ultra, as I don't use it much, but for very different reasons. I actually prefer the OS (OneUI) over iPadOS, much more capable. The main reasons for me are hardware reasons, and to some extend apps. Most apps are fine but it lacks a browser that is as fast and optimized for desktop sites as Safari. Some powerul apps are missing, but , but things improved since Lumafusion is available. Pencil is slightly better but not a big deal for annotating.
For me the main reasons are the very reflective screen, the accidental touches due to small bezels (not happening on iPad) and the the aspect ratio.
I am still keeping it as I have a Samsung phone and it's very nice to have quickshare (= airdrop for Samsung) for video editing in Lumafusion and occasionally as a wireless pen-enabled monitor and for streaming movies on a much larger display than the 12.9" iPad

So , now with the upcoming and new iPad OS 17, that feature interactive widgets, etc.. could this mean a preference for a bigger and more immersive screen and hence push the 12.9” slightly forward ? Let’s see..
