Can you use the normal Apple lightning cable with the Aukey usb charger for a fast charge to the new ipad pro 12.9, or do I need to buy a different lightning cable?

Thanks

Mark
yes you can that’s my current setup

edit: it has to be an apple USB-C to lightning cable

False, Apple MFi certifies chargers too. https://mfi.apple.com/MFiWeb/getAPS

You are technically correct, but I have not come across any 3rd party wall charger that has received MFi certification. If you search anker and organize by "accessory category", you will quickly learn that the only "Charging devices" made by anker that receive MFi certification are car chargers and battery packs. I suspect the same is true for other brands making chargers for iDevices.

Thanks for that. I do believe what another poster mentioned is a good guide though. So long as the charger follows the USB PD spec then a certain level of safety can reasonably be assumed. I do not mean that this an indication that a 3rd party device will support quick charging.

As far as Apple's solution goes, $50 for one port is really steep.

Agreed! My Target had them on clearance for $24.98, so I picked up enough to last me a while.

Just a heads up—at this moment the 2 meter Apple USB-c to lightning cable is on sale for $22.99 at bestbuy.com

That’s a great deal all things considered ! Don’t see it up anymore tho On site?

Also I thought about it an anker charger wouldn’t spook me in the end

I use anker external battery every once in a while on 7+

Same concept really I think it is the cable that matters more and anker is reputable

Having said all that my 29w official one from eBay for 28 arrived with retail packaging and looks and works great. I don’t mind spending that extra bit more for all white aesthetic

But maybe if I want a second fast charge brick I’ll scoop one of these down the road

I had to search to find a good 28 dollar listing FWIW That wasn’t shady looking or one that may or may have not been real shipped from China that would have taken forever to get on top of it all

Actually, I only see the Apple USB-C to USB-C 2m "charge" cable on sale for $22.99 @ BB.

The Lightning to USB-C 2m cable MKQ42AM/A seems to be the normal price, $34.99.

Don’t know about the second one, but it seems to claim 5V, 3A (15W) on the USB-C port.

The Anker claims to work for the MacBook but also claims to not work for the USB-C to Lightning cables. Masotime wrote it off last year with the first gen. I’m tempted to give one a try, just to see if it is also true of the second gen. But it is a long shot at best, and odds are very very good that it won’t work.

The RND (and other brands like CableMatters) 72W does work, but sometimes on the first plug I see it switch to 15V and provide zero amps. Which is leading me to look at others again. Having it fail to charge at all with other devices plugged in is exactly what I don’t need.

My Apple USB-c to lightning 2m cable arrived at my Best Buy yesterday- there was no stock anywhere close by so I had to order. It charges great with my anker 30w brick - 8% to 63% in 1:03hr while using.

Now the 1.5 month iPad Pro 10.5 order/wait/play on launch day/switch to LTE model/Shop & wait for accessories process ends...

Yeah, I got too excited. Saw today that it is just plain ole USB-C. So sorry for the mistake. That's what I get for being up so late. I actually drove all the way to my local Best Buy to pick up what I thought was going to be an Apple USB-C to lightning connection before I recognized my mistake.

Thinking of ordering the 30W Anker charger, but I am curious as to what type of surge protection their chargers provide. Does the power cut off when the charger is no longer able to protect from surges, is there an indicator light, or is there no way to tell if the surge protection is still working?

Just hold of 5 more days.
Anker might release new products on the 24th July.
There is a new banner showing what looks like a battery charging with the numbers 7.24 and saying " All-New Anker is Powering Up"
Hoping for some new 2x USB PD chargers/batteries.

Aukey charger working nicely with my "Genuine Apple refurbished" cable....

Any harm in charging the Iphone 7 or other iDevices over USB PD and Apple's USB-C to Lightning cable?
Thanks

Nope. I've been doing it just fine. I can run numbers if you want. My dumb battery is at 94% right now, but I can drain it pretty decent.

Cool! I will pick up the Tronsmart 48W USB PD charger today and report back if it supports fast charge on the Ipad 10.5 :).
How can I make sure it fast charges? I don't have those fancy gadgets to monitor the voltage.

That's pretty much the only/best way to measure if the iPad is drawing 12, 18 or 29w.

Well... I guess if it charges in 2h than it fast charges:).
Mine is at 17% right now... untill I get the charger it might drop another 1-2% and see how long it takes to 100%.

Is there any risk in me connecting a 61w USB C charger (for my MacBook) to my iPhone 6s+

It’s inevitable, because I am easily tempted by ports lining up like that.

Not necessarily. As mentioned, the "fast charge" support can technically fall into two categories, 29w and 18w. I believe you can only get 29w when battery is <50%, then the draw reduces to 18w, and even less when you get to >90%.

So, unless you're going to make a detailed spreadsheet measuring battery percentage vs. charging time, you still really can't verify "fast charging" without a wattage-measuring device.
