Well I'm pretty sure he doesn't mean a serious crash. Ironically @Apple fanboy and @The-Real-Deal82 used ot get on to me for saying that about Mercedes ...

And as a fan backmarkers, binning it is the only hope for a decent result most of the time for those teams. That or a tire war and nobody wants that.

RB having a failure or a wreck is literally the only hope for the rest of the field.

Anywho ... I would have loved for Aston Martin to go with inters the first time Alonso stopped...
It was a confusing time, was just spitting and then it poured. I’m glad he had enough distance for another pit stop to keep his second place. I think Alonso will manage to get a win in. At least Aston Martin is competing.

Roll on Barcelona 👍

I slept through a chunk of it lol, very boring and predictable until the rain…. Max drove a superb race though and deserved the win. And Alonso was good too but I think that his track position had more to do with the track then anything else.

Of course I wouldn’t want a serious crash. But nobody wants to see one car drive off and leave the field for dust either.
I would have liked an Alonso. Best chance he’s going to get all season.

Agreed. But you do recall both you and @The-Real-Deal82 snapping at me a season or two ago when I was hoping for the same thing when Lewie and Merc were running away with it all...? Right?

I do. And I appreciate the hypocrisy. Truth is Mercedes started the last lot of new regs with a massive advantage.
I would say RBR have an even bigger advantage right now.
But towards the end of the last lot of reg changes it was pretty close. Just got to hope that Mercedes, Ferrari and McLaren can up their game. But if it’s as one sided as it is as the moment, you’re left hoping for an accident.
Of course back in the turbo days there were also a good number of DNF’s.
These days the cars are a lot more reliable. So when a car is 20 seconds out in front, the race is mostly done.

At least the rain made it interesting.

Then Indy500.... not sure the 500 means, seems to be either 500 restarts, 500 crashes or 500 000 angry ex F1 supporters.. What an insane race.. Just why it takes a month a bit beyond me...

It used to literally take up the entire month of May decades ago, with qualifying spread over two consecutive weekends and a shedload of other on-track activities spread across the weekdays. As NASCAR became ascendent as the #1 US motorsport and the CART/IRL split meant many of whom were considered the "best" open-wheel drivers no longer bothered to compete in the event, Indy's relevance as an "event" became less and everything was contracted to the current roughly one week of events.

Of course back in the turbo days there were also a good number of DNF’s. These days the cars are a lot more reliable. So when a car is 20 seconds out in front, the race is mostly done.

Yes, one "drawback" from the current regulation's emphasis on reliability (and the penalties applied for unreliability) is that mechanically-related DNFs are few and far between, nowadays.

I vaguely remember that. I also remember during the height of the Mercedes dominance, calling for other teams to close the gap. I support British drivers winning but hate to see any team running away with it easily. It’s dull, and it’s very much like that again but with a different team doing it. Give a world class driver a great car and they’ll deliver the results. Although we had years of people saying Lewis isn’t very good, he’s just got a good car and those people now seem to think it’s justified further because he’s no longer winning. Max will probably get the same criticism once Red Bulls dominance comes to an end so this all feels much like a rinse and repeat scenario.

I’d like to see Aston Martin or Mercedes turn up and be competitive before the season is out. Max is walking to 2 consecutive championships with ease and even he must be hoping for a challenge for his own legacy.

Yup, they tend to do that, even blocked me for calling them out on it several times. The hypocrisy is strong. It's a shame, we all have our favourites and no need to put down other drivers with the continued bias on display.

And to demonstrate that once again ….

Max is walking to 2 consecutive championships with ease and even he must be hoping for a challenge for his own legacy.
Ahem, it is walking to 3 consecutive championships.

Anyway, it is still early in the season. I'd love Alonso to find a bit more. And I'm also always cheering for Yuki. My number 1 remains number 1 though :)

Can't we all agree he needs a tyre* puncture at the first corner on race day...?

* I'v even spelled it the European way...

I’d rather Mercedes or even McLaren turn up with a radically improved car and legitimately challenge for wins. Max tends to go wheel bashing when he’s got a driver putting him under pressure so I’d sooner see him put himself out of a race that way than fluke misfortune. Then again this season needs spicing up any way possible! Hopefully Max breezing to two consecutive championships will be coming to an end next season and we see a title fight.

When Alonso's engine went bang in the indy500 a couple years ago, I thought finally McLaren would get the not so subtle hint that maybe he, Zak is the problem, since he has been in charge, well nothing has gone right, 2 formula, and yet to really make a difference, maybe McLaren could hire Toto's misses, after all she has seen a lot, heard a lot..knows cars..

McLaren might actually get somewhere this year then now. They have had pretty disastrous performance this year, battling with Aston last year now mid to lower half of the field whilst Aston is taking podiums, although partly due to the goat Alonso.

Why? He’s following in the great Lewis footsteps… in fact not even that as he’s not lapping 4th place every race like Lewis did they were so out in front.
Max is perfectly fine where he is, other teams will have to catch up and challenge and race him.

How dull was it when Lewis was winning all the time though? Right now the chances of other teams catching up is slim to none this season. An incident is the only way this season can get exciting, or better than it is. Alonso seems to be getting the most attention and he is not even winning races, which goes to show how eager viewers and the press are for some competitive racing.

Yes, however doesn’t change that fact Lewis did EXACTLY the same year after year after year after year.. and all anyone said was other teams will just need to catch up, well it’s the same now only it’s RB in the lead, no need for any ‘accidents’ other teams will need to catch up.

I feel like given past Ferrari qualifying speeds and Monaco Alonso qualifying time the cars should be much closer. It‘s in the fine details that stretched out over a race make a huge difference. Max then makes it seem easy by being super consistent. I was expecting more of a fight up front. It’s coming at some point anyway.

Rooting for Alonso and his team to take the number 2, they can get Perez too. And what do we say each year? Next year will be exciting!

Well I can’t speak in behalf of others but I’ve said other teams need to catch up too.

Disappointing upgrades for all in Spain. Looks like 2023 will continue to be the RB show.
Can’t wait for 2024.

Personally, I thought Fred in the AMR23 looked dam good in P2. It won’t be the racing we all yearn for, but I could see Fred giving Max a reason to be looking in his mirrors quite a bit.

W14 is still the W14.
