dont get me wrong, i was in line at 1pm for the first iphone and at 6am for the 3G and waiting in line for Leopard (that one was really fun). my alarm didnt go off for the 3GS but i was still able to stroll in at 10 am and get one. I waiting in line for 2 hours for the iPad a few weeks ago but that was at 10am when the doors opened. The 3G iPad isnt being released until 5pm... Apple isnt even doing a real launch for it. if there are a bunch of other people around you then its entertaining to mingle with other walks of life as you all come together for one great product but if you are there for the next 4 hours by yourself before anyone else shows up its got to get pretty boring. Excitiing at first for the first hour or so but then reality has to set in that you simply got there too early LOL. I really dont consider this a NEW product.. its an iPad with added functionality. Its like if they had released iPhone in 07 with Edge only and then 3 weeks later added WiFi... i dont think there would be a big day one minute one demand for it... It could be just me but i dont feel the new product vibe in the air.

(flame me if you want... I bought the iPad on day one and i have my 3G on order at apple.com and plan on ebaying the wifi only model.)

Dork, not....
Sure to get his iPad 3G today, YES!

I'm lucky, I can work from home...so I will most definitely be here when it arrives. :D

Wish I had an Apple store in my area! Your making me jealous, Scott! My iPhone is my first Apple product and I'm sold on Apple's quality. Did I read that the Apple stores were going to close at 4:00pm and reopen at 5?

not a dork - just excited.
I took today off and will be leaving shortly to run a quick errand and then get in line.
I didn't pre-order in time for delivery today because I was worried that last weekend would be the launch and I was out of town. By the time I realized it would be later than that the ship date had slipped to May 7. So, yes, I have one on order for May 7 but if I can get one today I'll cancel that order.

No flames. You're right. I'm too early. Oh well, I had no way of knowing and I didn't want to take any chances.

I figure if I can't get one in my narrow window of 5 pm to 5:30 pm, which I would miss if there was a long line in front of me, I won't see one again for days and days at a minimum. I could be wrong on all counts, but oh well, I'm here now and I know I'll have 2 of them by end of day.

So I take it there are no reports of any Best Buys giving out vouchers - so you're really in line for 5 p.m.?

I'm leaving work a bit early and planning to show up at the Reston VA Best Buy at 5:30 or so. If things don't seem favorable there for whatever reason (long line, already sold out, shipment didn't arrive etc), I'll walk across the street to the Reston Town Center Apple Store and see how it looks there. If it's also not favorable there, I'll be drinking beer at the Uno's bar by 6:15 and will try another day.

Definitely try the Reston Apple store - they seem to be good at stocking up on stuff. Had a bunch of iPads launch day and yesterday was able to pick up camera adapter no problem b/c they had a bunch.

I'm doing the same.

Hehe.. you can live vicariously through this.

I wish I had done that!!

What wrong with being a dork, especially if your the #1 dork?

This made my day. hahaha

I know your pain Scott. My local Best Buy got s new shipment of the wifi iPad a week after launch, and to make sure I got one, I arrived at the store at 5:45 am even thoughthey didn't open till 11. I was the only one there until about 9 when just s couple other people started showing up. They handed out vouchers an hour before opening, and then when the store opened at 11, there was a pretty good size crowd waiting at the doors. All in all, even though I was the biggest dork in all of the city that day, I got what i wanted and that's all that matters. Hang in there:D

Yea I got here mad early too.

Line doesn't even start till 2.

FML.

But I'll be the new owner of one come 5. :p

Going tonight

Gonna be at the Arizona one tonight. Watch my uncle get his 64GB iPad wifi and 3G. I already got my iPad 16gb wifi:) I love the apple launch days

You think you're a dork? I'm 60 years old, was waiting in my room at the Hilton and moved down to the loading dock to intercept the FedEx...you may be the #1 dork but I'm the Oldest Dork

It is more of the experience than the threat of missing out.

I stood in line at Gamestop for about seven hours to get a Nintendo Wii the night before Black Friday. It was cold, foggy and weird watching the crowds form up near Walmart for their Black Friday stuff. There was only about 20 of us in line but we had fun.

I was at Valley Fair Mall in Santa Clara for the original iPhone launch. Met up with a good friend I hadn't seen in a couple years and got to meet Woz (even got a photo with him). That was also a really cool time.

Yep, it's about the experience. Life is short.

ha. Well, for some reason, I'm not comfortable putting out on the internet my exact location. Sorry if that's paranoid, but I just have certain things I don't like doing online.

I will let you guys know how this line looks as the day goes on. It's probably representative of the other stores here.

Dude...you're at an Apple store in Houston...how hard could it be to find you with that much information? Even if we knew you were waiting in line at a McDonalds it wouldn't take someone but a few hours to track ya down!

It's like you're an ostrich, and just because you have your head in the sand you think you're safe from predators.

Peace and enjoy the wait! :D

I ordered mine online and had it shipped to work. The place I work at is big, and on the way in I saw the Fedex guy. I asked if he went to my building yet but he said no. The I asked if I could grab the package, gave him my name, and hes like, Ah yes you got something from apple right? I said yes and hes like it's some where around here, but i cant get it now, I'll be at your building around 12. UGH!! its driving me insane knowing that its only a few feet away from me and I cant get fro another hour!

I got to the store closest to me at 8 am. No one is here yet. I am surprised, but happy. I have to be somewhere at 6 pm, so I didn't have time to wait long after 5. I thought, if I get here now, I'd be done by 5:30 or so. Well, looks like I'll be done by 5:05. :D

Not disclosing which store just because I don't want that broadcast out there, but it's one of the handful in Houston. :)

I can work from here just as easy as my office, and I even have a power plug. :p

You are at the Memorial City Apple store, aren't you? ;-)
