So I got my new iPad Pro 12.9 on Friday. I’ve really enjoyed using it up until tonight when I though I’d do some work in bed and stream some shows on Disney +.

The blooming is extrmely noticeable and distracting, at medium brightness, at low brightness, any brIghtness. Intrestingly its very apparent around the trackpad cursor too, when I move the cursor around a large block of light surrounds the cursor and moves around with it. Anyway I’ve attached some photos if anyone is interested. These do actually represent what I’m seeing, only slightly exaggerated. I’m on 14.5.1.View attachment 1779777
Does it actually look that bad with the naked eye? Or is the photo making it look worse?

That's completely unacceptable if it's really that bad.

Like many others have said, as soon as you take a photo or video of the screen it blows the whites out and makes it look way worse than it really is.

Do people actually notice this shadow 24/7? haven’t gone looking for it again since I heard about it here, neither does it come into my field of view when I’m using my iPad, the shadow/line, whatever you want to call it is that thin it’s barely noticeable, makes it a total non issue in my opinion.

If it bothers you that much, return it or don’t go looking for it and enjoy your mini led M1 beast of a machine.

It’s got to the point where I’m looking for it and simply can’t find it. Not to say this is real and that my device doesn’t have it but not really tested it in all lighting conditions.

Personally I instantly noticed the edge shadowing as soon as I turned on the iPad Pro, it is noticeable 100% and found myself constantly looking at it.

If it wasn’t for the imperfections on the back of mine I probably would have kept it, but unfortunately I am returning it, and probably will try and avoid miniLED on future products if I can until the tech has matured a bit.

I personally preferred the look of the standard retina LCD on the 2020 version.

Got to do what’s best for you, I know there’s rumours of OLED on next years air that might be your best bet as I know apple seem like they are planning mini led on other products plus the new macs

I don’t notice the shadows so much, but, after using Illustrator in landscape mode, I’ve noticed a yellow hue in the bottom left part of the screen. It seems to get worse over time :( Here is a screenshot:

My conclusion (and I tested all your complaints): Definitely the best display at a mobile device which is capable of serious editing features (therefore I don't own any Android tablets because of the lacking software...).

Just go for it.
Spot on 😊

In a dark room at 30% brightness it looks exactly like the picture below to my eyes. But it seems that there are huge differences in perception, so everybody has to look and decide for themselves.

Just tired what you did at even higher brightness 40%, then lower brightness, doesn’t look nowhere near as bad as that, hardly any blooming, not even that noticeable.

your camera is making it look worse than it is.

I’d advise starting a new thread :)

Regarding the dimmed edges: it’s an issue with every MiniLED display, including the Pro Display XDR. It was discussed on ATP:

If this is an issue in device that costs 5000-6000€ and this has to be know by Apple before finalising 12.9 design, it's an issue that will not be solved anytime soon in Mini-Led.

Here are the screenshots from HDTVtest youtube channel that compares the Pro Display XDR to the HX310

You can clearly see that
A) Blooming is still "a problem"
B) There are shadows on the edges.

No the camera does not make ist worse. Look at the picture, the exposure is perfect. The colors in the color palette are perfectly. I can even see blooming at 10% brightness. Why should I lie? But it really seems that there are huge differences in perception and that is the reason why everybody has to look and decide for themselves.

Not another yellow screen thread 🤦‍♂️ Haven’t we had enough of them in the iPhone forum 🤦‍♂️😂
Sorry bud, I thought I was seeing things last night, so asked the other half this morning.

She pointed directly to where my yellow tint was on my screen, without me showing her beforehand.

Box is all packaged up and off to Aberdeen for a new unit

99% of the people on here have said the camera is making this issue way worse than it is, I did the exact same test you did and like I said it was nowhere near as bad as that.

it‘s absolutely the camera 100%, or you have a faulty device

sounds like a part of your screen might be faulty, hopefully the next iPad doesn’t have the same issue.

You have to be patient and let the glue dry.

Kidding aside, those never go away and seem to be caused by heat as it happens on other devices even non-Apple. Have you noticed your device running hot?

Trying to understand some people with their need to sit in a room with no lights and let their eyes get tortured with bright white on black background looking for blooming. I can see some on my iPad when I am looking for it but when I stop doing that and enjoy my iPad in everything I actually do use it for, then I do not notice the blooming or the shadow edge which I never noticed when I first started up the iPad.

Seriously some must really like to find problems. Can we get answers from those who is just using their iPad like normal and not focus on white blahs on black background and in a dark room every day??

Well I’m off to enjoy my iPad even more without trying to find any problems. 😊😊
