How are everyone’s Ear cushions holding up?
Still feel new and I wear almost every day for hours but I wonder if I should order replacements now to have just in case or wait till maybe other retailers get them

Thats the question I have. Are the replaceable because they want us to customize or do they wear easily? Two weeks or so in and I don’t see any wear but still...

My assumption is that fabric will last somewhere in between real leather and faux leather. They are probably replaceable for customisation and cleanliness purposes.

Both. Any quality headphone will have pads that simply break down over time. Think of it like an expensive bed frame. You'd be pretty mad if the mattress couldn't be uncoupled/replaced after time!

I wondered about the head band fabric tension. But it looks like it is fully replaceable. Presumably, this will be offered by Apple or 3rd party manufactures at some point?

Hi everyone. I have been hesitating for quite a while to buy those AirPods max. Now, I have seen that the white and green and dirty very quickly with a lot of stains. How is it with the blue and pink versions?

Also, I am under the impression that the headband of the pink is actually kind of reddish...is that right? it would make them a bit less stain-prone I would think. Also, it looks probably a bit less 'girly' (I am a guy ;-))

thanks!

EDIT : oh and what about pairing with a Windows 10 PC as well as sound quality ? I read about terrible sound quality...I have a lot of apple products but at work I have to stick with a PC and due to COVID, I have a lot of virtual meetings nowadays...

For what it’s worth, I have silver and it’s not dirty at all after about 3 weeks.
Still not 100% I’ll keep them but they do seem to hold up well.

after sending my first pair back due to discomfort, i decided to try again when amazon UK had them for 20% off. maybe i hadn't adjusted the first ones correctly, as these seem more comfortable and i can wear them for hours at a time without issue.

when i compare them to my old QC35s which i believe retailed at about £330 at launch, a £100 premium for the vastly improved build and sound quality seems worth it. the earcups on my QC35s have fallen apart, and funnily enough the on/off switch is broken too, which means i cannot pair new devices with them. neither of these will be an issue with the airpods max so i see them lasting me many years to come.

i've now had them over a month, and have used them every single day. working from home they're on my head constantly, and i'm also using them for music & tv in the evening, when it would be too late to run my sound system and sub. if you can find them for a good price i really couldn't recommend them enough!

Just a 2 quick questions about the materials:
1. Does the soft touch part of the headband feel like it’s made of silicone like the Apple cases or something else?
2. Does the canopy mesh seem durable/in your opinion would it be easy to clean on the white model?

Also can you go a little more in depth about the sound quality?
The mesh fabric is polyurethane. It is a marvel of textile engineering: densely woven yet elastic and ventilated. And the transition between fabric and polyurethane-covered steel headband is simply amazing. And the way that the headphones float on this mesh when on your head is part of why they are so comfortable. (I hardly know I'm wearing them.)

As for cleaning, I will not hesitate to clean my silver APM frame if necessary. However, here's how mine looks after almost three months of daily use.

The smart case is like the smart case for the iPads. It's plastic and definitely not leather.
The APM smart case is much thicker than the iPad Pro Smart Keyboard cover. It's more "pleather" like. I know opinions differ on the case, but I personally love the design as it's all that I need.
Does the volume go up fairly high? Could a person with hearing impairment get enjoyment from these?
For me, the volume goes up VERY high. (Understatement). More importantly, I use my APM with Headphone Accommodations and I use a custom audiogram which compensates for my age-related hearing loss. (Settings<Accessibility<Headphone Accommodations<Custom Audio Setup) The result is vastly improved sound quality, with more clarity and presence.

Every day I use my APM I appreciate them more.

The smart case and earcups look good as new after a wash. The headband looks a bit yellow post wash. I have also managed to tear up the plastic holes to remove the headband a tiny bit.

Anyone else having quality issues with the silver AirPods Max?

I bought them this morning and after unpacking I noticed some scratches on the aluminum. I went back to the Apple Store for an exchange.

Guess what... also some scratches out of the box ;-(
Not Silver, but my engraved Sky Blue pair arrived last week with a couple of sizeable chips in the aluminum on top of the right ear cup straight out of the box. Needless to say, they were returned immediately and a replacement arranged. ?

Finally got to test a pair of these. Admittedly it was brief but I thought they were quite bass heavy. Noice cancelling great, build quality amazing and controls very good but SQ not for me.

I suggest that any test is incomplete without also trying out Headphone Accommodations (under Accessibility<Audio/Visual.

I thought my APM were wonderful. But after enabling a custom audiogram they are outstanding! Wonderful clarity and presence. There are also presets you can experiment with.

I ordered to have a spare pair just in case. Post having it, i would say it has been worth it. I wash earcups min. Once a week and it is nice to have spares to snap on and not have to wait for them to dry. Plus with them being magnetic there is always the possibility i drop them in mud or something nasty. Don’t want to be at the mercy of shipping in that case. I keep spare AirPod pro tips for the same.
Only regret is the out of stock blue color, I got black and they don’t look anything special on the white model.

First flight for me done with the APMs. I’m happy with the noise cancellation, better than my old Sennheiser Momentum’s for sure!

Absolutely - I only had them for a few mins. Good to hear that customisation is available beyond the hidden away (and poor) EQ settings for AirPods etc.

Had them since day one of launch. These are easily the best headphones I've ever used. And I've had the popular Sony and Bose models. Very comfortable to wear, despite being a little heavy out of the box. Sound quality is great. Pairing with Apple devices is easy and outstanding (in fact, these have fewer issues with switching devices than my AirPods Pro, which leads me to believe that there's better hardware in these).

This is for the big headed folks , you know who you are!! are APM comfortable ? I fear that they might be great for the "normal" heads out there , but for the bigger ones ... it might clamp too hard.

I have a huge head. I hardly know I’m wearing my APM. The ear pads float around my ears (and my glasses!) and the mesh fabric of the frame floats on my head. Perhaps head shape is a factor in why some users find the clamping force too hard?

There’s a thread on here about stretching them out if the clamping force is uncomfortable. https://forums.macrumors.com/thread...do-this-also-a-short-audiophile-take.2276593/
