Hello,

Yes, the installer boots and installs Yosemite, when it restarts shows the grey screen with the apple logo, also while using the "Option" key on start up I can see several partitions but I can't access none of them, selecting any option takes me to the grey screen with the apple logo.

Thanks.

It's no inconvenience, just trying to figure out what's causing the kp. The installer boots and installs without issue?

If there is an update released for yosemite would I be able to update my mac pro with the modified boot loader?

Yes but if the update also updates the boot.efi then your machine won't boot. There is a script by user TobyG that works for Mavericks and will also work for Yosemite with a quick modification after install and before restarting. I went over it the other day so just read back a few pages or search for post made by me and it is all explained

Does apple usually update the Boot.efi or is it rare for them to do it? what would i have to do with the script that TobyG has?

10.9.2 updated it but I think that was the only one. Please search for my post. I went through it step by step already.

Okay I will look for it, could you tell me what to search for. I really appreciate all your help also everything seems to be working out fine with my Mac pro and Yosemite as of now. The only thing right now that I'm scared of now is updating it.

You can search the thread by poster. Search for post by me in this thread and perhaps the keyword "tobyg".

Hello, I have a Mac Pro 1,1 that I have been working on updating. I tried the Sfott method and the chameleon method but neither seemed to work. I finally found the Hennesie2000 method outlined here. I got the closest so far, but still no final download. I followed all the Hennesie instructions. I got to the install Yosemite icon. When I clicked on it, it appeared to start loading, but then I got the following message: "To download and restore OSX, your computer's eligibility will be verified with Apple." When I clicked OK, the message stated "Could not find installation information for this machine. Contact AppleCare."
Any suggestions?? Thank you for all your effort in this regard.

Slightly off topic, but I've got a quick question:

Are there any advantages to upgrading my 1,1 to 2,1 with the firmware upgrade from Netkas, other than if I want to put quad cores in?

Thanks.

Nope.

Well, maybe the smug-happy-satisfied feeling you get when you pull up System Information and see newer firmware. ;)

The main changes appear to be Intel's microcode updates for 2007 Intel CPUs, like the 3GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon "Clovertown" X5365.

Thanks.

I had better Geekbench 3 scores with the 2,1 firmware. It is worth the upgrade in my opinion.

When are you clicking on this icon? Did you boot to the drive that you created following my instructions?

How much better?

I remember the 64 bit score was under 10k and after the update 10448 with my X5355 upgrade.

Is there a big difference in day to day operation? Probably not much, but why not take advantage of Apple's firmware tweaks to support those processors?

Correct but I think they are asking if it would make a difference with the stock 5150 or 5160 CPUs. Which I don't think it will.

Oops. Sorry about that. I guess I misread that. I assume everyone wants to upgrade those processors! ;)

Everyone probably does but updating the firmware before upgrading the processors won't make a difference with the stock CPUs. You can do it of course but there is no benefit.

Hi,

Installed 14B17 (10.10.1) update, don't know if boot.efi files have been changed since i've used Hennessie's method from #1584

BTW what about your MacPro Hennessie ?

I think I am just going to buy a new PSU... found one online for $80 with a warranty. I was given a 2010 MBP with an i7 and 8GB ram, so I am not in a huge rush to get it fixed. I also have a hackintosh where I am booting the HDD that was in my Mac Pro.

You can always check to see what is being updated by clicking update in the App Store and when it ask you to "Download & Restart" just click "Not Now". It will then download the update package and you can use Pacifist to browse it and see what it is modifying. Look to see if there is a boot.efi in the package at either of the locations.

Are you sure about the PSU failure ? did you test it ?

I get nothing when testing the molex plugs for the ODDs and the "trickle" diagnostic LED does not light up at all. With out that lighting up then it most likely means the PSU is dead. And, without the trickle of power from the PSU then the machine will not begin to start at all like it is doing. I have a friend who works for Mac Medics and he said the symptoms sound like a PSU. I am not 100% positive but I am sure enough.

Ok better PSU than motherboard !

Have you got any paypal account where we can send you some bucks to help you, it's a pity that you have done so much for MAcPro users and you don't have one working !

It won't be a fortune but we are so many that you have helped :)
