I don't notice it, either. If you hate it so much, get some nail polish in a color you like or put a sticky dot over it.

I'm amazed at the things people find to complain about.

I rarely complain about Apple products, and I haven’t really complained about this one. I mean if I truly think it’s going to bother me, I’ll get the non-cellular version, or keep what I have. I just really wondered if others had considered things they could do to tone it down. Maybe you don’t understand why it bothers some people, but I just don’t really understand the need for it be there in the first place; like what compelled them to do that? It just stands out TO ME, and it’ll be too late to decide I really dislike it once I’ve spent $400.

I want the names of the persons who suggested the red dot and approved the red dot in the Apple Watch design team.

I want to know too. He's a genius (and has a good taste too).

Of course normal people who never study Art or Design can think they are art critics. That's why today internet is mostly noise, not knowledge. People can be allergic to red but that doesn't mean red dot is bad taste.

So today I was in the Apple store and one thing I made sure to do was to look at the new watches, having seen lots of moaning-and-groaning about the infamous red dot on the crown of the LTE-equipped models. I've got a first-generation (Series 0) Space Black Stainless Steel and I have been vaguely toying with the idea of updating to a Series 3 and putting my Space Black Link band on a shiny new Space Black Stainless Steel Apple Watch, but had been a bit hesitant after reading so much on here about the red dot and how awful it is, etc. Photos I saw didn't reassure me, either.

To my relief and pleased surprise, the red dot doesn't look all that bad at all in real life, in person, and although I still haven't made up my mind about going ahead with purchasing a new watch this fall, at least the red dot on the crown won't be a strong negative point. It is nowhere near the horror that I was thinking it might be..... Definitely this is one of those situations where people need to see it in person, play around with the various bands and color combinations that they would use with it, and then make a decision.

The red dot represents pretentious, ostentatious, snotty, egotistic elitism which has no function but to reinforce the sense of exclusiveness and selectiveness of owning the latest AW with LTE function which the previous versions and the less expensive non-Cellular versions which look exactly the same do not have.

And I like it.

I should have added in my other post that actually I'm thinking of not activating the cellular function at all -- or at least for a while, since I don't really think I will need or use it all that much. Thing is, one cannot buy a stainless steel version (either silver or black) without it.....and I want to continue using my beautiful black link band.

I actually did look at them in person today and try on quite a few. That’s my issue - with lighter colored bands on the silver aluminum, it just really stands out, and of course clashes with many of the colors (turquoise, the pinks, etc.). I guess that’s why I was curious to see what people were maybe doing to camouflage it.

Red will stand out (and looks classy) in White, Black & Gray so choose wisely.

Doesn’t bother me in the slightest.

FWIW, the 18k gold Edition also had a red crown.

May even buy a Product Red sport band just to accentuate it.

This is true. I don't think most knew that the Gold Edition Apple Watch had a red dot, but then again, many didn't own the Gold Edition given the price point .

I will just reiterate with another poster commented on another thread, and they said, when you actually wear the Series 3 Apple Watch, you don't really see the red dot, as the digital crown is facing towards your forearm and is generally out of sight. So to me, I don't see this as something that would stop me from purchasing this watch just based on a red dot.

If I recall correctly, the Gold Edition watches had a dot that matched the band they were sold with, so one with a red band would have a red dot, but one sold with a black one would have a black dot

I quite like the red dot. I suspect in practice, if I do get an LTE watch I won’t really notice it but I think of the straps I have the only one it’ll look bad with is the Product Red one (in a double denim kind of way). It’ll look great with the pale turquoise sport strap IMO.

I don’t like the red dot on the ceramic.
But it does scream look at me I have the latest Apple Watch Edition and you don’t.

I ordered the dots

Product red and rose aren’t even close to the red

I don't really mind it because when I'm wearing the watch I hardly ever see it to be honest.
