For people that want a quick fix here it is:
Bash:
sudo nano /etc/hosts

Add this to the end of the file:

127.0.0.1 ocsp.apple.com

That will block the faulty server and make your Mac as fast as before.
Thank you!
This solved my slow Mac but it still can not upgrade, will I be able to upgrade having that line in /etc/hosts ?

This is the first time I've ever experienced such a problem when upgrading to a new version of the Mac OS. What a debacle. I hope Apple can get this fixed very quickly. In the meantime, I'm giving up for now and trying again tomorrow.

That did not fix the issue for me, unfortunately. It still gives the error when I try to upgrade.

This pretty much sums it up for Apple....PHENOMINAL COSMIC POWER.....but........errors out. OMG, when do you think Apple will get it together? Ever? I dread the M1 release as I know its going to mess people up and I am going to have to support it. WTG Apple.....I feel like I have been saying this about almost ALL apple products lately. If Mr. Jobs was still alive, he would FIRE every single person in there.

In the time I just read through this and posted. I just downloaded and install COD Cold war (91GB)....maybe Apple should hire people from Activision as they seem to have it together haha.

I had just installed a new Epson printer and their driver suite and suddenly the iMac began to become unresponsive. Naturally, I thought it was the drivers. Reboot did nothing and removing the drivers did not help. Finally started the search for an answer and instantly found the news about the Apple infrastructure collapsing.
Interestingly, even though everyone seems to be dying on downloading Big Sur, at the same time I dl'ed a security update (1.2 gb) for Mojave. Got it with no problem in about three minutes. Go figure.

And after that ... Error

But in reality it seems that nothing have been downloaded at all, in parallel checked network activity, no activity at all, only fake download progress.

It really is a reality check on this world when you think about that oversized spaceship campus and all the "brightest minds" working there, and then consider the amount of human hours across the globe that are being wasted on this error message right now.

You know, I wonder if it is entropy in action. Out of all the years of updates, and testing betas, I must say the beta for this was by far the most stable beta I've used in the bunch. I guess because of that, the official updating must tend to disorder. Ebb and flow, I suppose? :)

I've still got it...all the issues are fixed now except the Software Update "Issue". Sorry...replied to the wrong post.
