Whole crop of M1 iMacs just hit the refurb store. Got a purple 8/8/16/512 for $1591 after a military discount, delivery this Thursday. What's weird is I couldn't find them on apple's own site but refurb.me sent me an email with links and it took me straight to the item.

Here's the link to the refurb.me listings just in case anyone can't see it at Apple either: https://www.refurb.me/refurbished/i...slug=apple-store&availability=sold-out&page=2

Dear all,

Hi, quick question:

How heavy/bulky is the iMac inside its original protection box with handle ?
I'm wondering if travelling (just once) by train for moving house would be completely unthinkable or something that's perfectly doable.

Many thanks for your help!

All the best

In my opinion it's very, very well padded inside the retail box with handle. I don't think the added external shipping box adds much protection.

Thanks, I actually meant using the retail box, not adding the external shipping box.
So what I'm thinking is putting the iMac back in its retail box and carrying it around with the handle, to take the train once while moving house.
How heavy would the retail box be then?

Thanks again

You don't have to wonder. Just watch a unboxing video.
the unboxing video doesn't tell me anything about weight or bulkiness, therefore it's not very useful to me. Much better to ask people who actually bought it and who could give me a first-hand impression...hence my post.

Thanks a lot regardless

Wow, you really need to ask and wait for the answer?
I got the answer from Google in less than a second.

I took mine home on a bus with no issues. I'm about 5'7" and not particularly strong. I've carried much heavier/more awkward things.

I noticed the same thing. Better option for those who don’t want to wait and don’t mind it being refurbished. Me personally I don’t mind, since Apple refurbisheds are practically brand new minus the fancy box it comes in.

This is my first time buying from the refurbished store, I’m excited to see it tomorrow if it arrives on schedule and everything. I’ll probably post some photos here to show the refurb quality

The weight on the label on the outer shipping box is 12.58 kg

Got my purple refurb in yesterday and wow it was brand new. All plastic wrapping, packaging, and everything was identical to the retail unboxing outside of the actual box itself.

I took a screenshot of my serial number to the apple store and they sold me a purple trackpad as a service request too! $139 after tax. So now I’ve got the full set and didn’t even pay close to retail, I’m very happy.

Wait. This is an option? I was considering a refurb but was told that you couldn't get the trackpad unless you bought it at the same time as the iMac (which obviously isn't an option in the refurb store).

Yeah! I went into the apple store and told them I bought a refurb but wanted the trackpad and they gave me two options:

- Keep the mouse and pay $129 for the trackpad

- Give them the mouse and they process it as a no-receipt return and sell me the trackpad for the difference

Someone mentioned they went to apple store and told them the situation. They were able to get the trackpad like they wanted.

Yeah i tried that today . No luck. So now im trying the chat a few times see if i can get lucky

That’s too bad. Seems like something they should easily due since you already own the system. I want to do the same thing, but i have a silver iMac. Im not sure if that’s any different color wise over what they sell separately for 129?

The $129 trackpad is identical to the one that would ship with the silver one, so you're in a good position!

Was able to get the blue trackpad ordered tonight.. it has to be done through support not sales. Cause the only way it can be ordered is through a replacement. And you probably have to explain this to supprt like i did cause they had no clue until i did.
