Just installed Monterey on macbook pro 15" mid 2015 (with 2 gpu's), which had Catalina and there is no lag with iGPU when browsing or typing in any program. Monterey seems to be working faster than Catalina on that laptop. Felt little bit frustrated, because I updated from that machine to this 16" 2019 and got inferior laptop, at least in case of macos, web browsing and typing. Maybe I should just buy 2015 machine again and get rid of this ****, or just get rid of macbook world all together, just because it seems that all models have too many problems. It feels just stupid to buy them, live with problems and then buy them again. No thank you. I'm done.

I'm running Monterey, not entirely happy as there's a minor lag for the last letter in a word ever so often, and the occasional curser lag, but way better than Big Sur as you've said. From your specs, we have identical machines.

Rolled back to Catalina too (again) and there is no lag at all. Battery life seems to be a lot better too. This time I will stay here until someone confirms that this software bug has been fixed. I'm actually not missing anything that Big Sur or Monterey brought to the table. Catalina actually looks and feels more professional UI compared to newer candy lands ?

So I guess these Macs are useful until Catalina support ends

Honestly I don't care anymore

It will be like this forever, I've got used to it
Apple's macbook pro's are a disappointment, particularly when the rest of their line-up works so well, the macbook air m1, ipad pro and iphone/pro are excellent products compared to the MBPs. It's no excuse for this poor quality but could it be that the people who use pro's dont actually use them for typing out text and rather for heavier creative apps?

It lags the terminal, it lags everything

No excuses

But also because is software bug since with older versions it doesn't appear.

The combination of that particular iGPU + poor drivers makes a 3000€ laptop lag while typing, it's crazy to say but it's the reality

Monterey 12.3.1 does something to igpu driver, has anyone with 16" 2019 tried if that helps with input lag?

The Intel MacBook Pros are a disappointment. The M1 2021 MacBooks Pros are smooth and fast.

I don't see this problem on the 2021 MacBooks. The Intel iGPU is weak sauce and the only way to minimise the lag is use the AMD GPU all the time.

2015 Intel Macbook pro with iGPU does not have input lag with Monterey, so I don't think this problem has anything to do with weak hardware and everything to do with weak Apple MacOs programming.

2015 Intel Macbook pro with iGPU
The 2015 iGPU was better than the 2019 MacBooks. The 2015's had Iris Pro while 2019 had Intel UHD graphics.

The Iris is much better. The iGPU in the 2019 MBP 16" is so horrible.

Intel® Iris® Pro Graphics 5200 in the 15" MBP 2015 vs Intel® UHD Graphics 630 in the 16" 2019 MBP.

Blame Intel for downgrading the iGPU.

CPU and iGPU in 2015 15": https://www.intel.com.au/content/ww...r-6m-cache-up-to-3-70-ghz/specifications.html

CPU and iGPU in 2019 16": https://ark.intel.com/content/www/u...9750h-processor-12m-cache-up-to-4-50-ghz.html

everything to do with weak Apple MacOs programming.
Huge disagree. For this, the Intel's iGPUs in the 16" 2019 are crap downgrades from 2015 MBPs.

Open for example Pages and keep spacebar pressed with default settings and you can see the text cursor random judder. Now, while doing that, move mouse cursor with trackpad at the same time --> Text cursor Judder is gone.

Same goes for Safari, and I can actually demonstrate it here when typing this message.

You can change MacOS settings so that text cursor judder is gone when "tested" this way, but that will still keep the typing judder/lag, which could be gone if mouse is moved with other hand and typing is done with one hand ;)

Same thing happens if you for example watch youtube video same time as you are typing, then there is no typing judder/lag. I'm not a programmer, but I think this is bad programming, where programmer do not know or care how 2019 Intel CPU+iGPU work together compared to CPU+iGPU combo from 2015.

There has been speculation that this is caused by T2 chip kernel or iGPU power management, but I have not found any actual proof of what is happening here.

It all started on Big Sur and beyond.

If the iGPU is the weak sauce, why does everything work just fine on Catalina?

So, Apple screwed it.

More like why did Intel provide a **** iGPU in their CPU that is slower than the 2015 MacBook Pro 15" in the 2019 16" MacBook Pro.

The 2015 MBP 15" with its intel iGPU does not have this issue because it's more powerful than the one in the 2019 16".

I am not 100% sure but since a couple of days I do not any more notice the problem. Either with latest monterey beta or with fresh installed ventura beta... I will report further observations...
