It was reported on July 7th that “Lewis and Toto had agreed in principle to the financial terms and 2yr extension.” It has not been signed yet, but is expected to be over the break, or at least not publicly announced.

I’d wager it’s packed with incentives versus just paying him the ridiculous $50 million a year/5yr he wanted. So, the W15 had better move that driver location to allow for a proper rear suspension.

It’s obvious with his comments that he realizes as most do that the RB19 is very different depending on the driver.

Not taking sides, however if Lewis was in a RB19 set up to his liking Max would simply just flip another switch.

Max can be his own worst enemy at times. He needs to keep it together mentally. I believe he will. The Summer Break will allow that.
Senna/Prost situation ... That'd be fun...

Lewis is entitled to his opinion, but Max would still be quicker. Sounds like “I don’t like my new contract.” He’s angry over P4 when both RB19‘s were lifting allot to not have excessive Skid Block wear. Especially entering Eau Rouge.

Testing the Toto friendship these days. 😏

Jealousy is an ugly monster. He needs to get his head down. Work on improving the car he has under him.

Sadly, I guess not.

I blame the other teams that can't quite seem how to figure it out.

But they can figure it out in qualifying? Mercedes, McLaren and Ferrari are all up there at the front or on pole, yet come the race they pale to the RB. They are meant to be slower in race trim them qualy trim, so not sure what the problem is? Look at Alonso, winning podiums all year no down the grid in the middle.
At this stage we should have been seeing Ferrari and Aston, Mercedes and possibly McLaren battling for 2nd and 3rd.

RBR has won most of the poles the past two season though. I don't even have to look that up. And Max had pole this past weekend until he had gearbox issues. So they're not really even figuring it out for qualifying, are they? Unless something unforeseen happens they'll be on pole for almost every race.

And he has started winning by almost half a minute now as well. Perfect combo of man & machine. Not a slight on them at all. The other teams need to up their games.

I agree. But playing devil's advocate, dominant teams in F1 are usually displaced not by other teams catching up to them, but instead by changes to the rules that often target that one team.

Which we will see once again at the end of the season. I’m certain the FIA and F1 are already in their smoke filled back room.

F1, ”If you cat beat them, neuter them.”

That’s always been the way of the sport and something that may not be popular with fans of the teams winning, but essential for the sport to survive.

This is no different to Max saying he’d win in the Mercedes which he did a few years ago, Alonso also chipped in and claimed anybody could win in Lewis’ Mercedes. When a team dominates, competitive rivals always wish they had the best car, that’s just the way it works. I think it’s a safe bet Lewis or Alonso would be winning races right now if they had a more competitive car and seeing the RB winning by over half a minute with more left in the tank, it’s got to be frustrating for drivers in teams who can’t even get close. It’s a highly competitive sport and Max isn’t the only driver capable and wanting to win World championships.

Of course he is not the only driver capable and wanting to win WDC’s.

I’m simply of the opinion that at this point in this Era Max is a more dominant driver than Lewis was with Mercedes 2014-2020.

No disrespect intended toward Lewis, but it’s obvious it’s not just the RB19 at this level of execution.

I think Lewis had better number 2 drivers than Max currently has. But to win WC you need to be consistent. Lewis and Max both have that. Where as someone like LeClerk or Perez can be quick, but just not every week or for an entire race.

I disagree respectfully. I think Max has a very different status within his team than Lewis ever has as outright number one due to emotional support and weaker team mates. Rosberg and Bottas were both much better and more consistent than Checo and had the support of their teams, especially in the press. Max has the perfect package right now and unconditional support to fulfil what he and the car are capable of. Of course Lewis and Max are exceptional drivers who are consistent enough to dominate within their respective teams.

Agreed. My point with Max is that IMO he is the most consistent driver of the Hybrid Era. Mainly his ability to simply throw a switch anytime he needs to in order to compensate for either a chassis balance issue, or track conditions.

The RB19 is what it is as much as Max is from driving it. At this date in the Hybrid Era. IMO.

I understand your point. I would simply point to my response above.

I would still reiterate my point that Max is not under anywhere near as much pressure as other drivers during this era. These last two seasons he’s had a car 0.5+ seconds a lap faster than the field and a teammate who only very occasionally outperforms him in qualifying and the race. The last time he had serious competition for the title, he made many mistakes throughout the season and effectively lost it until a bit of extraordinary help on the last lap. I’m sure he’s matured a lot since and a better driver now, but everybody hailing him as the best driver ever for being able to breeze into the distance and win by over half a minute each race are forgetting that nothing lasts forever. Lewis was doing this a few years ago and with a competitive team mate(s).

Max is doing a fine job at the moment, and Red Bull are making sure Checo is fighting to stay motivated. Horner and the Helmet are giving the press regular negative comments to make sure Checo remains no threat psychologically too. Red Bull are a very unique team in that respect and have found it more difficult than many others with managing two competing drivers. Max has it made right now.

Change of topic slightly... I watched a very interesting discussion that in order to level the field, the solution is to reduce or increase the fuel flow rate of teams lower [increased flow rate] or reduce flow rate [teams leading..] the idea is that the engines are restricted to some percent below 100% now in 2023, in order to reduce wear, what they are finding is that engines are lasting, and maybe with a slight increase, "slower" cars would benefit from a horse or 2 more...

I don't know enough, other than one team is in favour, other teams are against this, but strangely this is allowed for in the new regs coming in 2026.. If a team's engine is -3% down on the leading constructor, then there is scope to allow for some sort of "enhancement" to let the -3% team to catch up...

Would it be interesting to see what would happen if say William's was allowed a +3% increase in fuel flow, would this equate to a better race pace?

Or just scrap DRS for those that make it through to Q3.

As long as this measure isn’t making up for teams who have failed to find the speed due to weaker aerodynamics. If it equalises just engine power, then fair enough. I don’t think any fans interested in the more technical aspects of the sport want to see false racing based on regs introduced to penalise teams who have simply done a better job.

I’ve said for years now they also need to scrap DRS. It’s just an entertainment feature that offers nothing to the true development of customer/consumer technologies.

Absolutely scape DRS. Or let them use it whenever they like. RB can only use it on corners though!
