think about how you would use it.

Good advice. However that's not why I made my purchase. I was interested in discovering ways to use it that I would never could have imagined. Haven't been disappointed.

Does anybody else intend to use it for basic work tasks?

For basic work I find text editing in the VP to be impossible using Siri or the virtual keyboard. Using it as a Mac virtual display works just fine with the Mac peripherals.

I can’t do a demo until next weekend but it looks like you can’t reserve a slot then. Do I just rock up to the store and hope one is available?

Glad to hear! I’ve also switched from 25W to 21W and enjoying it more - got my prescription lenses coming tomorrow so will see if that changes things!

You may need a bigger light seal with the subscription lenses as 21w may not be deep enough and the image will be too close and you’ll receive error messages as a result. Something to consider so you don’t have any surprises.

Is it too far out to reserve a spot? Maybe just wait a few days until they open those spots?
Or are you saying they are already all booked? Hope you enjoy it!

I didn't really any reason to keep this, it seems like bit of a gimmick or no real use case for me. It creates real disconnection when doing anything. Just started with the Mac Virtual Display and this is a game changer. I am torn between returning and waiting for Version 2 hopefully lighter or keeping because of the Mac Virtual Display. Is there anything else that would be super useful that I might be missing?

The top sticky thread is all about whether people are keeping or returning and why.

Can I check something really dumb…?

I get a bit of motion blur in everything e.g. if I have safari or a video open and then move my head, it blurs for a few seconds. If I look at the real world through the feed it’s like an old 5mp camera video from the 00s. Grainy but clear ish. I expected this.

However, when I was using word and outlook (and a few other VP apps), it felt like I was looking at things in less fine detail, as if through the haze you see when there is heat vapour etc. so not entirely fine or clear (but not unclear either - just a weird in between). Or as if there is a smudge. But I’ve checked and there isn’t. This is mostly on text. The videos are perfect and look sharp as anything. This is normal right!?

I feel like I didn’t notice it on day one. And can’t decide if something has changed or I’m just getting more observant / settled. I love it and don’t want to exchange or take it back etc.

It’s not supposed to 4k crisp in every app right!?

I went to a festival this weekend and the spatial videos are sooo brilliant.

I had a demo at Apple Stratford today. As someone who owns an Oculus Quest, the idea of being transported to a virtual world was not new to me, which I think stole some of the magic away.

The Vision Pro felt just like the best / most impressive VR headset, but that's all it is to me. A VR headset.

Apart from the dinosaurs or the immersive video at the end of the demo (which are designed to make you go "woah"), the things that impressed or surprised me the most were:
  • The accuracy and speed of the eye tracking - it just works.
  • The smoothness of the interface - zooming and panning photos was incredibly responsive, there was no perceptible latency whatsoever and the high refresh rate made it feel like I was interacting with the VR equivalent of a ProMotion display.
  • The sheer pixel density - especially apparent when watching an Apple TV+ trailer in the immersive theatre mode, it genuinely looked and felt like I was watching in my own private theatre, with the best image quality I have ever seen, better than any cinema.
But, some things fell a bit flat for me:
  • Comfort - it was uncomfortable, heavy, felt like it was hanging off my face. This might be a fit issue, but nobody told me otherwise.
  • Spatial video - although the 3D reliving of memories was pretty good, especially the birthday cake scene, the videos are quite low-res and I don't think they would be much better than any VR video you can get in the Meta Quest 3. Even the immersive video experience "shot in 8K' had a strange low-res feel to it in most of the 3D shots - the highest resolution was at the end when you see the woman's face, and that wasn't really 3D.
  • VR-ness: The FOV was notably very restrictive, and I got all sorts of glare and reflections on the lenses too. If I wasn't looking at something dead-on, and it was instead at the edges of my 'vision', then it would be blurry, just like every other VR headset I have tried. And not because of foveated rendering.
Given that the headset did not feel perfect to me comfort-wise, and of course the insane cost, I just cannot justify getting one of these. I can't see myself doing any productivity work in them (although I would love to try using a Mac keyboard with it), gaming without controllers is virtually useless, and that only really leaves immersive video / watching videos in the theatre environment, which while very impressive, is no good way to splurge £3500. Not with my salary anyway!

Only a small part of the VP experience. See my post of best VP apps. The new Mog synthesizer app is amazing.

Explore POV has astounding hiking videos. I can smell the grass and feel the spray of the waterfalls. Wouldn't have been sharper if I had been there. Something was not right.

I got all sorts of glare and reflections on the lenses

Sounds as if you had a bad fitting. Some glare is unfortunately unavoidable. Comes and goes depending on the content.

I can't see myself doing any productivity work in them (although I would love to try using a Mac keyboard with it),

I'm writing this using on a 6 foot VP virtual Mac display. Am on my 2nd battery which I'll have to recharge fairly soon.

Has anyone in the UK or Canada seen a permanent charge for the zeiss lenses? I told Apple multiple times they haven’t put through a permanent charge and they insist they did lol.

Returned, today. Apple Store wanted to send the Vision Pro through Genius Bar for some reason, luckily someone stepped in and knew what they were doing. I live on my own and I feel so disconnected with the space around me with it. I thought I didn't enjoy it because I had people staying and. that disconnected me. I have a Quest, yes not so good with display or Mac extension but cant justify the price and tbh it creates such a disconnection. Not for me!

You live on your own and you don’t like that the Vision Pro makes you feel disconnected?

Disconnected from what?

You're probably thinking it backwards. It's likely not that they want to feel isolated and so are living on their own, but are living on their own which causes them to feel isolated. I'm guessing they want to feel more connected and make more friends, and using an AVP is not conducive to that.

I've tried one when travelling to NYC and it is very cool tech. I travel a lot for work and spend a lot of time in hotels, so it would be amazing to watch TV/films on. Having said that, I don't think I'll be preordering as it's a pretty significant amount of money - I may, however, pick one up on the second-hand market in 6-18 months. I think I'd bite at ~£2k, but as it stands the content and use cases just aren't there to be worth £3.5k (plus lenses and travel case) for me personally. I hope everyone who does preorder has fun, though!
After having said this, I recently received an unexpected bonus and decided to take the plunge on a Vision Pro. I've had it for about 24 hours now, although don't yet have my corrective lenses so everything is a tiny bit soft!

Have been trying out different apps and games and so far think it's a very fun and impressive toy, but is going to cannibalise my iPad usage rather than Mac usage. Watching a TV show lying in bed whilst looking up at a 80" screen is very cool, and diminishes distractions that usually take me out of the story.

Spatial videos are great, but find the "3D-ness" much better on photos taken on the Vision Pro itself than my iPhone - I hope Apple lean into this further in the future, and produce phones/iPads with identical camera lenses spaced apart a bit further.

A couple of things I'm running into and wanted to get others' thoughts:
  • It feels like windows are tilted very slightly away from me to the left? I don't seem to be alone in this (https://discussions.apple.com/thread/255456465?sortBy=best), but wondered if anyone had come up with a fix yet?
  • The relatively narrow FOV causes me to see some black arcs in the middle of content where each eye runs out of screen - when I'm still, I can ignore this quite easily, but when moving/looking around immersive video, it's slightly distracting - do I have a bad light seal fit, or is this normal?
  • Am I the only one who prefers the solo knit to the dual loop band? I think a hybrid of the two would be best, but prefer how easy it is to adjust the tightness and shift the headset up/down when using the solo knit.

I’m using a CPAP strap (for oxygen masks) with my solo knit band, £8.95 from Amazon.
I’ve noticed the annoying tilt to the left, so I’m glad you brought it up, nobody else seems to mention it.

I'm glad I'm not the only one - it sounds silly but makes it quite annoying to use. Hope it can be fixed in software - for £3.5k I want the core experience to be near-perfect!

I tend not to opt for AppleCare on personal devices. I'm considering it with the Vision Pro, as I feel it may be more prone to design or manufacturing defects as a first generation device, e.g. cracking of the cover glass.

Do people feel it's necessary in view of UK Consumer Law? I expect that having AppleCare+ would mean more of a "no questions asked" experience in the case of a defect arising, rather than needing to argue the case on the basis of consumer law, and it wouldn't cover accidental damage.

Also, is it possible to add post-purchase with the Vision Pro?

There is a 60 day window to add AppleCare after purchase of the AVP.

You have protection if you ordered online and paid by credit card, you could go back a few years for warranty claims. You wont be able to claim for cracked glass for sure!
