I think in this render from OnLeaks it looks pretty good actually:

The hump is less thick and more subtle than the one on the X/XS. I think in real life this will look even better. And like many people have said before, you never look at the back of your device and many users put a case on their phone anyways. Especially if the photos are actually going to be a big improvement, the design change is worth it.

To me it's more of a thing that we still get the same size notch for 3 years in a row, while other manufacturers have come up with such great and innovative designs that last year. Also, after experiencing 120Hz on the iPad Pro and 90Hz on the OnePlus 7 Pro I really want that on the iPhone.

I saw Lew on Lew Later say that this is an example of something Steve wouldn't have allowed. That may be a tired argument at this point but it does look hideous. What's more interesting to me is how Apple products are automatically 'cool' regardless of how they look (see: AirPods) so does it really matter?

I think I’m going to pay off my xs Max, get a smart battery case and wait until the 2020 model. I’m really happy with what I have and no matter what ways they upgrade the camera I just don’t take pictures that much, especially now that I’m single. Like I said I’ll pay off mine early and jump back on Apple upgrade program in 2020.

I feel like the bigger these holes get on the back the easier it’s going to be to break a lens or something.

These people don’t have internet at home? I can’t imagine why someone would stand in line when they can simply wake up in the middle of the night on a pre-order night and be done with it.

Imagine being able to afford a $1000 smartphone but not having proper internet at home

Jokes aside, I think a lot of them are doing it just as a ritual, it used to be seen as a “cool thing” to do by some. I personally would never do that to myself

I guess I don’t really see your theory here. I mean, if you think about it, I’d say 99% of iPhone users use a case anyways, and even for a lens to break, the phone would have to drop at a certain angle and depending the surface type the phone falls on.

This is where I am at the moment I think. Went on Swappa and found a great deal on an XS Max. I'm just not sure what the iPhone 11 could add based on the renders.

I'm seriously considering staying in the "once per generation" upgrade cycle. My only concern is how long these generations last. If it's 3 years, that's fine. If it's four years of this my plan might fall apart a bit.

Seems like there is three prominent camps when it comes to upgrading.
1. Yes upgrading regardless
2. What is Apple thinking. I’m not upgrading because of (the notch, the camera hump, no headphones, etc)
3. Not upgrading because of price

#2 always make me laugh.

I always used to defend the Intel modem chip's performance. That changed last weekend, when my wife and I were visiting a friend at a hospital. My iPhone X (the GSM model) had no service, while my wife's Galaxy S9 (equipped with a Qualcomm modem) had a decent LTE connection. If this year's iPhones ship with Intel modems, I will probably wait until the 2020 model.
This right here is spot on and the main reason I will upgrade ASAP

I like to upgrade just before the warranty is up. I get max value on my current phone, save on the cost of an extended warranty (other types of loss are covered by my insurance) and I get the benefits of technical upgrades, incremental though they may be. Also, there’s nothing like a fresh battery. Mine degrade kind of fast because I live out with the cows and hawks and crappy signal.

And this year I’m especially eager to upgrade because I got a yellow phone. I love it, but a year with yellow is long enough. I love the color of the back but the edges are ...

Seems as though the only big new feature is the camera and reversible charging
Unless you really need an iPhone and can’t hold out for the iPhone12 you shouldn’t upgrade. Apple will be doing something big in 2020 and it just might be worth the wait

This always seems to confuse me, I don’t know why others say “The only new big feature is the camera and reversible charging....”. I mean, those are two huge features for the iPhone, the triple lens camera is expected to be fairly significant and reversible charging would be extremely convenient for a product like the AirPods or Apple Watch. I mean, someone might find value in those two features alone to worth the upgrade. I’m Not sure what else others are expecting the iPhone should bring multiple major upgrades every year. [Apple also likes to ration their features each year in what they introduce.]

Rumors are the jump is suppose to be not noticeable so don’t think it will look as bad as we all expect

Actually, the lenses have sapphire glass, so it's the part of the phone that's least likely to break.

I think the new lenses look so cool and modern. They scream “iPhone”, which is what I want. I want people to know that I can afford the latest iPhone. It’s one of my priorities, believe it or not.

So for that reason alone, I will be buying the new non-Max iPhone with triple lens.

Imagine me walking past someone with an older, cheaper iPhone that only sports one or two cameras lol. Those sheeple will feel inferior lolz

Your forgot about double the battery life of current iPhones. If that doesn’t happen I’m going to get mad at Apple.

For people to spend $1000 + after they now own an XS or XS Max the iPhone 11 will have to offer more
Also keep in mind 5G iPhones will probably
Be coming in 2020 as well as a new Apple iPhone be it foldable or whatever

I upgrade every year. I probably would not of upgraded if I would have went x->xs, but I went x->xsmax and love it

After thinking some more, I was going to upgrade, but this year’s iPhones will probably come with the Intel modem again, and I don’t want to spend $1000+ for that modem again. I would rather use my XS Max for another year until Qualcomm is back in the iPhones. My service has significantly dropped since last month with my XS Max and I’m not happy about it.

Yeah, I'm not thrilled at all about that exposed glass. That's a huge, unprotected area (no case is going to protect it) and you know fixing the back of these devices will cost a fortune.

I'll get excited, be emotional, try to plot, rationalize, as to why I should upgrade to the 2019 iPhone.

Then I'll remember how much I paid upfront for my Xs Max and get over it.

Rinse, lather and repeat and repeat again in 2020. TBH... I'm going to try and use this phone until I can't.

I have, unfortunately, depleted my reservoir of creative ways to express my intense disapproval of this design that has been making the rounds. So it will simply suffice to say I will be a hard no if this turns out to be the next iPhone.

Take it as a grain of salt but I read somewhere that it was the antenna design not the Intel modem which caused the connectivity weakness in this generation of iPhone.

I’m not sure if I believe anything has to do the antenna design. Not when the results has been so inconsistent across the board with the Intel modems over the years. Not to mention, I don’t think I’ve read anything like that considering Apples long history with Intel as well.
