Had the same thing happen to me when the iPhone 12 was launched - mine was pre-ordered weeks in advance but didn't arrive on launch day when others have.

So on launch day, I went online to the Apple Store and paid for another exact identical iPhone and picked it up the same day.

Then 2 weeks later, the iPhone shows up and I had to return it.
Might just do that. I’m praying that they have a 16gb model in stock but if not no biggie. I’ve seen a lot of people say 8GB is sufficient enough and I’m not really a hardcore user so I’ll settle with that. Ive got a 16gb coming mid June and if apple graciously allow me to extend my returns period seeing as it was them that cancelled my original order, then I’ll do that.

Fingers crossed they have the Trackpad in the colours as well.

Very possible - I have seen Apple pull a device from their local warehouse, have it delivered direct to you and skip the China route.

Apple has already earmarked pallets to all their Apple Stores so they stage them at distribution warehouses near them so that on launch day, the Apple Store has them for sale (usually the base units, with some mid tier models).

Case in point:
November 2020, I pre-ordered a base M1 Mac Mini and for weeks it said "Processing" with no tracking number. The day before the public launch day, I saw a tracking number was generated by FED_EX.
Then I noticed the label origin was in Bloomington, California - with an origin: Ontario Airport (California).

Sure enough, FED-EX delivered the Mini the very next day from Bloomington CA to Los Angeles CA on launch day.

I was floored - took me for a surprise as I have never seen delivery origin from CA until I posted on the Mini forum and found out that Apple can pull from their Apple Store inventory to fill an order.
I have NEVER in all my years of being on macrumors and stalking my pre-orders EVER seen someone order IN release week... where the current delivery times are already weeks out.... have their order come on release day. NEVER! I've seen when they are slated for the following week (so this current one the 24th or after) get moved up and delivered on release day....

She has NO chance of having it DELIVERED if she JUST ordered it any time this week with a June or later delivery date. The only way she is getting one this week (or at this point even next week) is to (1) order it online friday when/if there is store pick up stock or (2) go to a store.

Just looked and current preorders are slated to deliver june 10-17. No way are they jumping orders from today or yesterday (or even sat or sun) to this friday. Not.happening.

And they never take from the store stock to send to pre orders. It's been a gripe for years that people who preorder 2-3 weeks out, minutes after pre orders open.... don't get their iMac, iPhone, iPad, etc on release day cuz they missed out by a few minutes but people can walk into a store and get it that day.

I have since done a complete U-turn; my previous favorite Yellow has gone into relegation by virtue of the tri-tone/gold outlook. I was a bit underwhelmed by the Blue and Orange is the current favorite! ?

For those of you who are stressing over the difference in dates between the Apple Store and your delivery service, I can tell you that in previous years, with UPS and FedEx, all devices where that discrepancy existed, were delivered on the date and time UPS or FedEx stated. Trust the delivery folks, they do this for a living.

INTERNATIONAL DATE LINE!

Forgot that when you cross it, you lose or gain a day.
5/18: origin: Shanghai, China
5/18: departed: Incheon, Korea
5/17: arrived: Anchorage, Alaska

At least this UPS shipment is now in the USA !

UPS still says 5/21. :)
Apples says 5/24.
?
Well mine has the same tracking as yours for the SECOND TIME. It arrived in Kentucky 2 days ago only to sit for a day then magically reappear in China and start the journey all over again. Crazy to watch it track again.

My post was meant for the poster saying that it was possible for you to get it.... I didn't want you being hopeful it would come friday. Now it may come earlier than whatever your original deliver date is... but not release day/this week. When I ordered my original apple watch... i had a delivery day for the end of the week after release day and it actually came a few days earlier... however i did not get it on release day as much as i hated waiting!

if you live near an apple store.... just try to order it on friday for store pick up and cancel the other order AFTER you get one in hand!

It's a little disappointing when you think about it that, the majority of us in Europe or the UK for me pre-ordered on the day, but I still have a delivery date of the 14th June and in processing stage still... that's 2 and a bit weeks since they accepted my order, but yet, on Friday you can go into a store and pick one up!

The thrill of receiving it on launch day has kind of killed it, i have never pre-ordered things for this reason...

Is it just me that feels this way or are there others?

one of the iMacs in my order has not shipped yet. i ordered 2 within the first few minutes of orders opening (received my confirmation email at 5:08) and the pink, less popular shipped and is in kentucky. the second, blue... one of the most popular colors... finally got a pending charge on my apple card but still showing processing on apple.
I ordered the high end pink one and added 16gb. I thought I could go in store if it doesn’t arrive but Apple doesn’t even know if they will have any in store Friday.

High end models are hit/miss - mostly miss at Apple Stores because 16GB is generally a CTO/BTO.

Apple Stores generally stocks base and mid tier versions.

Just keep trying all your closest Apple Stores - I had to do that to find an iPhone 12 Pro in blue 256GB - there are 6 Apple Stores within driving distance and luckily the closest one had it in stock.
Paid in full, picked up later that day and the pre-ordered was still 2 weeks out....

Yes, when you pre-order you would think that Apple would make an effort to get it into your hands on launch day.

After all, you are ordering ahead of the public launch!

I was bummed on the iPhone 12 launch (late 2 weeks) but was rejuvenated with the M1 Mini which was delivered on launch day.

Will see if the M1 iMac is delivered on Friday !!!
