But only the preconfigured versions... right? Anyone wanting more memory or a larger hard drive have to order.

My guess would be that non-Apple retailers get to stock whatever they think will sell. Apple will, after all, have stocks of all models from which to directly ship to customers or push out to their own retail stores.

i think the Blue models are the popular one this time around

Blue and Green seem to be the most popular with Blue seeming to be #1 in popularity. Which is crazy because I originally tried to order a Green one and it was saying my delivery date would be June 22-27th or whatever. But doing the same specs for a blue one I was able to get May 21st-27th.

On a totally different note. My blue iMac is still sitting in preparing to ship status. Getting antsy over here lol.

Los Angeles
I am in Los Angeles County too,
What status is yours ?

Mine just updated this morning to: PREPARING TO SHIP

My Yellow iMac has just moved from Processing to Preparing to Ship in the last 30 minutes. I've been waiting anxiously as i've seen everyone else's shift. USA here (MN). Configuration below for reference....I upgraded memory and SSD and bought both the Magic Mouse and Trackpad because I wanted color matched.

Hardware:

  • Apple M1 chip with 8-core CPU with 4 performance cores and 4 efficiency cores, 8-core GPU, and 16-core Neural Engine
  • 16GB unified memory
  • Gigabit Ethernet
  • Two Thunderbolt / USB 4 ports
  • Two USB 3 ports
  • 1TB SSD storage
  • Magic Mouse + Magic Trackpad
  • Magic Keyboard with Touch ID - US English
  • Accessory Kit

Mine finally changed within the last hour or so to Preparing for Shipping (to Virginia)!

24-inch Green iMac with 4.5K Retina display

I ordered Blue/516GB/16RAM late morning on the 30th (I canceled a previous order to get the full keyboard with numeric pad). Mine went to “preparing to ship” yesterday around 1PM EST, but no movement since. Delivering to New York.

I had my confirmation of order email through 5 minutes after orders went live but was still given 27th May - 3rd June delivery and then the app settled on 3rd June. Not sure why my delivery date was later than others for such an early order but maybe because I got a popular blue with a non-standard configuration (blue, 8 core gpu/ 16gb RAM/ 1tb with trackpad). Hoping it’ll come before 3rd of June but not convinced it will! Pretty geekily excited though! 🤓
Edit: UK order by the way

Had a couple of fails with the app at first, then switched to the website. Yellow iMac kept disappearing from cart on the site so went back to the app and boom the transaction was smooth as butter. Super excited for my first iMac! Did you have any problems ordering and which iMac did you get?

Yellow 16 / 1tb

Whew! Finally received my preparing for shipment notice! Woot woot!

early order like you – UK, blue, same config: 3rd June

Apparently, it seems, if you check your Apple Store app two or three times an hour, it doesn't actually change your delivery date. At least, that's been my experience so far, but I'll keep exploring that possibility just in case if it turns out I'm wrong 🤞

What does this even mean?

Yeah, I remember doing this once. Made no difference at all how frequently I checked, yet, it still arrived on the designated day.
