Since I haven't seen it mentioned in this thread at least. For those complaining about the size of these cards, I got my hands on a Dell (Alienware) 6800 XT, and thanks to @Syncretic it's working perfectly, at least for my use cases. 2-slot, and doesn't require a PCI fan mod. Still wish MFC could react to the GPU temps, but according to RadeonGadget, this thing seems to run cooler than my reference RX580 while dancing on its grave.

Nice find! So you can only get it when someone pulls it from there Alienware computer and sells it on eBay?

Sonnet sells 2 slot reference cards:

the specs at SonnetTech seem to suggest otherwise

  • Code:
    Full-length, Full-height, 2.5-Card Width PCIe Card
there is example of 2-Slot AMD Reference here, but if it is really 2-slot rather than 2,5 cannot say with certainty

EDIT: if someone can get Radeon 6700/XT to be included in the compatibility for MacOS and MacPro, then the list for 2-Slot cards would be sensibly enhanced.

Oh sorry I never looked at the specs. I don’t recall how much space it took on the inside but I could swear I can still use slot 2 inside the 7,1. Or does the 7,1 provide 2.5x of space?

Ok, now we're twisting things... The original post about using a Dell Reference 6k series card was in regard to the space limitations within the 5,1, NOT the 7,1...

The reference 6800XT and 6900XT are both 2.5 slots cards. Only the 6800 is dual slots wide.

^^^^Don't think so. The specs for the W6800 are identical to the RX6800, not the XT, except for the the 32GB of memory.

Awesome! Been following this thread on and off trying to decide if I revive my old 5.1. Had lightly contemplated the idea of installing one of the 2 slot water cooled cards, but only as far as looking at prices, not whether it would even be viable. Have just ordered one of these Alienware cards, cheers!

Guess I'd better get my arse into gear sorting a Pixlas mod, and figuring out what EFI updates are needed etc, been running factory so far. Proper 5.1 (not a flashed 4.1) with 96GB RAM like yours, was running a 980Ti which will obviously be replaced, plus currently booting from a Highpoint 7101A. Can't tell from your pic what you might be booting from. I know there used to be issues booting from those cards with modded EFI a couple of years ago, not sure if that has been resolved.

Off topic, but can I ask what PCI cards you have in yours, what you are booting from and what EFI mods etc you did to the general machine itself?

I have 2x four port USB 3.0 Sonnet Allegro Pro's, which sadly Sonnet doesn't sell any more. Each port has a dedicated USB controller, which seems to be necessary for some of my audio gear, USB 3.0 KVM and Elgato CamLink 4K. Also, I am running an ATTO NS11 10Gb SFP+ card (I run 10Gb fiber in the house, don't look at me weird. I'm not weird, you're weird.)

As for boot EFI, I'm running @h9826790 's (Martin Lo's) 0.8.0 Open Core package/config posted here, for AMD Hardware Acceleration (if I remember correctly his package already has the dependancies needed to run this card, mentioned by @Syncretic). Running Monterey 12.4 at the moment.

My only other mods are just having upgraded to X5690's and re-pinned Noctua A12x25's for the Intake and Exhaust fans, but I'm actually planning on installing/modding a Noctua NF-A9 for the PCI fan using a Voltage to PWM converter this weekend, also going to change out the PSU fan once I figure out removing a stripped hex screw holding in the power supply, aaaaannd I'm thinking of plopping a small fan on the Northbridge once I figure out how to grab power with all my SATA bays filled.

FYI: The the Alienware card, I used one of my Windows PC's to flash the GPU using the "Dell" ROM, in the "All6800Patched.zip" package @Syncretic posted in post #909 (it matched my ROM exactly, but do check yours first to be safe). I used the Windows amdvbflash program.

@Syncretic, appreciate your work on patching the RX6x000 cards to work on the MacPros.

Would it possible to examine the VBIOS of the W6800 and see if the patcher can be updated to make it work for that card as well?

Sorry for the delay; I have been away from the Mac world for some time now. Hopefully, I'll be around a lot more starting sometime next month.

The W6800's code is only slightly different from the code on the RX6x00 cards, but by design, that's enough to confound my earlier patcher (it won't even attempt a patch if it's not completely certain the code is compatible).

Attached is a patched version of the W6800 reference BIOS from TechPowerUp.com - if your card uses a different version, dump the ROM and PM it to me, and I'll have a look when I get back from holiday. IMPORTANT NOTE: I do not own a W6800, so the attached ROM has not been tested - whoever tries this is the guinea pig for this ROM. (That said, the patch is basically identical to the earlier ones, so it seems likely it should work without issues.)

Nice find! The PCB markings look like this card is made my MSI.

The backplate screws also seem to match other MSI cards. It just has a thinner heatsink and fans.

It might be similar to what MSI did with the RX 580 mini; that card appeared to be the same board as their Reference Model a with different heatsink configuration.

Thank you for the modified ROM from TechPowerUp. Will check it against mine when I have access to a PC, will also send you the ROM from my W6800 as well.

Appreciate your reply.

Legend, thanks a mill, that will get me rolling in the right direction, just waiting on my card and pixlas wiring kit. Just need to figure out if I can flash it using my thunderbolt box or if I need to hunt down a mate with a windows desktop. Cross that bridge once it lands.

IMPORTANT NOTE: apparently, for the RX6x00(XT) to work with MacOS, you'll need to be running OpenCore, WhateverGreen, Lilu, and include agdpmod=pikera in your boot-args. Failure to do this will almost certainly result in a black screen after booting. (Again, I don't have a card to play with, so any questions regarding the boot-args or the specific configuration of OpenCore, WhateverGreen, and/or Lilu need to be asked of someone else.)

After a lot of reports about the successful operation of the 6000X GPU,
and especially after reports that the Radeon Pro W6800 was also successfully patched and working,
I ordered a new W6800 GPU.
And I have previously tested the ability to boot from eGPU to mac pro 4.1/5.1 on both mac and windows systems (since I do not have a modern windows computer, I will see what happens if I try to patch using egpu)

As far as I was able to study the topic, for the successful operation of the GPU, the bootargument=pickera is needed. Such arguments are in the config of Martin Lo and in the OCLP 4.9 - (but they are made on the basis of the 0.8.0)
and in the cdf configuration for the OC 0.8.3, which I use, spoofing MAC Pro 2019 is used (and boot arguments no needed)

I would like to ask those who have installed and are working with new GPUs,
have you modified the config and what kind of opencore do you use?

My CMP 4.1/5.1 dual cpu xeon 5680, 96gb RAM, radeonpro w5700, nvme crucial 2tb+msata crucial 1tb, evo plus 1tb, TB3 alpine ridge, oc 0.8.3, mac os 12.5

I have created an SSDT for my Navi21 and Navi23 cards, which mimics the respective W MPX modules in the MP71 to obtain best performance using findings in other forums. Of course you can use device properties as long as the GFX0 or GFX1 are not attached through pci-bridge device. If there is one ro more pci-bridge devices you need to create an SSDT-BRG0 like this:
very interesting!
Do you need to create and use these tables for normal work on Mac OS?
and SSDT need to be used with new 6000x cards?
or just to change power limit on Windows?
I think this topic is very interesting, will the program work with navi10 gpu?
since I've been trying to solve a problem with my radeon pro W5700 card for a year and a half now.
none of the automatic programs, neither gfxutil nor opencore legacy patcher (it gives report about error in GPU address), detects the correct bridge on my video card.
Therefore, I have an unknown usb controller without a driver installed in system properties at one of the addresses belonging to the video card
i think, I need special SSDT for radeonPro W5700

You need an SSDT to replace the default bridge names with a new bridge device for early Device property injection. All other properties need testing.

I patched my RX 6600 XT a few days ago with Syncretics patcher (HUGE THANK YOU FOR THAT!!) and everything works perfectly in my cMP4 (Patched to 5) running mac OS 12.3.1 but 1 thing. My monitor settings keep resetting after restart and I have to switch the main screen (changing DP cables doesn't work), switching sides from left to right and switching variable frame rate 40-60 to 60. Anyone knows how to fix it and help my old lady remember the settings?

Big thanks to all of you and I wish you a great start to the new week!

Curious -- which version of macOS are you running?
