Opinions on the new Halo mounted mirrors on the Ferrari’s?
Didn't they get banned? From an aesthetics point of view I'm not a fan of the halo in any way.
[doublepost=1527140066][/doublepost]And let's be honest. They might as well remove the mirrors at Monaco. It's not like they have to worry about people trying to pass!

Thought that they were banned. Did they come up with some new ones?

Apparently. They will be in the race. Slight modification to the Halo as well. The FIA signed off on this. :apple:

smart move?

Not sure. I disagree with opinions that the mirrors are irrelevant at Monaco. If anything you are in your mirrors more at Monoco than most.

From an aero point it could be to assist in flow direction to the rear wing IMO. I don’t see any loss of drag from this. :apple:

Red bull looked racey in practice. Especially Ricardo.
Of course you never really know until qualifying starts.

Yes, they certainly did. The engine upgrade in Spain seems to be maturing. It's great to see a team putting it all out there ever P Session. Mercedes and Ferrari are too busy playing Sandbag Psychology.
Would love to see Daniel win. Highly unlikely Mad Max will finish the race. :apple:

I think only Renault and McLaren got a fuel upgrade for Spain and Renault's first powertrain update isn't due until Canada.

Renault are still running with their 2016 MGU-K (energy harvesting/deployment unit) and the update keeps getting delayed. Optimistically once this delivered it will make a big difference and leave very little between Ferrari/Mercedes/Renault (with Honda a little way back). Pessimistically it may never see the light of day given delay after delay.

Just as long as Max doesn't take out Daniel on his trip to the wall.

Apparently Max couldn't wait for qualifying to put it in the wall. He's binned it in fp 3.

They might get it ready in time though.
Should they just hand the points out today and skip the race?

So interesting with Max in Monaco.. how many times has he crashed at turn 1... in FP2 he almost binned it, and then eventually he did in FP3. I'd think that because he lives there that he would bring more focus. Hopefully his car is repaired for qualy.

Woke up to watch the pre show for Monaco, always great stories and footage!

They showed his almost identical crash from 2016. I bet it's not his last of the weekend. Well his or Grosjean's!

The skill of a master with the skill management set of a 10 year old. It's not going to change. Too many other very talented youngsters ready to come up that don't have his lack of intelligence. We will see what great talent can do with Leclerc in the Prancing Horse next year. It's a done deal. Like Seb said when asked, "just look at his passport." IE: look how often he is in Maranello.

He deserves it. But I'm not sure it's all decided yet.
[doublepost=1527339647][/doublepost]Even if the mechanics get Max ready in time he is going to have a 5 place grid penalty for a gearbox charge.
Daniel must be gutted!

Amazing to think that Senna's Pole Lap from 20 years ago - still probably the greatest qualifying lap ever performed - was over 13 seconds slower than Daniel's today.
Did you see the historical cars? They looked so slow compared to today's. Some of that is to do with no incar footage, but still. 13 seconds is forever in F1.

Yeah all the aero downforce now plants the cars so hard it looks like they ride on rails. Watching the in-car of Senna just man-handling that turbo Honda between the walls was magical, in comparison.

That’s what is was. The MP4/4 with the Honda RA168 was a monster. The 1,000hp was like a light switch. All those 1.5L Turbos were like that. Tech like progressive, variable, and smaller can be better we’re still waiting to be unhatched. It really is mind bending how far Turbocharger Technology have developed since then.

Although nothing today can can match the visceral experience of the Ferrari F310 V-10 from 97 IMO. :apple:
