The one I bought after this met the same fate too, but in a different way, and the cycle repeats
Edit: And to clarify, they introduced a bug in High Sierra, which made the Nvidia GPU at the time work near 100% capacity whenever you had an external screen connected, sounds similar doesn't it, Apple's forums were flooded with issues reported, yet they let it be for months
