I verified the issue. Mojave 10.14.2 Beta 2 killed display sleep for me.
Screens are sleeping. I try to waken them up. First the right one turns on, two seconds later the left one. Then notifications show up and the login screen. Then both displays turn to black. Mac OS still gives them a black screen signal so they are receiving a signal.

Too bad!

I tested normal sleep: also crashes the displays. cMP wakes up, shows login and system notifications and then just shows a black image. Forever.

Hi. I want to flash my ASRock Phantom Gaming X with the bios from Sapphire Nitro+ RX Vega 64 (standard PCB) but had a few questions.

Read this in the main post: "not every card with a reference cooler may have a reference PCB, such as the ASRock Phantom Gaming X." Does this mean I can't flash my card? Later in the thread under the "RX Vega BIOS Compatibility" section, it shows my card in the list, so I'm guessing I can flash my card?

Regarding flashing, it says AtiFlash.exe -f -p 0 path-to-new-vbios.rom (with single card installed). The bios I want to use for my flash is the following: Sapphire Nitro+ RX Vega 64 (standard PCB): 113-D0500110-O01 (primary), 113-D0500110-S01 (secondary). Which file do I use in the AtiFlash command? Do I have to do both primary and secondary? Do I have to flip the switch on my card in order to flash to two bioses? Also, where do I get AtiFlash.exe? Should I check ASRock's website?

Thanks for the help!

I hope this is not a re-run of the 10.13.2 debacle that broke sleep on Polaris cards!!!?.... In which, wasn't addressed until 10.13.4....

Just replaced the 7970 in my 2009 - 5,1 Mac Pro with an RX 580. I did this after updating to 10.14.1. Had to order the dual 4pin to 8pin power adapter from Ebay as well as a mini-display to display port adapter for my Apple Cinema Display monitor. So far everything seems to be running fine. Found the 580 used on ebay for $135. Just thought I'd share my experience. I'll be looking to get a 4k monitor soon.

I suggest filing a bug report on the online bug report website. Include the build number of the OS in the title of the report.

I don't know if the ASRock card can be flashed with another BIOS or not. You may want to do some searching online. I think it has a custom PCB because I've read it has Hynix memory, although that could be based on the incorrect assumption that all reference PCBs have Samsung memory. I don't know which Nitro+ 64 BIOS people are using. I don't think anyone has said.

Frozen, no possibility to enter the password.
I‘ve deactivated Mac and display sleep now.

New RX 590 leaked. This one is certainly interesting as it is powered by a single 8-Pin power connector. Hopefully we'll see more of these single 8-pin cards.

Looking forward to the benchmarks on these. I found my RX 580 to be a bit lacking when sim racing VR and, although I should probably just go Vega, I'm interested to see what gains this brings to the table. The expectation is that it should sit between the GTX 1060 and GTX 1070. I'm hoping closer to the 1070.

--Edit--

TechPowerUp now has images of the HIS Radeon RX 590 IceQ X², also a single 8-pin powered card

--Edit--

Official press release now out for PowerColor Red Devil RX 590 8GB GDDR5

Cool, thanks. Should work fine under macOS then. Just not identified correctly yet in About This Mac, etc.
[doublepost=1542223406][/doublepost]I wonder if we edit an RX 590 vBIOS with the model number of the dev kit Pulse 580 it will use the Orinoco framebuffer. I bet it will.

I think it will.

It's too bad that I have the V1 PULSE RX580, not the V2 (with dual ROM), otherwise, I will definitely try to flash it with the RX590 ROM and see what will happen (when it available).

It would be interesting to know if the RX 580 works with the 590 ROM. I don’t know if the difference in architecture would allow that (12nm vs 14nm).

if you want to flash a 590 on to a 580 you have to check it has the same controller for the power stages or it's not going to be happy, the Polaris bios mods RX 480->580 had to match cards with same voltage controller or they cut the bios up to keep parts needed and replace the other parts.
so RX 480 nitro got flashed to a rx 580 pulse but the nitro + had a different controller so it had to be edited

im interested in the new card to see what performance and power use changes they get from the shrink + new factory with slightly different manufacturing (looks like each of the big fabs have different copyrights on how to make stuff)

Id relay love to see a low end vega card, from what iv read there power use at low clocks is relay low but i suspect this coming gen is just going to be a stop gap till some time next year at least

I have a Asus RX 460 2GB with Hynix memory flashed to a Sapphire Pulse 560 2GB, interestingly enough the Mojave Installer wouldn't run with it plugged in even though it reports later as metal family 2v1, and I am not getting any hardware accelerated hevc decoding in 10.14.0 18A391.

I ordered a Vega FE today, so I should have it in a week or two and start tinkering. So long as we're able to modify the Soft Power Play tables without making firmware signing unhappy, I think that's going to be the best avenue for success. Power Play fan modifications shouldn't matter to much in Windows, which can modify the table just fine, but should make things work on MacOS without any loading of kexts.

Just got done flashing, the sapphire nitro 64 bios worked perfectly. Fans are finally behaving properly in Mac OS.

Newegg has the Sapphire Radeon RX Vega 64 on sale for $399.99 w free shipping and free returns:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/382598638615

I just ordered one and will flash it to the Nitro 64 Bios. I have a PC with Win XP, can I use that or do I need WIn7 bootcamp?

Does this card still have any high or low speed fan issues after flashing when installed in the Mac Pro 5.1 w Mojave 10.14.1?

Cheers

Why would they sell it on eBay for less?????

Lou

It's available on their website for the same price with a promo code they sent via email.

You can flash it on the PC.
[doublepost=1542341810][/doublepost]RX 590 reviews are out. It looks like it's not a good match for a cMP unless it has pixlas mod. Power consumption is higher than reference RX Vega 56 maxed out (Furmark). Also has higher idle consumption, especially with multi-monitor. I don't think flashing an RX 580 with a 590 ROM would be a good idea. Maybe a Nitro+ 580 with both power connectors connected, but not definitely not a Pulse 580. It looks like AMD is trying to squeeze the last bit of performance out of Polaris with this refresh.

Thankyou! :)

FYI I think the Newegg code is a "10% off coupon EMCEEPX32" so about ~$405.00? It does come with download codes to download 3 PC games: Assassin's Creed Odyssey, Strange Brigade, and Star Control: Origins. Did not care about the games, and the ebay link offered free returns and shipping.

MisterAndrew, (I’m new to thread posting) I ordered the RX 590 (sapphire Radeon Nitro+) in hopes that it would work in a 5,1 (FYI: I don’t game at all but I use FCPX regularly). I was planning on powering the card by doing the following:

590 Card’s 8-pin powered by: 2 mini six pin to 1 eight pin adapter (power from logic board)
590 Card’s 6-pin powered by: SATA to six pin adapter (power from one of the hard drive bays)

What are your thoughts? Good idea, bad idea, should I pull power from elsewhere? Or just invest in a new PSU (which I know nothing about).

Is there anything else I should do to get this card to work software wise?

Thank to you or anyone who can help me. :)

Most likely will be fine. FCPX isn't that demanding. And I don't think the card will heavily rely on the 6pin.

However, if you care about numbers, SATA only rated up to 55W, and a single 6pin can draw up to 75W by default. Also, SATA port never designed to handle GPU power spike.

So, technically you can kill the port or logic board by drawing too much from a SATA port.

I will say the chance is very low. But, could happen. You better know what you are doing.

H9826790, thank you for answering my question and helping me.
Question: what if I drew power from two SATA ports?
Dual SATA to a one six pin adaptor

Good idea? Or no?

If it helps, I've been running 8pin + 6pin powered GPUs in my Mac Pro for years without issue by using a dual Sata to one six pin adapter for that connector on the GPU. To further protect against power spikes, one can also use the EVGA Powerlink if it fits your GPU.

Can you guys confirm that those DeviceIDs are already apparent in Apple Kexts?

Both are supposedly Mac Pro Vega 20 GPUs...
