I'm getting connection drops when outdoors, away from buildings. Indoors and around buildings, no problems.
I've got an appointment to have my AirPods looked at in store on the weekend. Likely they'll replace them.
Does anything know if Apple readily provides a new set in store? Or will I have to wait for stock to come in like a new purchase?
It's a hassle because I want to keep a set of bluetooth headphones on me for the gym.

I went in for an exchange (due to slow motion voice on incoming calls) and after asking me a script of use-case questions, they came out with a box without branding replacing ONLY the two AirPods themselves and not the case. They most likely have some inventory set aside for returns based on my experience.

Your situation is the same as mine. I get no drops indoors but lots outdoors away from building and possible interference.

I'm interested, which iPhone do you have and do you have an Apple Watch. 6s Plus and Series 2 AW here. I have an open ticket with support but they seem to be completely stumped with this issue. I believe it to be something to do with mobile connection as it doesn't happen at home when on wifi. It's most certainly something to do without Apple Watch. It's like there's too many connections going on and this is when the drop happens.

They have replacements available in store.

Interested to know what happens though. I needed only the right bud replaced. Genius asked for a right and they borught up a box labeled "R". Opened it and went to put it in and it was clearly a L. He called to the back again and they brought up a box labeled "L" and sure enough, the bud inside was actually a R.

Seems they got their labeling reversed on the replacement buds.

I mainly use my beloved iPhone SE and streaming Apple Music on seriously good 4G, but it also happens with my work iPhone 7 and playing downloaded podcasts using the standard iOS app. I ditched my Apple Watch so I can report it occurs with or without using one.

All of the sudden now I'm getting lots of audio drops, on both iPad and iPhone.

Every time I begin using them, within about 2 minutes they drop, and then reconnect. And usually they are fine after that for a while, may or may not drop again later.

Trying to decide if this relates to a recent 10.3 beta, or if it is the AirPods themselves.

I'm on 10.3b6 and I am not having any problems.

Bought the AirPods, liked them very much, but got horrible hissing and static noise as soon as the microphone kicks in for calls etc. (definitely not talking about normal Bluetooth background hissing here). Gave them back and - after several people here told me that their AirPods sound perfect even when doing calls – bought another pair of AirPods today, hoping that my first ones were defective. Unfortunately, same horrible phone call hissing.

If it is only me experiencing this problem, I really don't know what part of my individuell configuration does cause it. I am on the newest AirPods firmware, I tried with and without my Apple Watch paired, with "normal" and wifi calling (in case of interfering cell phone radiation noise). No luck. Really a pity as I love the AirPods otherwise much more that I would have thought.

I'm glad other are experiencing the same
issues here. I've had my iPhone replaced due to them thinking that it's Bluetooth issues. This makes me believe that it's software and not hardware. I've just downloaded the latest iOS public beta to see if there's been a fix implemented.

I ordered Feb 12 with an expected delivery date of March 29.
That's less than 2 weeks from now and not showing any shipment yet so I think it's going to be true to expected date.

No just a temporary hold they charge when they ship.

I agree, iStockNow is fantastic. I've grabbed several pairs at local stores for friends and family with minimal effort.

I might have gotten lucky, but I ordered from Walmart on Monday and got them yesterday. There's no reason you should be waiting 6 weeks.

Got my AirPods a couple of days ago. They were unfortunately DOA. They would connect to all my devices but as soon as I'd play something they would crackle & pop and after a few seconds drop the connection altogether. I re-paired them, reset them, tried with different devices etc. but the problem persisted. Now waiting to receive a working pair! Hopefully soon..

Well, I lost my Bluebuds bluetooth earbuds the other day, so now I find myself considering AirPods as the replacement. But I'm really on the fence. On the one hand, I've read many positive reviews. On the other hand, I'm reading about various glitches and bugs (like the ones discussed in the posts above), which is completely contrary to the claim that the W1 makes these the most reliable bluetooth buds you can buy. Also the lack of sound isolation, while preferable at times, is also a drawback in some situations.

I'm guessing the second generation AirPods will have a noise cancellation feature that can be turned on and off, and improved hardware. But it might be more than a year before we see a hardware refresh.

What to do, what to do...
