Apologies for double posting, the replacement for the failed K3100m arrived - reporting another successful Alienware 780m install. Black screen when attempting to boot windows so that's another hurdle but everything else seems to be working fine - idling at 36 degs. Haven't done any heat sync modification, if it runs a bit hot I might follow Mr-Mur's excellent guide for how to do a dyi cooling solution.
I think the best way to cool GPU is using mxm extension cable extend to outside and let whole graphic card under linquid.

After installing an gtx 770m and patching mojave on an ssd over a MacBook my iMac doesnt start. Two LEDs are on. With high sierra everything is fine. Any idear?

When runing the dosdude1 mojave patcher, make sure you deselect the legacy video patcher when running a metal card.
As far as i know you cannot undo this patch, you need to reinstall mojave and patch it again, without legacy video card patcher..

Hope this helps..

Ok, what am I missing here? I have a 2011, 27". My stock GPU has been baked 3 times now, so I bought a k2000m to replace it. I don't expect the radeon will last much long.

While using the radeon, I installed Catalina with the dosdude patcher, did the post install, didn't change any of the default options.

I also installed the latest CUDA drivers from Nvidia before inserting the k2000m.

Chime, disk noises, but No video. 1st and 2nd diagnostic LEDs light up. Have tried safe mode, holding Option, recovery, etc. Nothing.

What else could be preventing the nvidia card from working?

At some point while troubleshooting my flaky radeon, I vaguely recall deleting a few AMD kexts, but that was before upgrading to Catalina.

Also, don't believe it makes a difference, but Filevault is enabled on a fusion drive.

Help, this sucks!
i recently upgraded to an nvidia card. i have had the same issue Led 3 and 4 were off but i have display on my screen. No idea why it happens but they work. it takes a while for the display to turn on in comparison to the AMD default card. does your computer boot when your turn ? do you get the chime and the fans run and the Hard disk runs ? if so everything works. you probably have to wait a bit for the display to turn on .if not the GPU is the issue. iam not sure but i have high sierra and mojave and it works fine with an 860m card

have you connected the display and checked. its possible that display works but led 3 and 4 are blacked out . i dont know the reason but it happened to me with 860m. i suspect its the same

HI GUYS, I found our iMac 2011 intel GPU still actives when OS running, is it anyway to let system find it ?

I think Led 3 and 4 will never work withouth the original AMD card.
We have to live without them I think..
No problem for me btw

The iGPU can also be used an seen in video tools.
For as far as I can remember tools like handbrake can use the intel iGPU and I think FCPX will also be able to use it..
And many others I think.

Anyone has experience setting up Mojave on an APFS Raid-0? Installing on a MacOS Extended is fine, however you won't get system updates without APFS. I tried cloning my Mojave install, converting the drive to APFS and cloning it back, but it just crashes when it boots.

Thanks for the info. I figured the other 2 LEDs might not light up. It chimes and makes drive noises, I've waited a long time, nothing. No noises if I try pressing volume buttons or anything like that. Also, if I hold shift to go to safe mode, it just shuts off.

I popped the original card back in and it works without issue... for now. Has already been baked 3 times.
[doublepost=1564255176][/doublepost]Does the 27" iMac not work with the k2000m? I know it's an MXM-a card, but seems like it worked for others.

Ok, so I was wrong. Pressing the volume keys does cause macos to make the default sounds. But still no video.

It looks like everything works as expected. Have you tried booting from an older Mac OS version. I can only think of OS being incompatible here

This could be a gpu and OS compatible issue as no one knows if it works with. Catalina

Holy crikey! I got it working.

I had to turn on VoiceOver to get into the Sharing preferences because I'm a dope and forgot to enable screen sharing after the last reinstall.

Turned that on, then was able to see my screen from my other Mac. I could see that the graphics card was recognized properly, but the display resolution was wrong.

I followed the instructions from the very first post to get the board ID and paste it into the AppleGraphicsControl kext. Didn't do it in safe mode, but it didn't matter.

Restarted the computer and boom!

yes, the final cut can use iGPU, I have test it. However, it is a good news for us that means we can use the desktop GPU by the MXM to PCIE x16 converter.

quadro k2000m should work in 27", but it's heatsink is not designed for smaller MXM-B cards.
But it should work fine I presume.
I think some other users here, have also done this already..

Hello, I have an Imac 27 inches from 2011 I changed my video card with a GTX 765m board. Everything is ok just that the fans have gone crazy working to the fullest. Also, if I do not log in after the boot they do not even start, somebody can help me, thank you.

Maybe a temp sensor cable did got broken or not connecter the right way, after dis or reassambly of the iMac.
As far as I can remember i have not experienced any fan problems upgrading multiple iMac’s already with gtx765M cards..

You can perhaps run tools like macfancontrol, and check the sensor temps.
Usually if a temp is set to 129 degrees celcius.
This way you know the sensor is not working correcty, and the fans can go crazy....

I installed the mac fan control application, so it works, just wanted to know why changing the fan speed changed when changing the video card. And I still have a question as to how reliable the GTX765M video card is?

Can you check which sensor reads 129C in Macs Fan Control? Maybe you forget to connect the GPU heatsink sensor back to the motherboard(next to the mxm slot) when you replaced the card?

As reliability, it sure as hell more reliable than the crappy 6 series ati...

These keplar cards are fine, i would not worry about it going to die again like those crappy amd cards..

Nvidia learned it's lesson in the past I would say, since the geforce 8xxx series with their the past.
In my opinion shame amd ber made a revised chip for their 6xxx series.

here are my fan values

Hm, interesting, it looks normal. However i would not recommend setting the fans to ambient temp. Set the cpu to cpu heatsink or cpu core 1, odd to gpu heatsink and hdd fan to your ssd or hdd installed in the middle of the imac

Hey guys,

I've replaced my baked card with a gtx 780m from a Dell/Alienware laptop. Before i did that, the computer was running but now I got nothing.

At first, the diagnostic led #1 would be on, but when i pressed the power button it would turn off until unplugged the machine from the wall.

Then I removed the CMOS battery to see if reinserting it would have any effect.

But, I think i made the problem worse.

Now, when I plug the iMac to the power diagnostic led #1 turns on, but it turns OFF in a second.

Tomorrow I will replace the CMOS battery with a new one, and remove the new gpu and see if I can get it to run again with the old gpu.

I would appreciate any help!

Sounds like a dead gpu, or you just have a short somewhere. The mounting bracket, or something is touching the heatsink? Try removing the heatsink and mounting bracket and just hold the card in place with your fingers to see if it boots up. It should boot without a battery and screen attached too(listen to the boot sound)

Thank you very much and what values should i take?
