I booted into internet recovery and wiped my drive, but now it’s only giving me the option to reinstall Catalina. How do I make recovery figure out that Big Sur is available??

I believe you will need to install Catalina and then update to Big Sur from inside the Catalina install. The upgrade to Big Sur will also upgrade the recovery partition.

I get to 3.08 GB downloaded and then it freezes/errors out still.

Edit: after a few tries it starts to continue after freezing at 3.08.

Hey now is working for me at lightning speed, fingers crossed it won't stop again at 11.8gb. I'm in California btw.

So that open $TMPDIR../C/com.apple.appstore/ command worked for me too. But now it's stuck at downloading at 12.18 GB! should I wait? Thanks!

There's a link above with a mirror to the Big Sur installation package. I would not download it!

It is not from one of Apple's CDN servers, as someone posted above. It is from a person who downloaded the package from Apple, and then reuploaded it to a server of the company that they work for (Scaleway).

I asked Steve Troughton-Smith if I should trust it. His reply: "I wouldn't"

An example official Apple link to the download (which does not work right now, because you cannot download an official Big Sur download at the moment) is:

The original source of the mirrored URL is this tweet:

For what it's worth they appear to be the same file. I downloaded the one from twitter and the official one via the App Store and they both get the same SHA256.

Having said that, it's always best to stick to the official sources.

SHA256(Install macOS Big Sur.app/Contents/SharedSupport/SharedSupport.dmg)= ae026c7cc877689749f4ed9b516f77db2248b81888ca862bf9031105f2bc813d

OK that was strange, now it is working and downloading. Hopefully no error messages this time.
I kept getting fail message then a Safari 14.01 update popped up. I installed it and wham Big Sur download started. Not doing the happy dance yet...

Mine is currently stuck on this screen for 15 minutes now. Is anyone else having this problem?
