its because technology and how music is recorded is different now vs then
This is worrisome to me. Generally newer music is mastered with compressed dynamics. On a good headphone or stereo it sounds flat and lifeless. Older music, from before the loudness war started, was mastered with much better dynamic range and sounds better than newer music on a good headphone or stereo. Sometimes even new "remasters" of older albums sound worse than the original because the remaster has increased loudness.This is a very general statement and there is some new music that is mastered without excessive loudness and loss of dynamic range. There are also some remasters that have excellent sound and dynamics. I have been trying to find some APMs but they may have optimized them to sound better with modern mastering so they may not be the headphone for me.
At a guess, as I have zero knowledge of the facts here, somebody bought the name and domain from the wreckage when they went bust and is using it in an entirely separate online only business because it a well known name in the UK.
Where I am in Oxford we still have a maplin store it’s a pretty big one also. Not sure how many stores they still have up and running in the uk. But definitely have one up and running till this day in my city.
Ahh, OK. I left the UK in early 2008 and my understanding was they all closed, so I stand corrected. In that case they either managed to sort out some way of trading on in their most viable sites or somebody bought the entire brand and is running some bricks and mortar. My guess is the former in that case.
Here in NZ we lost probably the closest thing we had to Maplins a few years ago (pre-Covid; they just mismanaged inventory and managed to get themselves upside-down with the value / saleability of their stock as I understood it at the time). It came back a bit later on-line only. It's a little bit muddier here though as there was also an Australian side (parent?) with the same name that wasn't involved in the NZ collapse. I think the on-line stuff is run from Aus, so maybe the Aus company is what is trading now in NZ, just with no stores and inventory all held in Australia.
I’m excited - my sky blue APM have made it to Richmond.....they are set to be delivered tomorrow if USPS can get it right. I’m about 45 mins south of there and on occasion delivery dates get pushed back one day. Amazon says they will be delivered tomorrow and they have made it from Oregon to Virginia in under 24 hours - Amazon ops is impressive. Thanks to all that helped me score them!
You're the one that took them! I was on Amazon and saw those available and clicked add to cart, but they were gone by then and wouldn't show up in my cart. I'm glad someone from here got them... the silvers I got were flawless.

You need to take a break, get them set up, and then jump back on your conf calls using the APMs - they shine in that capacity! Yeah noticed that also John Lewis seem to be getting stock in quite regular compared to other places. The last batch they had in didn’t last long at all sold out fast guessing it will be the same for this batch also.
I can still get SG from a reseller here in NZ at a small discount - I guess nobody is buying them. I just want the ability to return if the clamping is uncomfortable for me or I'd have had them last week. No movement from 16-22 Feb on my apple order from 11th Dec, of course...
Mixed news on my end. Unfortunately my wait’s gonna be a bit longer since I had to cancel my Dec 11 order. That being said, I also placed a new one yesterday with delivery Mar 24-Apr 7. Just now I checked the status and it has been updated to Mar 10-17. Perhaps I’m lucky, or maybe Apple is finally going to focus on filling their own orders.
More likely the former rather than the latter. I ordered a sky blue set on Dec 17 with a late Mar ETA originally. A few days after I placed the order it was updated to Feb 17-Mar 3 and sit at that date range still. Sigh.This is the US. Alas, with all the problems people have been reporting, I really want to buy from Apple, so I can return them if battery or condensation issues rear their ugly head(s). Plus there's the 3% (paltry but more than nothing) that I get back from my Apple Card.
