Looks like a fun line up. Max will still be on the podium though I fear. But a Perez win would be fun just to see Max cry and Christen have to try and sound pleased!
But given how big America is, would it be possible to find a better track?

I hope Checo is full of confidence and carries this performance through the rest of the season. It’ll be interesting to see how Horner publicly handles a title fight within his own team. He struggled in the Vettel/Webber era and was unconvincing when trying to convince the viewing public he was impartial. It was quite telling in the last race with his immediate reassurance to Max on the radio. There are already rumours Max is frustrated behind the scenes and wants a new teammate, but of course those are rumours from somewhere. Seeing how much Max throws a tantrum in public, I’d imagine he’s very difficult to manage behind closed doors.

Ah Miami this weekend, I’ll watch it later, but I do find the whole thing a bit of a fake charade, a bit look at me! Shame to see F1 resort to it really, pools in restaurants in the middle of the track, fake yachts, bit vulgar for me. Track is a bit rubbish too. Trying to out do Monaco where the super yachts are real and it has a lot more class for it.

Sadly we all know give it 20 laps and Max and Checo will be battling for 1 and 2. I’d love to see Alonso win, my goodness I would be ecstatic for Aston to be on the top podium.
Give me those top 4 battling it out anyway though! But Perez will steam away I think.

Absolutely. Of course Daniel would be one option. But hard to get rid of Checo when he’s having his best season.

IMO, F1 races fit the following categories:
  1.

"The Cathedrals of Speed" where it's all about the racing. Tracks like Silverstone, Spa, Monza and Suzuka.

  2. "The Elite Meet and Greet" where it's all about the commercial sponsorship deals and a place for the rich and famous to be seen. Monaco is the Poster Child for this, but now Abu Dhabi and Miami are there, as well.

The problem with Miami, however, is they could not put it where it should have been - on the waterfront in Biscayne Bay with all the beaches and yacht clubs and condo towers in the background - so while it is meant to be in this category, it does it the least successfully, IMO.

  3. "The Places to See" where it's all about "location, location, location" and showing Formula One off as a "global sport". These are the street circuits including Melbourne, Singapore, Montreal and now, Las Vegas. I'd put Jeddah and Baku here, as well, though I expect their willingness to pay a heavy sanctioning fee (along with ARAMCO being a Tier One overall sponsor) helped get them on the calendar.

  4. "We're here because a popular local driver/team can reliably fill the place" includes tracks like Barcelona, Red Bull Ring, Zandvoort and Mexico City. COTA kind of fits this role as it originally benefitted from strong Mexican attendance before F1 took off big in the US thanks to "Drive to Survive".
And then we have tracks like Qatar and Bahrain that are willing to pay a fortune to have a race and tracks like Hungary, Interlagos and Imola that are still around due to tradition more than anything else.

Sir Jackie Stewart being the MVP getting Roger Federer over to Martin for a quick shoutout.

The handlers/staff around Federer looked like they had no idea who Sir Jackie was, though.

And we have the obligatory "Drive to Survive" Driver Introduction segment hosted by LL Cool J.

Yes, that was comical if not for it being so reflective of the propaganda.

Sir. Jackie must have felt the need for a bath afterwards.

Just leave the celebrities alone. You cannot just storm towards them unannounced and force an interview from them.

Brundle tried to do the same thing to Serena Williams a few years ago.

I was actually pleasantly surprised with the racing, lots of overtaking at Miami this weekend. Predictable outcome though. Another great result for Aston.

Great outcome this weekend, absolute masterclass from Max Verstappen on how to do this neatly and cleanly combined with a slightly different strategy that clearly paid off.

A good result for Fernando and sorry for Checo, it was quite predictable though. Good drives by both Merc drivers too. One of the worst venues on the calendar though and the whole circus feels forced there. No amount of the presenters telling us ‘nobody does a Grand Prix better’ is going to change this. Onto the next race and no doubt another predictable result at the front.

That is indeed the issue of the result being so predictable. Max is racing in the Tour De France on a motorcycle while everybody is riding on a regular bicycle. And the only other person who rides a motorcycle too is a mid-tier driver called Checo, so you know what the outcome is in advance.

I don't feel sorry for Checo, he never in his life imagined that someday he would be "beating" drivers like Alonso and Lewis driving 1-handed. And he sometimes gets to win races when Max screws up. I'm pretty sure he is extremely happy with the opportunity that has been given to him.

I feel more sorry for guys like Russell, Norris and LeClerc. They are extremely talented drivers of the next generation who should be fighting for championships, but what can you do when you are riding a regular bicycle in the Tour De France while some guys are riding motorcycles.

Race result was pretty predictable. RBR 1-2 followed by Alonso.
The strategy they chose for Max helped the team get the result they wanted.
The fact that Max could keep up with the drivers on mediums and eek his hards out for so long makes it even more obvious how far in front they are.

I think both Mercedes drivers got all the could out of their lemon of a car.

The fact that Ferrari were struggling to overtake Hass says it all for the team.

When’s the next major rule change? Because until then it’s going to be a RBR WC. It will also always be Max I’m afraid. He is the better driver and favoured by the team.

The biggest change will be 2026 when the new engine specifications take effect.

Tire blankets are said to be banned in 2024, but that is the only "technical" change currently planned.

I’m afraid it will be RBR until then at least then. The aero package on that car is so much better than the rest. Especially the DRS advantage.
