But they did predict it when they told you the delivery time wouldn’t change! I’d be fuming! ?
Yup. Unfortunately nothing else I can do. I’ve got the 256/8 arriving on the 27th so guess I’ll have to stick with that. Not sure whether to go ahead with the 256/16 version now if it’s mid June delivery times. For someone who’s just gonna use it for normal browsing, streaming, a bit of photoshop and slack with some Football Manager, is 16gb ram worth the extra £200? Baring in mind I probably won’t use it as much as.

Seeing as the wonderful people at apple decided to cancel my 256/16b iMac, had to reorder it again. Went for same config but added the Magic Trackpad as well. Delivery coming June 22nd. Will just use the base iMac I receive on the 27th May until the new one arrives.

Curious are you going from a 27-inch to the 24? Or 21 to 24?

Downsizing from a 27. In reality the amount of real estate on the desktop won't be changing a whole lot, but one gain of the 24-inch is that the top of the screen will sit a couple of inches lower, thus a little less vertical wear and tear each day on my neck. And I could do with a tiny bit more space on my desk too.

The 27 will then become my working-from-home workstation, so it won't be going to waste.

Exactly this. If I spec the mini how I want it and factor in the cost of a comparable display and peripherals (I haven’t owned a desktop in a long time and would be starting from scratch), the price difference isn’t even that big. Add in weird compatibility and bluetooth issues people have been experiencing and it winds up not being worth the potential frustration.

I’m at the point in my life where I don’t feel compelled to do any tinkering- I just want to boot up and go. That’s the biggest appeal of an all-in-one.
So, true ... age changes us ... and our expectations. (And, I let the Watch 'boot' my sleeping screen.)

Based on my M1 Mini experience the past 6 months, no you don't need the 16GB.

If you want to eventually future proof it longer or start editing 4K / 8K video then the 16GB would be a good reason.

8GB runs just fine for what I do on my M1 Mini: (20+ tabs x 3 browsers), dual displays (WQHD + 4K), USB Superdrive DVD burn/read DL discs, photo & video/audio edit (Adobe CC), Soundblaster DAC, external dual TB1 1TB SSD, and wired ethernet.
All that and it runs cold (fan never spins up), snappy app opening, no more spinning beach ball, etc...

That's why I ordered the base iMac 8GB/256GB w/ Ethernet & full size keyboard options along with the EDU Pro Apps Bundle.

Comparing 2 M1 machines, I am going to try the Final Cut Pro and Logic Pro on the iMac and watching how their native apps work with the M1 iMac compared to my Mini.

21 to 24 ... and trading in the 21.
Actually, I think it is 21.5 to 23.5 inch ... but I understand the use of nominal labeling. The iMac is larger but when you talk about diagonal measure it is actually only two inches larger than 21.5. Though, the reduction in bezel size may make the screen appear larger, the overall frontal area is only fractionally bigger. People may be surprised when they arrive at how 'small' the 24 inch actually looks. Those Apple pictures of people sitting at the colorful new machines may make them seem bigger ... or, maybe, the people are smaller.

My orange iMac G3 is my favorite Mac ever, so it felt only right to order the 24-inch iMac in orange.

I ordered:

16GB unified memory
256GB SSD storage
AppleCare+
Delivers: May 21 - May 27 by Standard Delivery

More RAM was a must, but I decided against more storage since this will be a secondary Mac. I used to always go for more, but since bootcamp is no longer an option and I tend to stream music now (instead of storing my large music collection locally), I can get by with less. So excited for color back in the iMac line! I do wish the orange wasn't limited to the higher tier model though...

Ah, interesting consideration, I wouldn't mind a bigger screen, but having the top be too high up is not good. I didn't feel the 27 was too high up when I played with a 27 iMac 1.5 years ago, but an iMac that's larger than 30 inches might cause that issue. If the bigger iMac was available at the same time as the 24, I would have ordered the bigger one, but with no announcement of when the bigger iMac will be released, I decided I couldn't wait and just ordered a 24 iMac.

Curious are those ordering going from a 27-inch to the 24? Or 21 to 24? Or brand new to the world of iMac?

This is my first iMac. I have owned two (2) Apple laptops over the previous 13 years. First was a 2008 13-inch MacBook (the first aluminum unibody one). The second was a late 2013 15-inch MacBook Pro, which I am still using now.

Both served me really well, but they mostly stayed on my desk, which is why I wanted to get an iMac instead this time. I have a 12.9 3rd generation iPad Pro which is what I use away from my desk. Been wanting an iMac for a while now, but decided to wait when the Apple silicon was announced last year. Very excited!

Would you say 27 inch is the ideal size if cost weren't an issue? What made the 32 inch too big? Sitting at desk and looking at 32 inch screen the outer parts of the screen were more at your peripheral vision and it didn't get enough of your attention? I've used a 27 inch for a few minutes in an Apple Store and it did feel I was almost surrounded by the screen. It's was nice, but never used anything larger than 27, and now wonder if anything bigger would be overwhelming sort like an IMAX theatre where the screen is so so big you can't see everything at the same time. I didn't want to wait for when the bigger iMac will come out, so I ordered the new 24 iMac. I have the 24 Cinema Display now.
Not OP but I’ve been on a 32 and am moving down to a 24 vertical + 24 imac setup. 32 was just too large, a lot of space wasted, I got a 24 1080p setup vertically where most of my static content / things I need at a glance will live and 24 imac would be the main display for me where most of my work is done. Felt like it was a more efficient use of space. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Kind of a similar boat. I use my 12.9 2018 iPad Pro for my portable kit, especially attached to the Magic Keyboard and bought a 16GB RAM/512GB SSD 8 core for my replacement of my 2017 MacBook Pro. My mom needed a home computer and was happy to take mine so it worked out great.

For my use I'd say 27 inch is too big for what I currently do on my computer. I used to do video editing years ago and I liked the bigger screen, but now all I do is basic stuff like Pages, Safari, etc. so 24 inch seems to be my sweet spot. My desk isn't that big and the 32 inch monitor took up too much space, and I found myself having to turn my head a lot to see the entire screen, and most of the content I'd view would have massive white sides to them and wouldn't take advantage of the big size (except watching shows, it was nice for that!). I used to get the biggest sized screens Apple sold, but over the last 2 years I went from an iPhone 7 Plus to a 12 mini, 12.9 iPad Pro to an 11 inch, and now 27 inch to 24 inch for some reason. I also sold my 13 inch MBP and I'll use my iPad in its place (basically only use it for Pages). If you do a lot of creating or entertainment, I would say 27-32 inches is perfect, but if you do more day to day stuff, then 24 inch is likely a sweet spot too!

Has anyone in the UK actually got a 21st May delivery time? Looking at Amazon and they have the iMac releasing on the 27th May.

Just picked mine up from the Apple Store ? I used the AR mode to get a feel for the size of it net to my iPad. That extra screen real estate will be a nice change. I haven’t had an iMac since 2010.

This will be my first Mac after using various MacBooks over the years and I’m excited for it because I always wanted an original iMac when I was younger. I got mine in orange. It’s been great to see apple bring color back into the rest of their products

Probably not for those activities. But it is for future OS upgrades, at least in my opinion.

Sounds like two displays is better than one big display.

When you use your iPad to do traditionally laptop things like Pages, do you miss the power/features of macOS and macOS apps?

Defo feels like that, my only gripe being the vertical 24 inch being a 1080p, even in my current setup with my MBA being the main driver, the retina vs non retina does irk me a tad bit... Another thing that does bug me is the lack of a nano-display option for the imac 24 :( really would've loved to see that but it seems like that's being reserved for the higher end models.

Bezel of iMac blends into surroundings.

black bezel on IPP looks like Samsung something or other.
