It's really not THAT seamless, sadly. While they work just great when they're working, my wife and I are both experiencing peculiarities. Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't give them up, but they definitely need a firmware update.

1.) Sometimes when removing one from the case, it can take over 10 seconds to connect, and sometimes it won't connect at all - to my iPhone 7 Plus (latest iOS). I then have to put it back in the case, remove it, and then it works.

2.) The double tap to invoke Siri sometimes refuses to work. Again, put back in the case, or manually make a call - fixes it.

There's definitely a feeling of not-quite-finished in regards the software side of things here.

Still, I do love them...
That doesn't sound right... it should instantly connect. Every time. Either there is something wrong with the phone software or the airpods could be defective.
Double tap took me some trial and error to trigger reliably. You just need to figure out the spot where it will have maximum effect on the accelerometer. For me it's just above the stem.
Mine work flawlessly so far. They are so convenient that the usage on my other better sounding earphones (Bose qc20/Sennheiser IE80/Jaybird bluebud x) have reduced drastically.

Well then both my wife and I, and a good friend of mine - have defective EarPods (we've all had them since day 1 of release). It doesn't always instantly connect. Sometimes it does, and sometimes it doesn't. And the double tap does NOT work reliably every time. It works 100% every time the EarPods don't glitch out (that usually requires me to put them back in the case and take them back out). It's predictable - for us - at least. Because when they're working the double-tap works every single time. When they're not working, no amount of double tapping brings Siri out of hiding. This is not a hardware issue, clearly, but flakey software (along with peculiarities with the case - like standby battery life, and the LED occasionally lit brown with NO AirPods in there, even when the case is UNplugged! What's that about?!)

There's some oddness with the AirPods, but I suspect Apple will fix it rather than later.

FYI we're all on iPhone 7's or 7 Pluses.

I hear ya.. that certainly is odd if you are seeing it across multiple units. However, that's not my experience at all. And I have probably read up and watched all the reviews I could find online while waiting for them to ship (Ordered Dec 19, received Jan 16) and none reported these issues.
I wonder if some type of radio interference can cause them to misbehave, like in your case. In any case, its a great product and I hope your experience improves with the next update.

Oh don't get me wrong. I do love them. But they just need a few tweaks. Thankfully for myself/wifey, once they're connected they're essentially flawless.

Does your team do links as merchant referrals? If not, you really should. 1% kick-back on these sales for offering a great service to the community isn't a big deal that anyone would fault you for.

I only ask because here you linked to Verizon directly instead of a link synergy or some other service.

That's what we want, I put a longer answer in the spoil as we are totally OT on this.

I could do 3 things :
1. Post a direct link = makes the job, what the community expects. Can be re-affiliated to macrumors if they have that sort of mechanism and earn them a few quids. Can help you and the forum, perfect.
2. Post an affiliate link = it's crossing the red line to me, not here to make money, but to help. Than you can wonder if i'm here to spam affiliate links or to share information.
3. Post a link to iSN = trying to benefit from the community to promote a service. 0 added value for the community, add a non useful middle step to reach the product.

Service is free and will stay so, no premium bullsh*t, no spamming emails, no obtrusive ads we all hate, delivering the best service we can and that's all.
iStockNow isn't a "business" it's a friendly service, see it as "user to user", "glad to help if we can". We refused donations, that's really not about money.
Answer may seem awkward in those days where every little thing is monetised, but that's how it's been running for 5+ years and how it will probably always will be. We have some costs so we don't ignore monetisation mechanisms, but that's not what we're running after.

Money is everywhere in our daily lives, let's just have fun and try to be helpful on this project.

Waited over a month, came to delivery day and I was traveling back from another state. I had marked the FedEx delivery to be dropped at the apartment management office but, mysteriously, before delivery it got marked "No signature required" and then " delivered". Surprise surprise when I got home no airpods. Either a neighbour or the FedEx man were light fingered :(

That royally sucks. So sorry.

It really sucks. I have a case open with FedEx and should hear from them in the next 24 hours. If I don't get any joy I'll talk to Apple. Honestly though I suspect I'm boned. It's not even the money that bothers me so much as the disappointment of waiting and ending up with nothing :(
