Anyone tried to check on this?

I tried, feels exactly the same as my old case.

I’ve been using them for a while and they are definitely more responsive, now double tapping the AirPod set to next track when is nothing playing, music plays almost instantly. Before you get a little lag.

Hey Siri is super useful, I was carrying some groceries with both hands and being able to control music without having to tap my AirPod was great. It also works super quick.

Someone do the swap and see if the 2nd gen works with 1st gen as a pair. Hurry up
[doublepost=1553617887][/doublepost]
One would be upgraded one wouldn’t be, I usually only use one at a time anyway. How can you not see the advantage of this.

I can see one huge disadvantage. The volume is louder on the new models so you'll be introducing issues trying to balance the audio if you even could mix the two generations as a pair.

I'd love to do the experiment for you but I'm not risking messing anything up. :D

The Hey Siri really is a huge improvement. I was just testing it out after reading your comment and I was very impressed.

reading all the feedbacks, i'm glad i went with a used pair of gen 1 instead of spending 200 on a gen 2. i only need it for long conference calls and not a fan of siri.

They are exactly the same shape as the old ones since they have interchangeable charging cases.

Yeah, thought so. I’ve just got home and am trying them out now. They sound great. Thing is with me is that they’re great for use around the house but as soon as I use in my car they kind of dislodge and I have to keep pressing them back in.

Out of interest what did you expect from the feedback that hasn’t materialised?

If you’re using them for long conference calls, Gen 2 is a no brainer. 50% longer talk time. I wouldn’t go near a used pair of Gen 1. The battery is pretty poor after X amount of time.

as long as the battery life last 2 hours, which is usually how long my conference call is, i guess im good with the gen 1.

I completely agree. And while I do not consider myself germ-phobic, I would never go near any used pair of headphones. But, that's just me...

Even 1st gen works fine for long conference calls. I use one at a time for calls and when the battery in the one I am using is getting low, I switch to the other. Always using one and charging one.

The fun part when using one at a time is trying to switch off and keep the usage comparable between the two so the batteries wear evenly.

I love mine so far but needed a slight boost to reach the wireless charging at my office. Keeping an eye out for AirPower!

Thanks for the feedback...

Part or all of the sound improvement could be due to the new firmware. The Airpod 2 speakers are supposed to be the same as the Gen 1s. The good news is that the Gen 1s got a new firmware update yesterday with new Airpod release. The Gen 1s sound better with their new firmware. If If you still have the Gen 1 Airpods, it could be fun to update the firmware on the Gen 1s and then compare the sound quality between the 2 versions.
how do you update the firmware?

So I haven't seen this mentioned anywhere. Do the new features utilizing the H1 chip (bluetooth 5.0) require a bluetooth 5.0 device?

For example, I bought the new airpods for my wife and she has an iPhone 7 which does not have bluetooth 5.0. So will she still get the faster pairing, reduced latency, increased range, longer battery life? Don't both devices have to be bluetooth 5 to take advantage of the new tech?

It’s an automatic-in the background thing.

I just checked my v1’s & they’re updated. Curious to hear if sound is any better...

I would think so.

So is the 8 Apple’s first BT5 iPhone?

Yes, both devices have to support Bluetooth 5 in order to get all the benefits. It’s hard to say which improvements are because of Bluetooth 5 and which are coming from the Apple’s custom chip. For example, in comparison videos I watched, between AirPods 1 and galaxy buds, the AirPods were having bigger range even if they use Bluetooth 4 and galaxy buds use Bluetooth 5.

My first pair of AirPods. Sound is surprisingly good. Didn't expect them to be this good (I normally use B&W PX headphones). The ease of use is awesome. Hey Siri works great (though controlling with Apple Watch is even better...). I'm really happy with them!
So do you have the Gen 2 AirPods and they are working with your Apple Watch? I hear rumours that the gen 2”s need watchOS 5.2 to work?

So It'll be the same thing with Apple Watches before 4. Shouldn't Apple put this stuff in fine print saying that some features only work with iPhone 8 and Apple Watch 4 or higher? I hope there are some comparisons made with the new airpods connected to BT4 vs BT5 devices. I would like to see the difference.

so there's no way the new ones will work without the latest Mac OS? i use my 1st gen for conf calls through my work Macbook Pro, but I'm stuck on High Sierra. IT won't let us upgrade.

They will work but some features/improvements might be missing. Also it might not recognise them as AirPods and just as regular headphones (not sure about that).
