I wonder if Apple will hold another event to apologize for the “Next Big Thing” Big Sur:eek: I hate to be snarky but I feel bad about alerting my friends and family to the update. Mine went fine for some reason. But now many of my friends are having issues well documented in these threads. I cannot remember ever seeing this kind of failure on the part of Apple.

I was on the fence about upgrading to Big Sur so early in the release cycle. The quality of the release itself has given me my answer. RUN AWAY!!!! 🥵 ABORT!!!!

Yeah couple hours ago I was able to at least download almost all of it, now its an instant failure the minute you tell it you want to download the file. Funny, the App Store just updated my Logic Pro just fine.. We'll see when the pkg above is finished downloading (all 12GB of it).

What is the source for this file? Seems someone else tried this and it too didn't work?
I guess it is a mirror from the swcdn.apple.com software catalogue. I you use apps like Munki or other scripts for enterprise deployment you get those.

When you double click the .pkg file, it creates the Big Sur installer app in the Applications folder btw.

There's a link above with a mirror to the Big Sur installation package. I would not download it!

It is not from one of Apple's CDN servers, as someone posted above. It is from a person who downloaded the package from Apple, and then reuploaded it to a server of the company that they work for (Scaleway).

I asked Steve Troughton-Smith if I should trust it. His reply: "I wouldn't"

An example official Apple link to the download (which does not work right now, because you cannot download an official Big Sur download at the moment) is:

The original source of the mirrored URL is this tweet:

Status on apple is green for everything for me and still getting error. I believe I was able to download the file but when I went to install it gave me the error. Is this the same for everyone? when I klick on install it now errors every time. I keep seeing the little res bubble on my "System Preferences" Icon now. Is the file corrupt? I hope it is not stuck. Wish I could delete the "Big Sur" install and start over when they resolve issue.

What is the solution for people who have downloaded but get error message when they try to install? Delete the Downloaded file (how)? Be patient?......Anything else?

In the same boat — download succeeded, install fails. Is there a way to purge the downloaded file that is apparently corrupt?
