OK, I'm in the same exact situation Magas was earlier.

3.1.2 with 5.11.07 baseband and stuck in the loop forever.

Working on extracing the SHSH via umbrella now...but how do I get that custom firmware? Can anyone PM the link? :D:D:D

You do not need your SHSH except as a backup. If your phone is pwned, it won't even ask for an SHSH; if it is not, you can't restore to a custom firmware.

Well my phone was not pwned and it was asking for a shsh from apple,... not until I faked it with tinytss did it let me load the custom firmware.
I could not load the custom firmware until I did this.

Had some problems generating SHSH via umbrella and decided to try via Cydia's servers...and what do you know. I must of backed up my SHSH when I did my first jailbreak!

Phone is back to normal, thanks all for help, advice, and magus for starting this thread. :)

So I ran Umbrella and, as I figured it would not find a SHSH file since I bought this phone from someone and therefore have no backup files form it.

So, here's my big question: Is it at all possible for me to:

1. Get an SHSH file from someone (like on the forum or somewhere) and pawn it off as my own? Ultimately fooling the system into believing it's mine and then being able to use TinyTss to load my fakey up and make iTunes install my modded firmware?

2. Generate a fake SHSH file?

Thanx in advance.

Unfortunately, neither 1 or 2 appears possible, nor has either ever been done.

get your shsh file with the latest version of umbrella just input you ECID number and select 3gs 3.1.3 and server to apple,,
apple will giive you the file as it is signing 3.1.3

I was selecting 3.1.2 in Umbrella and choosing Cydia in hopes that the guy who I purchased the iPhone from backed up there. Theoretically, if he did back up there, I would be able to download it, correct?

I selected 3.1.3 to create the SHSH from apple.

Then loaded the custom 3.1.3 while running tinyssh.. took 3 times to take.
This phone did not have a stored shsh anywhere... tried all the firmware versions from saurik

That is true. If it said it was not available then, sadly, it was never backed up. To answer your question from yesterday, you cannot use another person's SHSH because it is unique to your phone's processor and there is no known way to generate an SHSH (it may not even be possible).

Thank you. Now, is there a way to find out what baseband I have?

The only way I know is to check Settings > General > About > Modem Firmware. Modem firmware is another name for baseband.

RRRize: you might want to try requesting your 3.1.2 SHSH from the Apple server. I was shocked just now to have been able to download my wife's 3.1.2 SHSH from Apple...maybe they haven't stopped signing 3.1.2 for everyone?

There's no way for me to check my baseband then since I can only get my phone in DFU mode.

As far as trying to request 3.1.2 from Apple, I did try to do that with Umbrella with zero luck. Is your wife's phone a 3GS? Are you using Umbrella to do the request?

My wife has a 16 GB white 3GS week 37 on 3.1.2 which has never been jailbroken. I requested it from Apple using Umbrella. I was sure it wouldn't download because MuscleNerd said that Apple had stopped signing...but it did! I haven't tried restoring with it (she's have my head if I restored her phone!) but it downloaded.

I tried my 32 GB black 3GS week 30 and also was able to get the 3.1.2 hash from Apple. But mine's been jailbroken, so I can't be sure that it didn't get it from Cydia...but my wife's was never jailbroken. Believe me, I'm not trying to give you false hope -- I think that's worse than no hope. I'm just befuddled.

Can anyone else with a 3GS get their 3.1.2 SHSH with Umbrella?

Totally not working for me. :( I have not yet tried what magas did (Umbrella > 3.1.3) but I think I am going to try that now. If I do manage to download 3.1.3 from Apple using Umbrella, what steps should I take after to ensure that I don't smash my baseband?

If the 3.1.2 shsh was still "gettable", wouldn't a request from Jays server via Cydia go through?

Just be sure not to use the official 3.1.3 firmware. Only use a custom firmware made with PwnageTool. If it works, you'll be jailbroken and unlockable; if it doesn't, then you're not pwned and it just won't work (SHSH locally chached with umbrella and TinyTSS or not).

I'm having a problem understanding what to do with TinyTSS. When I double-clik it, nothing happens. I know it acts as a server, but should I not be able to configure it to host the SHSH file? I guess more pointedly, I should ask, WHAT should I do with TinyTSS?

Okay, nevermind. I figured out TinyTSS. So here's what I did:

1. Used Umbrella to create 3.1.3 SHSH and saved it.
2. Used TinyTSS to host it
3. Modified 3.1.3 firmware with PwnageTool 3.1.5
4. Put iPhone 3GS in DFU mode
5. Option+Clicked RESTORE in iTunes and navigated to the modified 3.1.3
6. I tried it 5 times (not just 3) and got the same error each time (The iPhone "iPhone" could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (1600).

Frustrated.

Yes you must run tinyss from a cmd window and choose the file you selected.
Thelatinist... I'm gonna try to get my 3.1.2 from windows.... That's was not possible yesterday for sure.. Least not with my Ecid.... I'll let you know maybe apple decided to start signing again?!

Also did you change your host file of gs.apple.com to 127.0.0.1? You must save and check it in your broswer.
If you click gs.apple.com and see apples site your not set up correctly.

No no no! That's absolutely wrong! Apple will never start signing a firmware after they stopped. You were able to restore because your phone was probably still pwned. RRRize, you will not be able to restore to anything but stock 3.1.3. You will lose your unlock and won't be able to use the phone with tmobile. Your phone has to be pwned in order to restore to a custom firmware. You will have to wait because you can't downgrade, or restore to a custom fw. Like I said you can sell the phone, switch to AT&T. Or get a prepaid plan with AT&T. There is nothing you can do now to use that phone on tmobile. You didn't research before you acted and now you suffer the consequences. Sorry to break it to you, but you're pretty much screwed.

Yes, I did update my host file to 127.0.0.1 gs.apple.com

pcs are junk - You're prolly right but I am going to exhaust all these thigs till I am completely depressed. The thing is the phone was jailbroken when I took it home soI have some small hope that it somehow "remembers" that even though I ERASED ALL CONTENT AND SETTINGS.

Okay... wow! I swapped USB cables (I have 2 iPhone USB cables) and I tried the restore again and instead of giving me that 1600 error immediately (as is usual) I had a progress bar window (with the candy cane movement) up for like 5 minutes!! That has NEVER happened before. But alas, it eventually ended with a 1602 error. 1602 error, not 1600. I've never had anything other than a 1600 error. Does this mean anything to any of you guys?

If you got that far its starting to rewrite your NAND memory,,, thats exactky how mine started ,.... and then it eventually wrote it all after many attempts... each with more progress.
