Does apple give you anything for standing in line(Free Camera Kit etc)

I've always wondered that

Good Luck:)

Yeah, the no chair thing was a big gaffe on my part. I completely forgot about that, and I'm not 18 anymore, so sitting around on a tile floor isn't exactly easy on me.

At the WiFi launch they gave out free coffee and bottled water. I've never experienced Apple giving away anything of greater value than a t-shirt, and that seems to be reserved for store launches, not product launches, these days.

How you making out, Scott? Still hanging in there I hope! Keep your spirits up, 3g will be yours in just a few hours more!

Ha! Thanks for checking on me. I'm ok. Back is hurting, but I'm officially first in line! That's a huge accomplishment considering there is a HUGE line behind me now. I mean HUUUUGGGGEEEE. It's up to 3 people!!! Whew... glad I got her early. :D

Our enthusiasm doesn't seem to be that in line with the average joe public's in regard to the 3G. It seems that a lot of the people who stop and talk just don't even get it when we say, "It's a new iPad."
The response every time, "But there's already an iPad, right? It's not new."
Then me or one other in line will say, "But this is the 3G version."
Then it's always either a blank stare of cluelessness, or "3G? What's that?"
"iPhone?" lol

I keep telling myself that I'll be glad I did this at about 3 or 4 pm when the line is actually significant, but I could have come in a few hours later and been #3 in line vs. #1. :(

Hope everything's going good for you Scott :)

Much praise to you for getting first in line, I've always wanted to be that person.

Are they friendly folks? That always makes a difference.

Is Apple not giving out vouchers anymore? I remember standing in line for the 3G iPhone starting at around 7:30am, there was probably 50 people ahead of me. An Apple employee came out around 8:30 asking each of us in line what GB/color we wanted, gave us a voucher, and we can pick it up anytime that day. Maybe some stores have to do it for crowd/street control?

Getting ready to join you in the wait. When I got to my Apple Store I could have been first but decided on some lunch instead. No chair for me either. :(

OmegaPhil6 went, blah blah blah and then:

(flame me if you want... I bought the iPad on day one and i have my 3G on order at apple.com and plan on ebaying the wifi only model.)

Truly amazing how many people are taking offense that Scott-n-Houston has chosen to spend his day waiting to get his hands on an iPad.

Yet those same people are sitting on their asses reading about it and writing inane comments, even questioning Scott's employment status.

More power to you, Scott-n-houston. Do what you want, man. And I hope you get a 3G post haste.

Well, while ordering online is definitely easier, nothing beats standing in line because it adds to the excitement. The iPad that you waited 8 hours for is greater than the iPad being delivered. :D

It is truly an odd feeling. I feel like team captain now that we have a decent little line forming.

Are they friendly folks? That always makes a difference.

Yes. So far very friendly. Only 2 fights. :D

What is your bathroom strategy?

The poster above who said "depends" is hilarious.

Apple folks told us that we police our own line. Everyone is cool about letting folks leave and come back.
I'm about to go on a beer-run for the line actually... just substituting soda for the beer. ;)

HA! Thank you!! It's pretty funny to read, I agree. As for my employment status, it was in good standing before today, we'll see. :D
To whomever asked what I do, I'm a professional line sitter. I am selling my spot at 5 pm for $500. :p

Yeah... I feel like a real winner right now. LOL They'll love me.

I'm also sick of answering the question, "What are they selling today?" to all these Mall Walkers roaming around!

I would start making up responses like "Kidneys and Livers" or "Toasters" and "Blenders". :D

If I was in the area, I'd be right there with you. Line Waiting can be a fun "sporty" thing to do if it's with great people.

Dude, you're #1 - be proud! You will be the first there to get one!

ha... I like that idea, and yes, now I'm feeling better about it as the line is growing much quicker now. Not huge yet, but up to like 12 people.

Hey good for ya Scott. There quite something else about waiting in line, vs getting it delivered. Keep strong, just 2.5 hours to go!

I need to change the clocks to EST so it would be 2.5 hours. :)
3.5 for is in the CST zone. But who is counting? Haha

line is growing now, so it's more fun as we go.
