I'm using Monterey beta and typing lag is the same as it was in Big Sur. Only way to really get rid of it currently seems to be going back to Catalina. I did that few weeks ago and lag was gone, so there is nothing wrong with hardware and everything wrong with apple software.

Probably it will be never fixed...

3k laptop and it lags due to faulty drivers or something, unbelievable

how did you do this? I also got on the beta wagon a week ago with hopes to get Catalina performance. When I wiped my drive in May, I didn't even see Catalina available. I only got Big Sur. I dont feel like I use the new features. I just want a smooth experience jumping desktops and writing.

How should I go about rolling back to Catalina?

Download macOS Catalina and create a bootable usb drive using that link.
Make sure to back up any important files to an external drive before going back.

Is this going to wipe my hard drive?

My general approach on changing operating systems is to back it up to Time Machine (three copies) and then wipe and reinstall. Sometimes I will connect an external SSD and install on the external SSD to try it out and so that I can run with the new operating system while my files are available from the internal SSD. Then, when I have my programs and files on the external SSD, wipe the internal and CCC the external to the internal.

Disabling anti-malware (clamxav) and upgrading to Catalina 11.6 appears to have improved typing behaviour on iGPU. Also turned off Touch bar typing suggestions.

Is there any improvements with new betas?

I can confirm that without disabling automatic graphics switching it changes nothing.

Only thing to do is wait for Monterey and see...

No, it's the same. macOS after Catalina cannot utilize Intel gpu efficiently. I have accepted this and will not use Intel gpu anymore. Battery time is few hours shorter and laptop sometimes gets too hot, but yea, whatever.

I heard there has been a new beta build... any chance there have been any positive developments?

I bought a brand new 16" MacBook Pro 1 TB on Tuesday, When I am typing it seems to freeze for a split second then carry on. So yesterday I went back to the apple store I bought it from and they decided to give me a replacement. And now on the replacement I am facing the same issue. I have tried doing a SMC and PRAM reset but still no difference, and also when I got the replacement I set up the computer as a new machine and manually transferred all my files over, so there was no time machine backup etc.

I booked a genius bar appointment again for today, they advised me to reinstall Big Sur and try the computer with a fresh install. I still get the exact same issue with a proper fresh install....

When I first got them they were running macOS Catalina and I updated them to Big Sur - 11.4 .

Can the 16" run Big sur? My 2019 iMac runs it fine and that only has an i5.

Any suggestions would very much be appreciated!
This also happens on the MacBooks with the M1 processor. It may be a coincidence, but for me this happens when an update becomes available. Almost like they are throttling until you rebook and install update.

Update: Turning off hand-off, parallels toolbox, and disabled anti-malware appears to have ameliorated the tic. Need to re-enable them to find out which one was causing the issue, time permitting.
Update 2: removing the google account also appears to have helped. lag is almost imperceptible if not absent.

I'm not able to update now to Monterey because is my working laptop and I want to wait.

Some of you have tried to update to the stable version?

On my 2019 16" upgraded to Monterey 12.0.1, there is definitely that weird lag that happens every once in a while when typing. I've had it happen in Sublime Text, BBEdit, and Drafts. My daughter's 13" M1 doesn't have this issue at all.

After 24 hours, significantly better than Big Sur on the 16"?
