What idiot runs Netflix? They are complete morons.. Really they should not be trusted on choosing their own underwear or what to have for breakfast...

They are idiots for not having made this decision 15 seconds after the 1st episode of DTS went live.. Of course it is an obvious decision.. Sadly 99% of big decisions are made by utter morons.. They waited how long? Should have bought it for twice what Liberty paid, and Netflix would have made at least 1000% profit.. It is like 5 cents on the Dollar to Netflix.. A dumbass to have waited this long...

It would be nice to see them kill Sky F1 off. I’m happy with Channel 4 highlights personally but it would be cool to have access to the occasional live race as I already have Netflix. I’d imagine the price will go up with that coverage though. Interesting nonetheless.

Or they add some sports tier. I follow cycling and to watch the grand tours (Giro, Tour de France, and Vuelta) I first of all need a subscript to (HBO) MAX (between €10 and €20 per month) plus an additional €30 per month to get the sports package that mostly contains sports that I am not interested in. I'm not going to spend €50 per month on a streaming service so last year I just watched highlights on YouTube. I've already given up on watching F1 live for the last couple of seasons.

Also happy with the extended Channel 4 highlights. I prefer the line up too.

I would love to see Sky off F1 as well. I'm just concerned as to the pricing structure. I believe they could pull it off from an operations standpoint. Their streaming operations have improved significantly the past 2yrs.

I believe a Sports Package is a real possibility. Personally I would have no need for an additional Sports Package. Requiring that would be cost prohibitive for our household.

The article mentioned this was for the US broadcasting rights, only, so it should have no impact outside of the US.

And I would expect F1TV would still be available in the US since not everyone has ESPN/ESPN+, either, so an alternative streaming source is required.

F1TV needs to get with the idea that local is better, they could/should have a way to price the access in local currency, for example have a 1/2/3 day option, so you can pay for what you need, maybe as a bolt on to Netflix, as an in app purchase? I am often at work when the race goes live, and have to wait for the crappy broadcaster here to replay the race.. But if I could pay a couple of local currency, and get the race streamed 2 hours after it started.. Instead of waiting until 5am the next morning, or 7pm on Monday night..It would be worth paying for...

I am pretty sure F1TV (the smart device stand alone app, different than the Formula 1 app) lets you watch the race at anytime once it has started; I think maybe you are thinking of the F1 channel that you *might* get depending on what smart TV you have. I have a Samsung and I get a F1 TV channel for free; but it does not play recent races until a week after they happen.

Maybe the app works different outside the US? 🤷‍♂️

Although I have always watched the race live when using the app.

It is only like 57 per year, and you can pay in local currency ;)

Exactly, US broadcasting rights. There will still be Sky in the UK (who has exclusive right, I don't like that), and ViaPlay in the Nordic and other countries like the Netherlands. We have Sky Q to watch F1 in UHD in the UK, I gave up ViaPlay in the Netherlands and now use F1TV on an AppleTV. And I use my phone to cast or watch F1TV everywhere else.

I can't really pin too much blame on Audi, since they made the move less than a year of gaining control of the company.

As for Sauber, my guess is Peter could not afford to build an all new facility in the UK as much as a desire to stay in Switzerland with their existing staff (just as we say the UK staff would not want to move to the Gulf States, so perhaps the Swiss staff did not want to move to the UK).

Audi's mistake was to buy Sauber, whose majority owner, Finn Rausing, fought to retain control.

Andretti had already approached the team, and a deal fell apart due to control issues.

Audi may have thought it was getting a head start, and a guaranteed place on the grid by buying the team, but also encountered a power struggle.

Unlike Andretti, Audi could have created a new team of its own, which could have saved the headache they've been having since the start of the project. F1 wouldn't have refused them like they did with Andretti, who was told to buy a team to get in, and eventually brought in GM and stepped aside to get F1's blessing.

When you're part of one of the top two OEMs in the world, you shouldn't have to buy a crappy team, or deal with its ownership and poor performance to make your long-awaited grand entrance to F1. That was a poor approach, but what is done is done.

"The maximum number of Formula One (F1) teams allowed is 12. This limit is set out in the Concorde Agreement, which is a commercial contract between F1 and all teams that race in the sport. The current agreement is in place until the end of the 2025 season. "

At the moment we have 10 teams... where are the other 2 teams? Why 12? why not 15? for a 30 car grid?
Why did Audi buy Sauber? When Audi bought Sauber, or any team is sold, what are they selling exactly? And no it is not the team, they are not slaves.. you cannot buy people legally...

For example when William's sold their team, what did they sell? They sold their "spot" their 1 of 12 rights on the grid.. So if we have 10 active teams, we have 2 non-active non named teams owned by the FIA/F1/Liberty.. Which is confusing as you cannot own 2 teams.. Red Bull cannot run 2 teams.. But yet we have 2 teams owned by 1...

F1 is like timeshare, you are buying into the right to visit some hotel for x number of days, F1 is run like a timeshare, teams buy in 1 of 12 "slots" and this is what is traded, it it not the team itself, or it's position, that has almost no value in of itself.. In a way it is a subtle form of cheating, to buy in a team, to take over like we have seen with Mr Stroll a few years back, or the fire sale of William's after/during covid times..

What makes no sense is why would Liberty/FIA/F1 hold onto 2 ghost teams that are not contributing to the income stream? Why not go for 12 active teams? Why have 2 non active ghost teams and 10 active teams???

The 24 car limit is due to infrastructure. Many tracks simply cannot accommodate more F1 cars.

The reason we’ve only had 10 teams for some time is due to cost. It’s very expensive to run an F1 team and most of them make little to no profit. We had 12 teams in 2010 but that didn’t last long for that very reason. The F1 organization has been making changes to ensure that the sport is healthy financially, for example through the introduction of the cost cap. It’s supposedly also why Andretti didn’t get approved as they didn’t present present a viable financial plan for how the team would be run and that it would negatively impact the rest of the sport because of this.

It’s easier to just buy an existing team than trying to do everything from scratch.

Easier? Not sure that is exactly true.. But more to the point, about infrastructure? No, we used to have pre-qualifying, and some drivers aka one of the "stig" tried 10 times to qualify for qualifying and failed 10 times.. The car size is the issue, not the number of.. But if car size and infrastructure is the issue, then the Concorde Agreement should have capped at 10 not 12... so 24 is correct and thus the question about 2 ghost teams is correct..

The cost cap is a fraud on the sport, it is only creating a class of very creative accountants, and every team will fall foul at some point, the FIA is run by not very bright folk who cannot see the issues.. F1 should be about your budget, if you have it, welcome, one and all, if you don't, sell your slot to someone with the budget, 12 teams, with budgets from $1m per month, to $1b per month.. It should be an open formula, with only 1 rule.. NO PATENTS!!! 100% open season..

The problem we have now is the cars are too big for many of the tracks, not the number of cars..

Actually, you can when you buy a business. There are several constructs in law, and employment law, that dictate that people have to stay in their roles. And it works both ways, you also can't just get rid of people. I've had specific conditions in my employment contract surrounding several things, including takeovers. And/or part of the due diligence stage of a takeover, conditions added surrounding my employment. It is really not that unusual.

And that is why there is an overall agreement, it is part of the investment teams make. Yes the slot is one, but a successful team is worth something as well. All part of the bigger picture. Even a little 10x5cm spot on a uniform is worth something ;)

Only found out today Bottas is back at Mercedes this year…. That’s an odd choice considering the talent they must have in the academy? Or maybe not as talented as I thought they might be?

A VPN and the F1 TV app, winner, far cheaper then a Sky subscription too and it works much better, and has much better commentary and quality’s better too over the Now TV app.

Not a fan at all of VPN's... all the hype about what they can do.. Personally not a fan of man in the middle attacks, and a VPN is exactly that, man in the middle... Just me..

Too many old men in F1.. It renders F2, F3 functionally useless... They should run F2/F3 in the last 3 years of every decade.. 2017 to 2020, 2027 to 2030.. At this range you maybe get a couple of drivers on the F1 roster...But now, you have way too many brilliant maybe better than ham and Alonso/Bottas combined, getting bum rash in some cruddy touring car league... I get why Lewis/Alonso/Bottas are still there.. it is for the hype.. We may never see the best driver in the years 2000 to 2050... Lewis will still be driving for FIAT in his 70's!!! After all he is a FIAT employee..

This is not what they intended by the Concord Agreement, but it is what they are going to get, when you over regulate, and with the industry all using the same physics, the cars will be from an aerodynamic point, be clones.. That is just a process of how aerodynamics works...

In order to have this affect you need x, and it is impossible to not design it this way, for example in order to fly at Mach 2, the wing needs to be delta, you could have 2 teams, independent of each other, and they will both design the exact same wing, so who copied who? How will the FIA figure out if Merc copied Red Bull? Or Audio spied on McLaren??? This is a slope that has only one outcome, F2... This is the end of F1 as a formula..
