No Navi support in 10.15.1 beta just in case anyone's curious.

Interesting, I expect the driver is there.

Or again, some artificial limitation to make it only work as eGPU?

The notes may be slightly out of sync with what’s actually in the beta build. There’s been cases in the past where features would be listed in the notes but wouldn’t appear in the actual beta until a few builds later.

Just FYI, since your post, this has been removed.

Interesting.. Somebody leaking stuff or just a misstep?

IT Sage at egpu checked and said the drivers aren't present. Think I saw that on twitter vs. the forum.

RX 5500 is not supported. That may be disappointing news for some cMP users.

On the other hand, there are 6 unknown GPUs that may be featured in new Macs.

Those with RX 5700 (XT) (50th) models check to see what the frame buffer is. The drivers list 2 specific Navi frame buffer personalities called Adder and Ikaheka.

That's not bad at all. Just a little behind RX Vega 56.

Do you have the card installed in a cMP or in an eGPU enclosure?
Maybe it's better to say very bad, since a Vega 56 can be bought new from Newegg for $300, while the cheapest 5700XT will cost $400…

Anyway, we all knew beforehand that Navi would be worse compute cards than VEGA.

The 5700XT beats the vega 56 and 64 in benchmarks under Windows. It is equivalent to the Radeon VII and on the same performance level as Nvidia's RTX 2070 Super.

The macos Navi drivers are not fully optimised yet.

Damn, I didn't realize those numbers are lower than vega 56. Hope they're working overtime on the drivers.

I don’t think we’ll see a huge improvement with better drivers. The Navi architecture wasn’t designed for compute workloads.

For gaming yes, but not for compute. Navi isn’t very suitable for workstation tasks.

Navi is 20~30% more power efficient than Vega, but with half the thread load, with GDDR6 versus HBM2…

My understanding that's not because of the platform / driver, but because those reviews base on gaming.

For compute, 5700XT is nowhere near the Radeon VII.

This is a 5700XT review under Windows. In fact, only Luxball can match the Vega / 2070 Super performance. When the scene getting more complex. Its compute performance drop to about 50% of a Vega 64 can do.

My apologies - I wasn't precise. I was referring to the gaming and not compute benchmarks of the 5700XT.

In terms of price/performance yields and noise levels, the 5700XT triumphs current AMD lineup with the 5800XT/RDNA 2.0/7nm+ launch next year expected to widen RDNA's architecture lead and yields with 30% ~ 40% performance increase over the 5700XT and with more compute units. Also, there are rumors that 5700XT will get software-based ray tracing this year while the 5800/6XXX XT will get hardware based RT.

Keep in mind that AMD is also working on Radeon VII's upcoming 7nm+ production and will be releasing it next year so buying a current VII release at current high prices new/used, makes no financial sense. Just realized that I misunderstood AMD news releases/leaks on Navi23 which will triumph the VII. The Radeon VII is 7nm and will not be released again/EOP. I'd still question whether it is a good buy at this time. You also need to mod the electricals of the cMP to get the Vega 64/Radeon VII to play nicely. I'd like to keep mine original. I'll only consider the VII when I can use it safely in my cMP without any hardware modifications or when building a new PC.

One thing to look out for from AMD next year is their high-end Navi 23/RDNA 2 offerings referred to as "The Nvidia Killer" internally at AMD. With Apple likely to continue using AMD's lineup of products, we should hopefully continue to see support for the new GPUs in macos.

Edit: corrections
