Does anyone know if there's a location where Start Page background images are stored? I have some others I'd like to add. I can do it with an image on my desktop, but can't find a way to add them to the internal "gallery." Thanks.

I was wondering the same thing and ended up just making my own folder and adding the images I want to use there...

Initially I was a bit disappointed they moved away from traditional UI but I must admit the new look and ergonomics do make a lot of sense after using it for a while. :)

I think I spoke too soon. Just updated from one of the earlier betas to the latest one not even suspecting that they managed to redesign it yet again. 😂
I really liked the new clean look with floating address bar at the bottom but that's all gone now lol.

Majority feel a browser needs a two layer set up for iOS (address and tool bar). Apple tried to have a more compact look... but it was too much criticism and push back to have that new design. I'm enjoying Safari iPadOS compact option... I'm disappointed Apple had to revert back changes on iOS 15 instead of letting users adapt to it.

Exactly. They could have left things how they were with that compact look and introduce an option to revert it in settings. That way the smooth transition could be made and then eventually towards the end of iOS 15 lifecycle or with iOS 16 they could remove that option altogether.

But no, they had to make it look nice and then revert the changes by showing that they don't have the guts to release it. Imagine this happening under Steve Jobs?

Well, no one knows for sure, but I’d assume Steve Jobs would have literally LoL’ed after trying Safari 15 for the first time after using Safari 14. He was not a fan of things not working well.

But it was crap. Bookmarks were hidden, there was no refresh button then they added a tiny one that you kept accidentally pressing when typing in an url, the floating tab covered content and webpage buttons at the bottom of the page. I want to view a page in Reader where do I go? Never mind extensions that were also thrown into the mix.

It was simply a bad UI choice, probably looked nice as a concept but when you actually used it it was just frustrating. I mean look at this mess:

I didn't know they added that reload button back (skipped that beta). Frankly it was redundant. How often do you need to reload the page and how hard would be to just tap on address bar and then tap 'go/reload' instead? All of this is really no different to modern cars replacing physical buttons with touchscreen menus. But for some reason it's all reversed - on something like a smartphone where you can easily get away with it for a sake of cleaner design they don't go for it, but when it comes to cars and needing to take your eyes out of the road just for the sake of aesthetics they are all over it.

PS. Tesla's yoke?

There’s times where you’re at the bottom of a very long page, and just need to refresh, rather than scrolling up, and then refresh, then scroll all the way back down.

That could be easily fixed by replacing go button with refresh when the address is the same which you are currently on.

EDIT: Or worst case scenario, adding it to the keyboard as additional button, but would that be even necessary?

Basically you’re wanting extra steps, cos you don’t like it.

There’s tons of people that have this scenario. You are just being self centred

lol what? Since when having a different opinion considered being self centered?
I could spin this around you know and call you out yourself for being too lazy for having to tap one extra time on occasion and refusing to acknowledge other users which are welcoming the redesign.
Anyways though, this Safari design has been around for ages, it's inevitably gonna be redesigned for a cleaner look sooner or later. No need to argue lol.

The general rule is the less clicks/taps to do a function, the better. When things start getting buried, overall usability is downgraded.

And I agree about the redesign. I just think that this go at it shows how difficult that process will be.

Exactly. That was my point. Things should be kept as simple as possible and basic functions should be 1 tap.

Your opinion can be self centred, which it was. You’re entitled to your opinion, but I’m entitled to disagree with it. My disagreement is not me turning it into an argument, it’s a statement of my opinion of your opinion. Standard forum discourse.

Basic functions should not be buried. Refresh button is a standard basic button, it should be accessible easily.

I like the floating bottom bar, and it’s a shame Apple bailed on it due to some haters online. That floating bar should have been developed further.

I like the idea of the URL bar at the bottom, but considering all of the endless scrolling type of sites that then feel broken because of a minimized address bar still taking up a small amount of space there, it feels off to me, regardless of whether they’re able to include the same options as before.

And it’s not like they removed it! We all have the choice now, which is really amazing if you think about it. This affords them the opportunity to continue to tweak it over time while still leaving the “older” functionality in place. I actually don’t see them just sticking to one or the other now. Seems like they can make both work.

I like that there’s a choice for people that like it at the top. Always thought it should be an option, but I liked the floating bar, it took up less space and made it feel like the web page was filling the screen.

Any website that had issues would rectify soon enough. changes need time.

Huh, I actually like it at the top for the very same reason you like it at the bottom. At the top, it minimizes into the space taken up by the notch. On the bottom, you still have that notch space along with the minimized bar at the bottom.

I like the Tab Bar at the bottom as I can then easily swipe between tabs with my thumb. I also like that we have the choice of where to put the address bar.

What is the default setting for safari on iPadOS 15? Separate tab bar or compact tab bar?
