Hi h9826790, this is awesome, thanks for making the process so easy. I've just opencore'd to enable TB3 and it works great, my CPU is listed as 3.5GHz so it looks good - but I have no boot picker. It just loads to log in screen as before.

It just occured to me this is an AMD thread, and I have a GTX680 installed (this one unflashed, but also have a flashed card). Is there something in your prep files I need to change to enable bootpicker?

Is there anyway to donate a few quid for a beer to you?

Cheers

For GTX680, flash it is the easiest (and more practical) way to make it able to show the boot picker.

And yes, if you want to support my work, please donate via the following link. Thanks for your support in advance!

Ah I see, I do have a flashed card in storage but might have a crack at this 680 in the mean time as it's 4GB.

Is there a way to boot into Windows through OC without bootpicker so I can run NVflash? I do have an EFI Windows install on an SSD, from what I remember trying to install Win10 on these 5,1's. was a nightmare.

Will send you a beer now!

That post has ROM for both 2GB card and 4GB card.

And you can boot to Windows 10 via OC now. Just select that in system preferences -> startup disk.

However, this is really just for your to boot to Windows to flash the card. Because your cMP will default to boot to OC, and OC default to boot to Windows. Until you flash the card, or remove OC. It can be quite hard to boot back to macOS.

If your wifi was working, you don't have to enable those kext. That's why I keep them disabled by default.
Sorry - I wasn't clear there - my wifi was working on previous OC 0.63 with that same config 'block' & the kext, now with new 0.64 its not, even though I enabled those as well from your original config. Whether Enabled is true or false it doesn't work anymore. If I revert OC 0.63 folder then its working again. I am wondering if there may be some other reason as the config is identical for both on those two blocks.

Perfect. Just booted into windows, it looks like I can just remove the Win10 SSD and boots into MacOS but will flash in the morning. Just paypal'd you a bit, thanks for the help.

Is there a 'best' AMD card for this OpenCore method? I'm looking at 5700 XT or a 590.

Most modern AMD card should work with OpenCore. So far, the Navi seems doing quite well. Most problems are from the Polaris series, however, most likely due to many Polaris cards were flashed for mining. That breaks the GOP support in OpenCore.

On the other hand, I am using Radeon VII right now. Therefore, my package always tested with Radeon VII.

Then I suggest you keep 0.6.3 at this moment.

And if you want to, you may PM me both your "working 0.6.3" and "not working 0.6.4" EFI folder (the whole EFI folder), so that I can have a look.

h9826790:

Martin I don’t know if I am supposed to ask this question here, please forgive if not! I changed my GPU to an AMD Radeon RX 580 from the old Nvidia GTX 680 mac, my AMD is flashed by Macvid with boot screens and I have a legacy Win 10 SSD- After I boot into Legacy Win 10 from System Prefs, Can I boot back to your OC (Package) 0.6.4 by selecting EFI without any boot problem?? Don’t know if it is a problem with Macvid Flash? I know you told me that would work with GTX 680 mac! (I updated from your 0.6.3-TheBEST!!) Also, I would like to buy you a beer as well! How? THANKS

If your RX580 is flashed, you can always hold Option to boot, and select whatever you want.

e.g. "EFI" should be OpenCore, you can select that, then further boot to macOS to enjoy HWAccel etc.

And you can donate via the follow link. Thanks for your beer in advance!

created a new "easy to install package" as per many requested (based on the official OpenCore). [The attached package already updated to 0.6.4]
Hello Martin, I use your OpenCore 0.6.4 package and everything works fine.

For a few days I've noticed something strange and I just can't find a solution. It doesn't matter whether I turn on the computer in the morning or whether I restart it. no difference. Each time the sound volume is 49% (8 segments sound bezel) instead of 32% (5 segments sound bezel).

This was not the case with OpenCore 0.6.3. I have already set the volume as I want it several times and switched off the computer - switched it on and it was back to 49% after booting - which is very loud. I have already tested the OpenCore 0.6.3 package that I kept as a backup - but the sound and its volume remain.

I tried an NVRAM reset - it didn't work - I guess your package turned it off, right?

<key>AllowNvramReset</key>

I read ot my NVRAM with HackinTool - see attached picture.

I would be grateful for any tip ...

I also have issues with the startup chime and OC 0.6.4. To this day I can't figure out what is wrong and why it is muting it. Nothing in the settings suggests that.

OK, doing so. Wifi back on 063

I'm using OC 0.6.4 with Big Sur 11.0.1 on a 5,1 with Vega 64. I used the Big Sur config in post #1314 and have hardware acceleration working as far as I can tell, however I'm back to getting red video playback with audio only in the Apple TV app when streaming video. This was working in Catalina with shikivga=96, I believe. Of course Big Sur doesn't need WhateverGreen for HWAccel, so is there another way to get Apple TV streaming to work?

A known issue in OC'd Big Sur. DRM streaming decoding is broken.

Got your PM, there is a typo in your 0.6.4 config. I don't know why, but that's different then my published 0.6.4 package.

May be you can download my 0.6.4 package again in post #1314, re-enable those two kexts, and see if that works.

No DRM streaming at this moment. But you can fully download the video in TV apps, then it can play the video nicely.

Hi, on Final Cut Pro X, when sharing project using compressor, I get GPU acceleration on H264 but not on HEVC.

I'm using OC 0.6.4 from h9826790 on 11.0.1, Big Sur plist, only changed uiscale to retina (02) and csr-active-config to FF0F0000. GPU is Radeon RX 5700 XT 8GB. VideoProc says hardware acceleration is on for H264 and HEVC.

Any clue ?

Thanks in advance for any advice !

The guide is in post #1314

The guide is in post #1314
Thanks for the quick answer. I did already follow this guide, but to be sure, did it again but without success.
I'm in Final Cut Pro 10.5, Compressor 4.5

I've created the profile as explained in the guide in compressor (see screenshots attached) and then linked the compressor export profile in Final Cut Pro.

sc1.pngsc2.pngsc3.pngsc4.png

When exporting, the cpu is partially used and the GPU almost not (see activity monitor screenshots).

sc5.png

Really strange. I've also attached fyi the VideoProc screenshot to show hardware acceleration. When exporting H264, then I get full GPU acceleration.

Cheers.

Uncheck "Allow Frame Reordering", your setting is different than the one that I showed in the video. That's why it doesn't work.

Working !

Sorry for the stupid mistake and thanks a lot for your help.

Btw, I was wondering in the config.plist why you kept the csr-active-config to 77080000 and not FF0F0000. In CSRDecode it gives the same result, but I was under the impresssion that for Big Sur there was an extra bit and thus the behaviour was different ?

Cheers !

I may update that later. But up to this moment, here is the reason why I use 77080000

May I know the HEVC export performance different in your case? (5700XT vs dual X5690)
