one of our 2011 GTX765M upgraded iMac's, with patched mojave install is getting firmware error messages these days.
I dont know why, since I have got kepler vbios beta 3 running from Nick, and the firmware on the eeprom of the logic board is back to the stock latest version.

I thought these firmware error messages would only appear if your bootrom has been modded.. ?
Guess perhaps apple changed something, or I have missed something here.. ?

Seems like the EFI checker, is not liking this iMac afterall.. ?

Oh, thanks for your report. Did you take any photo for the card?

I guess this item is exactly on this eBay page:
Ebay - AMD WX4150 (109-c98581-00_02) GPU Card

Chris Rual David Maitin, I Thank you. I am waiting for more results of how stable is AMD WX4150
Looks like the the AMD WX4150 with model "109-c98581-00_02" is working.
There're a lot of card with "109-c98581-00D_02" model which many of them are new.
but yours working is "109-c98581-00_02" model card. without D letter.

My Computer; iMac 21.5" (2011) i5 2.5Ghz with AMD 6750M 512GB.

It's not that simple actually - we already had tested models with the same ID but not all of them were equally populated. Some worked in only some iMac models, some made the system run unstable - even when they had the same ID and seemed to be populated identically. All of them worked well in non-iMac machines.

So is it safer to go with the old K3100M/K2100M than gambling with the new WX4150?

I've read your past posts and checked (Post #6,543) did you exactly test a Green Card GPU Dell WX4150 109-C98581-00_02 on iMac 2011 21.5"? 🧐

because you were saying "HP PCB labelled 109-C98581-00_02, suggesting the D is for Dell." so you were talking about a HP WX4150 with 109-C98581-00_02 that didn't work.... even highvoltage12v did tested a blue HP GPU 109-C98581-00_02 which didn't work!
but Chris Rual David Maitin, has tested a green dell GPU with model 109-c98581-00_02.

if you did exactly what Chris Rual David Maitin did, like Green coloured GPU Dell model 109-c98581-00_02 WX4150..... then we're doing chances!!

Testing was done behind the scenes, in order to prevent people from massively buying cards that won't work in their machines.

Not working in any machine so far is the HP 109-C98581-10_02; that board has a white HP label on the PCB.
All 109-C98581-00_02 or 109-C98581-00D_02 boards were working in the 2009 and 2010 iMacs - but one such board would make the iMac run unstable (while it worked without problems in a non-Apple machine). Those were HP and Dell boards, all of them with a white AMD label on the PCB.

However, I can't guarantee my statements to be entirely correct.

Now that I got the K4100M installed and working along with Mojave, I just wanted to report a couple of observations:

  • Pressing CMD-F2, did enter Target Display Mode and it appeared to be working fine - at full brightness
  • Pressing CMD-F2 again did not exit Target Display Mode. I had to unplug the cable to end it.
  • While in Target Display Mode, pressing the brightness on the other computer would control the brightness on the iMac. Now it only controls the brightness on the other machine. Looks like Target Display Mode is limited to full brightness at this point. Is there something I can use to reduce the brightness while only in Target Display Mode?

This is really interested to hear. Target display mode is the most important feature to me as I use my iMac as a display for my work laptop (pretty much constantly now). My current card works so I've been holding off to see what the most powerful card (with target display) will be when updates stop rolling out. I'll probably use high sierra for target dipslay and Mohave for person use. The info on page 1 doesn't reflect Target Display Mode working with this card. I wonder if it works with all the listed Quadro cards?

are you sure 1 this is a quadro K5100M and 2 this is a Dell CG?

Of course, I know you good people try to make best possible things without wasting cash for you and people. and I'm thankfully for that. 😇
from what've read in past posts, the iMac 2011 hasn't really been tested (am I wrong?) with these two cards (Dell's 109-C98581-00_02 and 109-C98581-00D_02) but you people did for 2009 and 2010 iMacs.
I ask that this text mentions to which model number in first page wiki?: 🤨
"These WX 4130/4150 are not detected by the 2011 iMacs for unknown reason, and therefore are currently incompatible"
I count on Chris Rual David Maitin for the results.....

I wonder why we are talking about 2009 and 2010 iMac? this thread subject is "2011 iMac Graphics Card Upgrade" 😜 at least change the year.....

All you agree is that Blue HP 109-c98581-10-02 does not work.
Did you had or tested 109-C98581-00D_02 (with D letter) on your 2011 iMac? for confirmation just.
Please don't forget to take pictures both sides of GPU Card, with described iMac's specification.
Thanks again! 🙂

from my research if you search WX4150 with 109-c9851-00_02 GPU model are only green..... not seen blue 109-c9851-00_02, which makes easier to find out with carefully not to mistake with D Letter 109-c9851-00D_02 or different numbers.

There are few other 109-c9851-00_02 GPU on AliExpress, one example Link: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4000307284366.html
wonder what is 2G and 4G cable length for this item? 😟 or 2GB and 4GB? 😝

Hi Guys.

First post.

This thread and the work done here is some of the most impressive I've seen in a long time.
It's not easy working on undocumented and unsupported bios mods I'm sure. Thank you for your hard work.

I just fixed up a broken 27" iMac late 2009. Had to replace the logic board as it was rebooting after 2 minutes of runtime. I also upgraded the CPU to an i7 860 now. Memory up to 20gb. And an SSD. Cleaned out the cobwebs inside and she's running fast as can be! It feels good to be able to reclaim and recycle older tech that is still so elegant. These older machines ability to be upgraded (memory, cpu, gpu) are much preferred over the newer soldered on memory Apple is going towards these last few years. One more reason I've stopped buying and refuse to buy newer macs that are limited in this way. Us old school guys just consider it an insult to pay so much for a bit more memory, etc.

Anyway, two weeks ago I ordered a K3000m (N12E-Q1-A1) before the ROM was pulled. I didn't download the ROM at the time unfortunately. So for now it seems I will have to wait patiently.

But I have the card in hand now as of yesterday so I'm a willing beta tester for you @nikey22 if you're in search of additional beta testers. Or if someone wants to send me the originally posted ROM. I intend to use the @xanderon method of flashing it as it seems the most streamlined method out there yet. Thank you to you both for sharing the fruits of your skill set. I for one am supremely grateful. I look forward to getting dark mode going on this via Mojave.

In the meantime I have been reading this entire thread for several weeks now and will continue to as there's a lot to wrap your head around on the fine details of each card and setup limits/requirements. It's all very fascinating though.

Anyway, thank you to the research scientists among us. I'd love to build the skills to be able to contribute, so I'm interested in any resources that could train me up in the most optimal way. If you know of any PM them over. I'll be on the hunt for more knowledge on my own regardless.

Thanks everyone.

This different size no error! Ignore it. The cause has been explained here several times. Just use the search button to find it yourself.
The mismatch is probably one. Since you have a used card you may always encounter problems with (half) broken cards. We cannot help with this.
