John Lewis showing 6 in stock for silver guessing they won’t be around long no other colour in stock. Agree with the other uk people on basically impossible to get them anywhere. Apple seem to be shipping the space grey out pretty quickly if you go down that route. Any thoughts on ee when they will have them in stock? As I’m with ee and wanted to get a pair on the add to plan. But checking there site says awaiting stock and been stuck saying that forever now.

For people in the uk I was surprised to see they are showing up on maplin website obviously always out of stock thou. If people want to keep an eye on them on there not sure how maplin is with there stock never brought anything from maplin before.

Also laptop directs never had any dealings with them or heard of them so not sure if they are a reliable source. But claiming delivery on or before the 29th of January.

I'm really tempted to order me a pair of space grey Max's, to anyone who already owns them:

Bass - how good is the bass on the headphones? I currently have Beats studios 3 which aren't quite bassey enough for me - I've previously had Beats Pro's which were better, I've never owned Bose/Sony high-end NC headphones so not sure what they're like - from what I'm reading the AirPods Max are in a different league to Beats Studios/Pro's?
I listen to a lot of Rock & Hip-Hop music to bass response is quite important to me.

Headhand Cleanability - what material is this made from & how cleanable is it? I like to look after my Apple products, not least for resaleability, so like to keep things like this clean. The removable/replaceable earcups are great, assuming the headband is some sort of silicone material that can be wiped clean?

So I’ve ditched the Apple order for Blue and instead got a Space Grey pair from John Lewis, arriving tomorrow. Very nearly went for silver in the end but think space grey will keep cleaner. Can’t wait. (Literally couldn’t wait the 10 weeks quoted for blue) I want them to get though lockdown!

Blue is it. I like it a lot better than the grey I bought at launch. One early caveat, dust shows off clearly with the Blue over the black.

I ran into a neighbour this morning who just so happened to be wearing them. While they admitted they'd only used it for a couple hours thus far, they noted that sound quality was kind of inconsistent. Newer songs (say 2015-present) obviously performed better than older ones. Though within the newer ones, some appeared to sound more immersive. They were really gushing about b. eilish, a. grande, & certain gaga tracks. Even joking that they seemed to be "mastered for APM". The other tracks weren't horrible sounding by any stretch. They just lacked that same sense of richness and immersion.

Anyone else who's gotten theirs yet, noticing this?

I don't think it's enough to make me reconsider right now. However it might become disappointing if there really is such a large drop-off.

Apple music sounds better with a newer iPhone 12 vs iPhone X. TIDAL sounds better than Apple Music and I am talking about older recordings, like from the Beatles, Sinatra, jazz, etc. 80s music and up with Apple Music and Spotify improved with the Max over the pros. As you said, modern recordings sounded the best.

Meh, this is entirely anecdotal so it carries no weight with me. At the end of the day they’re just speakers. Obviously the mastering on modern tracks is better.

I'm also coming from Studio 3s. I'm expecting less bass-heavy, but tighter, more controlled and more (some!) sub-bass from the reviews I have read. How will that work for the dubstep I enjoy I don't yet know. Some reviewer (Max Tech I think) said they upped the bass to get more from some tracks, but then it was too much for others and they went back to default and decided it's really down to the mix as recorded and if there is less bass then that's what the artist wanted. I'm intrigued to know what that means in practice for my musical tastes.

Man they must be amazing if they make Billie Eilish and Ariana Grande sound good! :D

Only partially true. They could very easily show up the inadequacies of older recordings because they are way better than the "just speakers" that were used in the studio at the time of the original recording. Not to say there aren't awesome old recordings, but not everyone had (or chose to spend) the money needed to achieve that for popular / contemporary music recordings in an era when high end was much more unaffordable than it is today.

Not sure if this is sarcasm lol. Those were their words, not mine. I don't judge people on their preferred artists. 😜

I hope the APMs aren't so good that they become like the "true level" skit from Rick & Morty. Once you notice all the imperfections then you can't enjoy those songs same as before. 😂

It was being facetious - it’s not my taste, hence the comment, but meant in jest and not judging anyone if they disagree.

I’m not familiar with the skit, but I guess that’s a real danger. Even my Studio 3s make one particular artist I enjoyed in my teens sound muddy in a way I don’t remember when I tried to take a wander down memory lane a while back.

I agree with you here, but what I’m saying is that I don’t think they’re going to skew toward making any specific genres or time periods sound unfairly good. By “just speakers” I mean that they have no bias, and they’ll just show what is.

also I wonder if this neighbor listens exclusively over Bluetooth or uses the wire. Again, that’ll have no bias and won’t make any one genre sound good/bad, but all music will be elevated (slightly) when listening via the wire.

I’ve had my lightning to 3.5mm raring to go for almost two weeks now....

So I was able to grab a pair of sky blue off Amazon warehouse listed as "used - like new" for $425 bucks at a random hour of the night, 2am pst last Wednesday. They just arrived today, factory sealed. They look brand new. I'm a bit shocked, hopefully others can take advantage of this if it pops up randomly again. Anyway i grabbed them with a wired cord and am enjoying them quite a bit. The blue looks beautiful.

Oh, totally agreed - they are only going to make music sound better or worse in line with the quality of the production, regardless of the age or genre.

Inspired by you I just bought Silver (my preferred color) from Amazon for $443 with delivery January 27. If all goes well I’ll cancel my Apple order. Getting $100+ off will help assuage my guilt at not waiting til summer to order.

Well that made my day, I'm happy you were able to find a pair at this price! You will enjoy them very much. It's a fantastic deal.

I have to say this has been my experience as well. I'm listening using Apple Music and for me the newer releases do sound more immersive. The Helena Deeland album from last year and the new Weather Station songs sound incredible. the older music I've listened to, Bowie, Led Zeppelin, still sound great but for whatever reason not up to the level of the more recently recorded music. I guess it must be something to do with the mixing od the sound.
