I've been looking at the Inateck 4004 but on the Amazon website it clearly states that it's supported until 10.9.5. Does it work with Yosemite and El Capitan?

Guaranteed by me and all others who have it :)
The company says so, so they can "cover their butts" in case Apple removes the support. But since Apple uses the same chip to it's Macs, then this won't happen anytime soon.

I suggest to go ahead and get it ;) I bought mine last week, until then I was hoping to get a solution for El Capitan for my NEC based chip 4 ports USB3.0 PCIe card that also needed extra power to fully work on HDDs with Yosemite (and patched driver).

So, no hassle now. Plug & play literally.

On Amazon they say about Inateck KT4004: NOT compatible with OS X 10.10 or higher.
And only for Mac Pro version 2008-2012.

So on a Mac Pro 2006 with 10.11, I would not try...

Well I'm on a 1,1 (flashed to 2,1) and using it in El Capitan right now. Why should I lie to you? It's not my company, not my seller and won't get a "thanks" from anyone of them who are selling it.

Go get it from a local store, test it and if it doesn't work (which I doubt), return it.

BTW, Apple also says that Mac Pro 1,1 works up to 10.7.5 and with 16GB of RAM max.
Why are you on El Capitan then?
Why you can install 32GB of RAM on your Mac?

Hi, Thanks for the info, my 3 rear USB's seem to be failing, and I am using a USB hub plugged into my Mac keyboard, I am considering updating my graphics card a Radeon 5770, when I play back stuff recorded with my Eye TV Sat Free Box the fans kick in and make a racket, I would appreciate any advice on what to get as a replacement.

Thanks in advance

these were their original supported specs. there are macbook pros that "max out" at 2gb but people have run them just fine with 3 or 4 gb. it's all about what the OS and CPU support.

my mac pro is using CPUs out of a Dell Server, all I did was pop them in. got them from ebay. using ram from amazon.com - also not supported, but 32gb recognized just fine. for most tasks, this mac pro outperforms my 3ghz AMD setup and my old macbook dual-core i5.

Exactly!

Inateck also claims full support up to 10.9.5 while hundreds of users have upgraded last year to Yosemite with no problems and this year to El Capitan with no problems also :) This is the reason I bought it last week and not earlier, wanted to make sure 10.11 support/compatibility.

Just ordered one. Thanks VAGDesign!
Cheers!

BTW, I ordered from the link I gave you on Oct 6 and got it on Oct 9th, 3 days from UK to Greece. That is pretty fast (UPS shipping)

Along with the card, I bought a USB3.0 dock from Inateck -that you can slot in 2x3,5" or 2,5" drives and can clone/copy/backup, very handy alternative to external usb3.0 case- ;)

Until then, either use the built in USB ports or go buy Inateck KT4004 that is on 30% sale from Amazon.co.uk.
The other good about this card is that doesn't requires extra power ;)

+1 I have the same exact card.... on a Mac Pro 1.1
Matter of fact I installed El Capitan with the USB 3.0 card installed with no issues or problems at all. The only issues with the card is that you will not be able to boot from the USB 3.0 cards itself. So if you backup to a USB 3.0 external hard drive and need to reboot from your cloned drive you will not be able to do so from the USB 3.0 ports you will have to use the onboard USB 2.0 ports.

Hi all. First, huge thanks to all the stalwarts here who are helping us keep our machines completely up to date — fantastic work guys, and much appreciated.

Just a report on an issue I had getting the El Capitan 10.11 release installed on my MP 1,1.

I made a USB installer following the Hennessie method, exactly as I did successfully with Yosemite previously but using the official 10.11 installer. But, I couldn't get it to boot the mac. It wasn't visible in the Startup Disk pref pane and holding C at boot didn't work. I have unflashed PC Radeon 5770 graphics so no boot screen option. This was all done from my Yosemite system. I was ready to give up and wait until I could borrow a supported mac.

Then, I booted into an old El Capitan beta partition (installed using firewire target disk mode on the borrowed, but not currently available, supported MacBook Pro) and, lo and behold, the USB installer was now available in the El Cap beta Startup Disk pref pane. From there, I rebooted to the USB installer and El Capitan 10.11 installed like a breeze. I swapped the 3 boot.efi instances while in the Yosemite system and I'm now typing this in a brand new 10.11 install.

The reason is the driver I think. It loads while booting on OS X, not prior of that. Maybe with a "hack" you can load it let's say on 10.10.5 or 10.11 installer (integrated within the boot drive/stick). But this doesn't bother me. It's not a lot of time to Install from USB 2.0 (~14min) and also this ain't happening often.

I have the same issue as stated above. I have made 3 different installers using 3 different USB HDDs and USB jump drives. My previous Mavericks and Yosemite installers are recognized by the MacPro 1,1. The installers I created are also recognized on other machines. Is there an issue with the MacPro or is it an issue with my "Install OS X El Capitan" version ? Has anyone else had this issue?

SUCCESS!! I was able to get mine upgraded. I just used my wife's MacMini for the OS install and did the traditional "tried and true" upgrade method. Everything worked without issues. I pulled the SSD out of my MacPro and hooked to the Mini with a USB drive caddy. Once installed I replaced the boot.efi files in the correct places and viola´10.11 on my 1,1. Question, is the Piker Alpha app to keep updates from wiping out the install still available or would it not be needed as I did an upgrade ?

Hopefully someone will update the YoseFix package to include latest boot.efi.

Otherwise you may need to replace after future updates. But as you saw, not that difficult, at all.

I installed El Capitan on a Mac Pro 1,1 by mounting the disk (with Yosemite installed) in Target Disk mode on a MacBook Pro and replacing the Boot.efi files.
Now when shutting down the Mac, the disks power down but the system always reboots after a few seconds.
I tried to disconnect all usb and ethernet cables, but this behavior stays the same, the Mac can only be shut down by holding the on/off switch.
I never had such a problem with any OS X version before.
Any ideas?

Edit:
It turned out that a USB 3 card prevents the mac from shutting down when running El Capitan. I will try another one.

Status Update:

The next update to boot.efi will include:

1.) Installer Detection (done/confirmed working).
- One copy of boot.efi can be used in all locations (disables SIP for installation folders).

2.) Kernel patcher (done/confirmed working).
- This allows kexts to load without a prelinkedkernel.

3.) SMBIOS board-id upgrade (work in progress/confirmed working).
- This changes the board-id of your MacPro[1,1/2,1] to that of a MacPro3,1
- Other unsupported Mac models can be added to the list.

The result is that you can download El Capitan from the App Store and launch the installer from the Application folder without the need to mod the DMG's.
