Are you sure that DP 1.2 can't support 10bit at 4k60? Because I currently have mine set at DP 1.2 (to work with USB-C cable), and below is what I'm seeing in sys info. The value in the parentheses of the Framebuffer Depth field means its displaying in RGB format at 10bit, no?

LG HDR 4K:
Resolution: 3840 x 2160 (2160p/4K UHD 1 - Ultra High Definition)
UI Looks like: 3840 x 2160 @ 60.00Hz
Framebuffer Depth: 30-Bit Color (ARGB2101010)
Main Display: Yes
Mirror: Off
Online: Yes
Rotation: Supported
Automatically Adjust Brightness: Yes
Connection Type: Thunderbolt/DisplayPort
Thats funny because i have a LG 43UN700B as well but i have just 30hz and the resolution is recognized with 5k if i change to DP 1.2 (before it was ofc working with 11.0 and catalina with 4K60 10Bit and HDR).
I'm not 100% sure but i think full RGB is not possible with DP 1.2 and 4K60 10Bit but i don't know if you can see if its using chroma subsampling compression or not. But at least as you said no HDR support and in my case just 30hz.

That its still not fixed with rc2 and not even not confirmed by apple until now (they just confirmed M1 problems) is not a good sign... i think at least with 11.2 it will not be changed and that apple send out 70$ adapter for free is not a good sign either...

Could any forum moderator tell MacRumors to write an article on this huge problem? So that we can spread it around to get it to Apple.

Incredible how for 2 months you can no longer use external monitors.

Absurd this is the stuff of complaint to the consumer service.

I have the same problem on the LG HDR 4K 32UD99-W monitor. On macOS 11.0.1 it worked fine. After updating to 11.1 it broke already. A few days ago I installed 11.2 RC and I thought it was ok too but after rebooting the problem returned. Yesterday, Apple released macOS 11.2 RC2, but this build doesn't fix the problem either. I had to return to Catalina to work (MacBook Pro 16"). Hey Apple, do something about it!!

this is exactly the problem, which Apple does not deign to solve and certainly is aware of it, since there are hundreds of reports. How should we do?

I just installed an Xcode update.
After restarting the MacBook Pro 16 the external monitor appeared at its default correct resolution!
Let's hope that this was not random!

If you call Apple support they seem unaware of this problem, they always say the same things, reset SMC / PRAM, blah blah blah, which obviously doesn't work! Crazy stuff!

Perhaps the most critical and unsettling bug ever.

Many pages of discussion on this problem also on the Apple forum

Meanwhile, Apple doesn't care and we waste time! Absurd

if you call apple support they just waste your time in first place... they always play dumb let you format your computer, delete everything, add a testuser, smc, nvram reset....
It doesn't matter if here even some bigger it news portals had already an article about that...
With this strategy they never have to do sth... they just wait until you give up and its always the same story "you are the only one who has this problem... just buy apple xdr display problem solved"...

macOS Big Sur RC3, has anyone tested?

——————————

I will answer my question myself. They didn't fix the monitors in RC3 👎🏻

nothing but this is no surprise... there was not even a try to fix it until now and apple made no official confirmation.

That the buggy apple watch unlock function which will destory wifi has nearly no attention is already a surprise but that this problem has nearly no attention as well is very weird... does macrumors has an agreement with apple that uncomfortable topics will be concealed?
At least at german portals here reported already on the first page but nearly nothing at the big apple news sites.

Same problem here.

Specs:
  • Macbook Pro16 with Core i9
  • 32 GB DDR4
  • 1TB SSD
  • Radeon Pro 5500M 4 GB

Automatic GPU switch (on/off) - It does not matter, the problem still exists.
Connected to the LG 4K monitor directly via TB/USB-C.
Each time after sleep or restart my Mac, the resolution of the monitor changes.
The availability of the option to select the resolution also changes, 1080p, 720p sometimes 1024x768 is MAX what i can get.

Other Mac with BigSur work's well (Macbook Pro 15 / 2017 / 16GB DDR3/ 256 SSD), i can get 4k 60Hz (no problem).
So APPLE must broke something with our Macbook Pro 16 with BigSur update i think..

One note, the connection via the HDMI adapter (original or for example satechi) allows me to 4k at 60Hz without any problems.. So it must be something with usb-c direct connection ..

I try to reinstall OS by wipe out partition, and install fresh BigSur, but problem still exist.
I try to reset NVRAM/SMC - no luck, problem still exist.

Unfortunately it is useless to keep trying, with BIG SUR 11.1 you can no longer use monitors with T3 USB-C connection, especially the 16" MacBook pro is affected.

Report it to Apple also by calling assistance.

Another strange thing. On my MacBook Pro 16", the connection to the LG HDR 4K 32UD99-W monitor does not work properly. The image is displayed in 1080p resolution. My brother has a LG 4K 32UD89-W monitor, which is almost the same as mine but without HDR function. MBP 16" via USB-C works fine. There is no problem with 4K@60Hz. However, on the "99-W" HDR model, the problem is already there and nothing can be done about it. Is it HDR fault? I would like to add that I don't use this function and I display the image in a standard format.

Have you guys tried the RC of 11.2? I was having huge problems with messages, mail and spotlight on my imac and so installed the public RC of 11.2 as a last resort. All fixed!

Apple has released the final version of Big Sur 11.2, in which it repairs external displays. It's a shame they only focused on their new M1! I'm a user of an expensive MacBook Pro 16" and my 32" 4K monitor is still not working properly! For two months! F*** you Apple! 🤬

Yup..not working..Paid $4000 to this stupid laptop just 9 months ago..Also paid another $1000 for an external display...they know about this problem and they don't give a f***.. I bet this is not happening with their lovely Apple display, which they sell it for a price of a car. Why the f*** did you break something working nicely...Why are you fixing it for stupid m1 but not for 16" Macbook...You are releasing RC's over RC's...For what?...Is it so hard to fix this????? I promise I won't be buying any apple computers anymore..I'll just get a PC after I'm selling this crap.

M1 Mac Mini user here having a similar problem. I'm using a SIIG HDMI to USB-C Adapter and 11.2 just removed almost all the resolutions on my LG Ultrafine 4k. Extremely frustrating.

Incredibly, 11.2 doesn't fix the bug, we haven't been able to use usb c monitors for 2 months.

We sign a petition, MacRumors write something about this, we report the problem concerning the MACBOOK PRO 16".

Send messages also to the Apple Support Twitter account https://twitter.com/applesupport

Let us hear it !!!!
